What is true repentance?

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life".

Ezekiel 18:30
"Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin".

So we have belief and repentance. How does a person tie these two together in a right standing before God?

Godly sorrow ===== 2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Psalm 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

repent means to turn from at time we have all failed in true repentance.. when we are truly sorry and broken then God can do his work.

a story i have heard about how they allegedly catch monkeys in Africa. the cut the top of the cocoanut off clean it out put a hole in the side of it fill it with rice. the monkey will reach in the hole grab the rice . when he makes the fist from grabbing the rice. his hand no longer fits back through the hole.. being stubborn/greedy he will not let go. sometimes that is how we are in repentance we want to let go but cant let go of it. thus we keep carrying it around..

How does a person tie these two together in a right standing before God?

actually they call it Grace . we have repent and turn from ? where does the alcoholic who got saved ..but still struggles with the addiction ?

one must never give up on any thing

The Greek word for "believe," carries the meaning of "committing to" something.
Repentance means to "change direction," or "change thinking," (Hebrew and Greek, respectively)

Our hearts and minds must be focused on the "things above," not on the "things of earth."

God knows our heart... We each need to ask Him to reveal our heart, to show us where we need to change.
