When does the Biblical month begin?

According to these verses it starts with the sighting of the new moon:

1 Samuel 20:18 + 24-27
18 Then Jonathan said to David, “ Tomorrow is the New Moon feast [Day1]. You will be missed, because your seat will be empty.

24 So David hid in the field, and when the New Moon feast came [Day1], the king sat down to eat. 25 He sat in his customary place by the wall, opposite Jonathan, and Abner sat next to Saul, but David’s place was empty. 26 Saul said nothing that day, for he thought, “Something must have happened to David to make him ceremonially unclean,20 surely he is unclean.” 27 But the next day, the second day of the month, [Day2] David’s place was empty again. Then Saul said to his son Jonathan, “Why hasn’t the son of Jesse come to the meal, either yesterday or today?”

This had to be the visible new moon which can be seen by the naked eye when there is just enough light on the moon to be seen as the first crescent of the waxing moon. It could not be the astronomical new moon as this cannot be seen by the naked eye.

However, the modern Jewish calendar sometimes has the month beginning on the astronomical new moon, such as today, the 16th of February, as can be seen in this link: Hebrew Date Converter - 1st of Adar, 5778 | Hebcal Jewish Calendar

But as you can see in this link the astronomical new moon on the 16th of February:

The reason why this is so is because the modern Jewish calendar was invented by Jewish Rabbi Hillel II in 359 AD and he used the 19 year repeating lunar cycle known as the Metonic cycle, (named after the Greek astronomer Meton of Athens) to approximate when the observable new moon is but it is only correct about half the time.

This proves that the modern Jewish calendar is man made and was only designed to replicate God's original Calendar that He gave to Moses and which Jesus also used. The reason why this is important is because all of the feasts Jesus fulfilled were calculated using God's original Calendar, such as:

Passover = Easter
Shavuot = Pentecost
Tabernacles = Harvest Festival

These were the three most important feast in the year:

Deuteronomy 16:16
Three times a year all your men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose:

1. Passover = Easter - FULFILLED BY JESUS
2. Shavuot = Pentecost - FULFILLED BY JESUS
3. Tabernacles = Harvest festival -YET TO BE FULFILLED ?
 
I woul say tabernacles has been fulfilled by Jesus as there is lots of mention in the NT that He is the firstfruits. (Along with the apostles)

While the calendar has been messed with, events on specific dates to the Jewish people, 9 Av for example, in modern times shows that God is still in control.

This is a list of secular events that happened on the 9th day of the Jewish month of Av to the Jews. All these are verifiable in thehistory books.
  • The Jewish Commentary, the Mishna, records that the people believed the evil report of the spies and mourned all night infear. They turned against Moses and the two faithful spies, Joshua and Caleb (the only two from Egypt that entered thePromised Land). (Ta'anit 29a says it happened on the 9 of Av, Numbers 14:1-10 just records the curse from the Lord and therevolt against Moses and not the date.) This event started their 40-year wandering in the desert.
  • Destruction of the first temple, 29 July 587 BC (9 Av 3174), actually from seventh of Av to tenth because the fire continued.
  • Destruction of the second temple, 4 Aug 70 AD (9 Av 3830), 60 exactly 656 years to the day since the destruction of the first
    temple.
  • The Roman army plowed Jerusalem with salt in 25 July 71 AD (9 Av 3831)73
  • The destruction of Simeon Bar Kochba's army in 5 Aug 135 AD (9 Av 3895) 74
  • The First Crusade, declared by Pope Urban II, began when his preaching throughout France, in July 1095 (Av 4855), stirred
    up the populace.75 This ignited violence against the Jews and some have deemed this as the first holocaust.76 Though thisevil occurred, the number of Jews killed before the Crusades reaches Jerusalem are not recorded, but accounts added upcan lead one to believe that the number could reach five to ten thousand.77
  • Edward I of England expelled all of the Jews in 18 July 1290 AD (9 Av 5050)78
    “Pressured by his barons, the Church and possibly his mother, he announced the expulsion of all the Jews. ByNovember 1, approximately 4,000 had fled, mostly to France. The Jews had to pay their own passage. They wereallowed to take movables (i.e. clothing). A number of Jews were robbed and cast overboard during the voyage bythe ship captains. The Jews did not return to England until 165979. This was the first national expulsion of the Jews.(England was one of the only centralized and national monarchies of that time.)”80

    • 10 Av 5066 “1306 July 22, PHILIP THE FAIR (France) Expelled the Jews from his lands after arresting all of them (on the dayafter the 9th of Av) and confiscating their property. Most Jews went to the next Duchy. Gradually, they were allowed todrift back.”81
    • Spain, by the Alhambra Decree82, expelled all of the Jews by 31 July 1492. On the 1 August 1492 AD, the day before 9th ofAv (9 Av 5252), the Jews who didn’t leave were being round up and forced into Catholicism.
    • World War I is declared on the ninth of Av, 1 August 1914 (9 Av 5674)
    • Russia mobilized for World War I and launched persecutions against the Jews in Eastern Russia three days before 9 Av 5674.
      Of the population, 13% were Jewish and considered traitors and spies and were taken hostage in order to prevent spying.
      Finally, in 1915 they were forced to leave Galicia, Austria, and banned Yiddish.102
    • On 22 July 1942, the Germans began a systematic liquidation of the Ghetto, deporting Jews to extermination camps at the
      rate of six to ten thousand per day. Deportation started on 8 Av. Over 64,000 Jews were transported to Treblinka in July.109By autumn there were only 40,000 Jews left in Warsaw. Just to top it off, 500 mental patients were killed on this day inKobierzyn (Poland).110
    • Warsaw Ghetto Cleansed - 9 Av 5703. By early 1943, the Jews refused to cooperate with the Germans and the WarsawGhetto Uprising began. Renewed attempts to start deportations were answered with reprisals.111
    • From July 16 (8 Av 5754) through July 22, 1994, pieces of an object designated as Comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided withJupiter. This is the first collision of two solar system bodies ever to be observed, and the effects of the comet impacts onJupiter's atmosphere have been simply spectacular and beyond expectations. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 consisted of at least21 discernable fragments with diameters estimated at up to two kilometers. (9 Av 5754) 190 Signs in the heavens.
      Two events on a given day is 1 in 365 days. 3 events on the same day is 1 X 365 X 365 = 133,225
      Hence, the odds on these fourteen events happening to the same people, the same country, over the centuries on the same day is 1chance in 15.318 billion times a billion times a billion or:
      15,318,685,820,000,000,000,000,000,000!!!!!
      (365 raised to the 11th power = 1.53186582 x 10 to the 28th power.)
      A 1 in 20 is a notable event!!!!


 
What about Jesus birth, crucifixtion and resurrection is that recorded in your book too Abdicate? What date was that.

Jesus actually alluded to the fact that He would fulfil Tabernacles at a later time:

John 7:2 & 8 – But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, [Jesus said] “You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”

Jesus then purposefully misses the feast of Tabernacles which is on day 15 of month 7. However, Jesus does turn up a few days in the middle of this 8 day feast, after having deliberately missed this specific day:

John 7:10 & 14 – But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then Jesus also went up, not publicly but in secret. About halfway through the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching.

What Jesus says and does here clearly shows that He left it YET to be fulfilled.

P.S. First Fruits is actually another holy day entirely held on day 16 month 1:

Offering the Firstfruits
9The Lord said to Moses, 10“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11He is to wave the sheaf before the Lord so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12On the day you wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the Lord a lamb a year old without defect, 13together with its grain offering of two-tenths of an ephaha of the finest flour mixed with olive oil—a food offering presented to the Lord, a pleasing aroma—and its drink offering of a quarter of a hinb of wine. 14You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.

This was fulfilled by Jesus as this was the day He resurrected. And yes He was the First Fruits of the Harvest of Souls of Mankind:

1 Corinthians 15:20-28
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
