Why is it important to believe Jesus is coming back again physically?

If you have lived as long as I have and have been in as many church meetings and prayer services and testimonials as I have you no doubt have heard people claim that they saw Jesus in person, or that He came and was present in their worship service. Some have even said that He drove their car through heavy traffic as they closed their eyes.

All of that sounds good and most people present shout Amen and Glory to God! Is that the way it happened and is that Biblical? Is it even important to speak of such things and should it just be left alone because the people who say that are sincere?

If anyone claims he has shown up in their home or at their meeting they are denying that He will appear in glory, the same way and in the same place that he left- As He Promised I Acts 1:11.

Acts 1:11..........
“Men of Galilee, they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

If Jesus does not come back the way He promised in Scripture then we cannot trust the Scripture on what it says about anything about Him.

Your thoughts are...............

Matthew 18:20 (KJV)
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Colossians 1:17 (ESV)
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

I bring up these two verses for a reason, they're spiritual, not physical. But then what is physical seeing how all we see and experience is actually shadows. The real is actually spiritual. Scientists do not know what keeps the atoms intact. The speed at which the electrons spin should make them fly off because the gravitation forces are not strong enough. In the end, they do not know what holds them together. It's Jesus, for by Him and in Him was everything made that was made.

So does Jesus appear to people? Yep. Will He return physically? Yep. We have to keep all verses intact too.

Dear brother I would encourage you to read Revelation chapter 1. Allow me to quote some verses:

13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Here Jesus reveals Himself to the apostle John and if Jesus can appear to John after His ascension to Heaven, then He can most certainly reveal Himself to people today, no? Whether or not He drove someone's car while their eyes were closed I cannot say for certain, but I do believe He appears to those who need to see Him.

I hope that you are right. But Then how do you explain this verse?

Luke 22:69.........
"Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God”.

After Jesus was raised from the dead, He continued to teach His disciples and prepare them for the work they would carry out after He was gone. The account in Mark records that after fulfilling His task, Christ received a glorified body and ascended into heaven:..........

Mark 16:19....
“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God”.

If the Scriptures tell us that He was received up into heaven and from that point on He will sit on the right hand of God the Father, how do we then accept the idea that He also comes and goes as He wishes? Does He somehow take off the glorified body and then put it back on?

Is there a Bible verse that validates the thought that Jesus appears to us in physical form today?????

And yes, He is God and God can do anything He wants to. I got that. But Biblically and logically is it sound to say He visits people today?

Sounds wonderful.

If He does appear physically to people today, does that idea conflict with Acts 10:34-35............
“Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him”.

If He appears to you and not to me, isn't that then God showing partiality which is exactly in disagreement to Acts 10:34?

Then of course the question then must be.......How would anyone know that it was Jesus Christ?????

No one know what He looks like. There are No pictures and No paintings and no descriptions. Wouldn't that play right into the hands of the devil?????

2 Corth. 11:14..........
"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light."

Hmmm could this also include.....if some folks seem to be more blessed then others or seem to have God moving in and through them more then others. .....

How does that fit in?

Well if you could not Sense or Grasp it was the Lord - then He did not want you to know at that time.

Yes but for the Believer who is Spirit lead (Holy Spirit) and is constantly in the Word of God they will know truth from it all and recognize the devil.

My thought would be that the person in question would be more obedient than the other hence the blessings of God. I do not see how the "seeing" of Jesus physically would fit in.

As for not sensing or grasping, and the Lord not wanting us to know............
If we followed that rabbit down the hole wouldn't we eventually be able to say that Satan has been fooling people since creation?
Over 6000 years of humanity, how many well meaning, wonderful Christians have been fooled by the devil. Were all of them not Spirit filled ??????

I hear what you are saying Jim, and I love you brother, but honestly do you really think that you can recognize the traps of Satan.

If a spirit filled Christian can identify the devil and his temptation, then why did Peter write 1 Pet. 5:8 to Christians..........
" Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
"

All of these verses are spoken to Christians as warnings about Satan..............

Rom. 8:13
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
Rom. 13:14
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
Gal. 5:13
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.
Rom. 11:22
Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
2 Pet. 2:20
If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
Rev. 2:7
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

2 Cor 2:10-11
To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

To me, the Scriptures are saying that Satan can "get an advantage" over a believer. 2 Corth. 2:10-11 was made to believers, not non-believers.

Now I totally agree with you and we should always be alert, and IMO we probably can and do identify some of the traps laid for us by Satan. But ALL of them, every day all of the time?????

Key here Major is Looking.........why is he looking? Because he needs help, permission or a door to get into a believers life.

A believer must understand how the enemy works and must understand how to hear and be lead by God. One must know God's ways.

We are told to cast down thoughts that don't line up with God's words.
If one does not know the Father's voice in His word or His ways then one simply will not be able to see, understand and cast down those tricky thoughts the enemy brings.

he is crafty and tricky and slicker then slick and Yea he will use scriptures too and twist them just enough.

Our enemy is not some big red thing with horns like Hollywood portrays him.

Your quote says be alert.....alert to what?
Be self controlled. ....over what?

I would enjoy a thread on this

Here is an example.
Our enemy lays a trap, been setting this up for years. ....

The day has arived........you get ready to head out in your truck, the Lord quickens you to not go. You ignore it from either not believing it was God or you never hear it because you have not learned to be Spirit lead.

You go and just as you get to the big intersection. ......a drunk driving 90 miles an hour runs the red light and plows right into you.

Do you really think that was bad luck or just a coincidence that the guy was drinking since early that day and went through that lite by chance just as you a Christian was there?

Nope.....you were set up and did not heed the warning..

True story......
A lady calls in to the Prayer team. All shook up and crying and such. She was just mugged.

Now once the prayer partner could understand her she began to explain.
The Prayer partner began crying out to God saying his heart was out for her but did not know what to say.

So he felt lead to ask her again what happened. See she was more mad because God did not protect her then she was about getting mugged.

Any way she went on telling how it was a bad area of town and the prayer partner asked so you felt lead to go there and she says no I had a check about going and she continues on telling how it was a really bad place in town and she got mugged.

So he asked her again ....so you felt lead by God to go there? She said no she had a check about not going and knew she should not go........she said but I prayed Psalm 91 over me and went and how could God allow this to happen to me.

Lol Psalm 91 was working here.
She ignored the check or warning or something not right in her spirit and foolishly prayed a prayer and did her own thing.

She stepped out of God's protection and over to a place the devil had right.

What I am saying is.........we are to live victorious or from victory to victory....
You can't do that if you don't learn how to recognize the wiles of the devil.

No where in the N.T are we warned about the devils power......no but his trickery because he is a persistent cuss.

Again this would make a great thread.
Could even use my hot spot capability and get the tablet out and key boards.

Never... He appreared to Jacob, Abraham, Isaac before He was even born, why stop after He returned to the Father? Spiritually, Jesus is everything and is everywhere at all times. Physically, He's in heaven unconstrained like His physical time on earth. In fact, it is my most firm belief, that if anything happened to any person in history, it can happen again, and more.

Absolulty correct in everything you said and I agree completely. But Those Christophanies were done before Christ had been glorified.
When He was glorified there was then something in heaven that had never been there before.....a "Glorified Man-God".

It seems to me that Luke 22:69 says something else...........
"But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”

There is no indication that Christ will come and go to the earth as He chooses after He was glorified, just the opposite. The Scriptures say to me that He will be seated at the right hand of the Father.

Matt. 24:30 then says this..........
"Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory."

Does that suggest that when Jesus does come, everyone will see Him and when they do they will actually see the glory of His position as Christ?

Stephen then confirms the words of Jesus as he said in Acts 7:56..........
"Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"

I know that people want to see Jesus. I want to see Jesus. but to me, the thought of Him showing up to talk with people is inconsistent with what the Scriptures say what He is doing today. And then there is the fact that Jesus said that He would send the "Comforter" to us as He had to go to the Father.

IMO there is no such thing as luck!! All life is subject to the omniscience and providential care of God through the work of the Holy Spirit of God..

Here in another true story for you. IN 1969 while in battle in Vietnam, a mortar exploded right in front of me. It killed the man on my right and the man on my left and took the legs of the man in front of me. However I did not get a scratch. Luck........NO! That is the providential care of God.

How many times have we all been leaving to go somewhere and the wife remembers she forgot her makeup. We wait for her for the 2 or 3 minutes it takes her to go back into the house and then down the road we come upon a wreck that would have been exactly the time we would have been there had we not waited on the wife. Luck?.........NO!

IMO that is the work of the Holy Spirit as He is protecting us.

But personally I do not see how that can be related to the traps that Satan lays for us. Yes we at times identify a place that we should not be in or that we are talking to someone we should not be around but to say that we can do it 100% of the time is hard for me to accept.

Satan has been doing his work since the creation of man and I for one do not want anything to do with him. He knows our weaknesses and can affect us when we are the weakest.

Rev. 12:9.........
"So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him".

Read that carefully. Satan, the devil, deceives the whole world! That means the people of every nation. I think that those words are very clear and they mean you and me.
At times I have been deceived. At times You have been deceived. But, thankfully, God calls us out of this world's deception, through the true Jesus Christ of the Bible!

Believe me, I know what you are saying. It is all good stuff.

However, you also must know that there is no biblical proof that Satan always needs specific permission in order to act against Christians every time he wishes to attack them.

Does Satan have to seek such permission every time he attacks us? The Bible does not say.

As the devil “prowls around like a roaring lion” (1 Peter 5:8), must he stop and ask God’s permission for every step? Or does he only need to ask special permission when he runs into an obstacle to his hatred? There is no real biblical proof either way. Job and Peter were hedged about by the Lord—Satan couldn’t get to them without the Lord’s first removing a measure of His protection. We know that God cares for all of His children, so it is reasonable to assume that God has a measure of protection surrounding each of us. And we know that, ultimately, God controls everything in the universe, including Satan. “In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

The New Testament is full of scripture explaining this.

First don't confuse the devil before the Cross with the devil after the cross.

Yes same devil But after the cross he is a defeated devil which can not simply kill a Christian any time he wishes. If he could he would have taken us out already.

Major no disrespect at all sir, but that is not even right. So if God controls the devil it was kind of lame for Jesus to commission us to cast out the devil and lay hands on the sick and so forth, I mean after all, God controls the devil.

If God was in total control here in this earth at this time then again Jesus teaching how to pray is very lame.

If God is in control......why pray that His Will be done on earth as it Is In Heaven?
Why pray That His Kingdom be Established here On Earth As It Is In Heaven if He was in Control of everything going on in this earth.......

That is your opinion and I am Sorry then Jim, we will have to be in disagreement.

God is in control of all things my dear friend. The concept of the control of God over everything is called the “sovereignty” of God. Nothing gives us strength and confidence like an understanding of the sovereignty of God in our lives. God’s sovereignty is defined as His complete and total independent control over every creature, event, and circumstance at every moment in history. Subject to none, influenced by none, absolutely independent, God does what He pleases, only as He pleases, always as He pleases. God is in complete control of every molecule in the universe at every moment, and everything that happens is either caused or allowed by Him for His own perfect purposes.

Isaiah 14:24 tells us exactly that...........
"The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, ‘Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand’”.

God isn’t finding out what’s going to happen as events unfold. He is continuously, actively running things—ALL things—here and now. But to think He needs our cooperation, our help, or the exercise of our free will to bring His plans to pass puts us in control over Him, which makes us God. Where have we heard that lie before? It’s a rehash of Satan’s same old lie from the Garden—you shall be like God.

Our wills are only free to the extent that God allows us that freedom and no farther.

Daniel 4:35.............
“All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?’”.

Think about this...........Jesus was “delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God” as recorded in Acts 2:23..

That means Jim that no action by the Romans, the Pharisees, Judas, or anyone else could keep God’s plan from unfolding exactly the way He purposed it from before the foundation of the world. WHY????? Because God is in controle!!!!!!

Ephesians 1 says we were chosen in Him before the world was even created. We were in the mind of God to be saved by faith in Christ. That means God knit together Satan’s rebellion, Adam and Eve’s sin, the fall of the human race, and the death and crucifixion of Christ—all seemingly terrible events—to save us before He created us.
Here is a perfect example of God working all things together for good just as Romans 8:28 tells us.

Howdy Major,
The only reason I suggested a new thread was I did not want to keep taking Your thread in another direction. I think we even have a rule about that!

Now then Sir I do understand what you are trying to show with this statement that I quoted of yours.

Now then Sir let's talk about that for a moment.

Yes sir I agree that this was A Plan of God from the start. Key words here would be Plan, Desire, Will and so forth.

Out of His love for His creation, He On Purpose devised a plan that would bring us back to Him. That Plan was Jesus.

Of course nothing could stop this.
We must also Remember this was before the Cross and before satans defeat by The understood Subject of God's Plan Jesus our Christ.

However my friend, this says nothing of God being in control of Everything that happens or is done in this earth.

It does however give us His creation a way out of this cursed world. It offers us a new hope and future with Him.

It offers a way to escape and be free from the control of this world system or ways which by the way is Governed by our enemy the devil.

Blessings
