Which Gospel... ?

Hello LearningToLetGo;

You ask a great question for discussion.

For years mine was the synoptic Gospels Matthew, Mark and Luke. The synoptic being the interrelationship and general historical structure between these three. At the same time there was literary dependence from Matthew, Mark and Luke.

Matthew wrote to the Jews and was 42% unique writing. Mark wrote to the Romans which was 7% unique and Luke wrote to the Greeks which was 59% unique. (The unique material will differ between the scholars and theologians.)

Later the gospel of John came out 60-70 years later. John spoke to the Church and his material was 92% unique because he spent so much time witnessing and bonding with Jesus. This remains my favorite gospel study today.

God bless you, Jason.

Luke is my favorite for a few reasons: he wrote about Jesus' youth and family; he focused on explaining the Jewish theology to the Gentiles in an open and approachable way; and his writing style is overall more scholarly and polished.

John all the way! John reveals the 'behind the scenes' Jesus. John 1:1-4 kicks it off, and it is all uphill from there.

Jhn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jhn 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Jhn 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Jhn 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
