What would you recommend for a Beginning Christian study library then?

As I usually instruct those recently saved to further help their bible studies a few essential tools, such as a good bible dictionary, concordance, abd a good study bible, and really like the Thompson Chain bible, as that forces them into the bible text itself thru the chains and not reading study notes

Good morning, YeshuaFan;

This is another good reference Bible with in-depth daily application learning and a good source for sermon preparation.

Thompson allows the serious student to go beyond study notes and commentaries. Personally, commentaries are not automatic so I don't always agree with them. But I know it helps the next brother or sister as they're growing students of God's Word.

God bless you, YeshuaFan.

Bob

In addition to what you've mentioned, I recommend How to Study Your Bible by Kay Arthur.

On the defense of the faith I HIGHLY recommend Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics by William Lane Craig. In my opinion there is nothing better. Dr. Craig is the standard.

For beginners, just read the Bible. Find a modern translation so you're not hung up on language and simply read. Read it slowly. Pay attention. Be rigorous, take your time and enjoy it.

After you've done this, then read whatever explanatory texts you like. By doing it this way, you form your own opinions first. That's important, otherwise you end up with someone else's opinions.
