What Makes You Pray?

Hello Via;

That is a great question. When I ask God my questions to understand better His plan for me, bring resolve to a problem, or a desire, I ask an even bigger question, What do you say, Lord?

What do you mean by, Values?

God bless you, sister.

When I first began praying I would ask for things. For example, "please bless my family",
i still do that along with the ministry the church i pastor. in fact here lately i been praying that i do it many times through out the day. when it comes to praying for individuals headed towards a dead end road . with no place to turn around. most the time it increases . i dont think there is any one certain way to pray. there is p.u.s.h pray until something happens .

no it does not hurt to tell the Lord you dont understand i am praying for a person who is smart but is being deceived money wise. its like she just dont care.. but you know we all was this way before salvation . sometimes it take dynamite to move that mountain. sometimes it take a hard fall to get people to see. mine was trip to federal court and 2 years later . a buddy mine prayed for his brother to get saved. he did get saved after he found out he had brain cancer....

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room
filled with light and God appeared. The Lord told the man He
had work for him to do and showed him a large rock in front of
his cabin.

The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock
with all his might. So, this the man did, day after day.
For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders
set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving
rock, pushing with all of his might.

Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out,
feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan),
decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the weary
mind:

"You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it
hasn't moved."

Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was
impossible and that he was a failure. These thoughts
discouraged and disheartened the man.

Satan said, "Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your
time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good
enough. That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to
make it a matter of prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to
the Lord.

“Lord,” he said, "I have labored long and hard in your service,
putting all my strength to do that which you have asked.
Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by
half a millimeter.

What is wrong?

Why am I failing?”

The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you
to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to
push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have
done.

Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it.

Your task was to push.

And now you come to Me with your strength spent,
thinking that you have failed.

Is that really so?

Look at yourself.

Your arms are strong and muscled,
your back sinewy and brown;
your hands are callused from constant pressure,
your legs have become massive and hard.
Through opposition you have grown much,
and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have.

True, you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be
obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My
wisdom. That you have done.

Now I, my friend, will move the rock."

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own
intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God
wants is just a simple obedience and faith in Him.

By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains,
but know that it is still God who moves mountains.

When everything seems to go wrong...just

P.U.S.H.!

When the job gets you down... just P.U.S.H.!

When people don't react the way you think
they should... just P.U.S.H.

When your money is "gone" and the bills are due... just P.U.S.H!

When people just don't understand you... just P.U.S.H.

Good morning, forgiven;

My wife and I call what you posted a nice Daily Bread. I will share the acronym PUSH when I meet with my nephews and nieces this Thanksgiving.

They're aged from 17, 20, 24 and 28. They all attended our Church when they were kids. As young adults, college graduates, college attending and college bound, they behave like they've got all the answers in life better than any elder.

It's something else when a young'n hasn't developed hard knock experience but act as if they've been around the block. This makes an elderly like myself shake my head, but in love.

In the meantime I thank the Lord every day for their faith, they're safe, respectful in the home toward their parents, and their needs are met by the Lord.

As an uncle and aunt, they give me the impression of pushing a rock, so what do I do? PUSH

God bless you, Jerry, and thank you for sharing.

Bob

I think college (or university) encourages students to ask questions when they aren't being lectured.

On topic, asking God about things is something children do naturally. They are curious about how things work. For example, many don't know where babies come from and when they find out (naturally) they can be shocked and horrified lol. Parents don't always tell them stuff so they ask God about it.

Children have an innate experience of God and understand there is someone much bigger than them who is in charge. Not every child looks to their parents and asks them things, because a lot of parents just do not know the answer, or they get fobbed off.

I think a lot of prayers ask God WHY rather than for things. We know God isn't Santa and that praying isn't the same as wishing for things. Miracles take a lot of time and doing and they aren't always for just yourself.

Making a request or petitioning God is something that, like in the natural world, you have to spend a lot of time on. I think how, when people ask things of the Govt, knowing they get many many requests and yours is just one in a pile of millions you can't have a hope it will be addressed unless you continually lobby, get a group together, or take drastic action like march or protest!

If you have God's ear, you may ask and it will be given, but many people neglect the thanksgiving part because they don't spend time worshipping Him. So God doesn't know you that well, but you still ask Him for things? People that don't know His son, also try to ask God for things that He won't do because its not in His will. You need to know Jesus before going to God the Father.
