Does the bible talk about not receiving assistance?

Does the bible talk about not receiving assistance?

I remember reading a paragraph a couple of months ago. I hope I'm not imagining this. The paragraph advices to not receive outside assistance, but to work with our own hands.

1Th 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

When I read the question in the original post, I was also thinking of the scripture in 2 Thessalonians 3....

verses 6-15 (note the similarity between verse 12 and the verse posted by Who Am I)

6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:

9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

God always teaches us to be an example to others as the Scriptures show above. But, we are not to be involved with those who say are God's True Chidren yet do not the work of God.

Its not that we can't associate with them, just not be involved with them as they live. For there are Scriptures as well, where we are to seperate those from us doing unGodly practices.

God teaches us as well that if asked for our coat, to give them our cloak as well. If asked to go a mile with someone, to go two miles with them. Yet, at the same time, God teaches us to not cast perals before swine.

In other words, be willing to go further to help another, yet having the Godly common sense not to let ourselves be used by those who abuse the kindness or love shown them.

There will be times each of God's Children will need help. But, it needs to be understood when or if it becomes abuse and we should end the situation.

Jesus told the Parable of the "Samaritan". A pagan person as considered in thier time, who stopped and helped a Child of God who had been beaten and robbed. And went well over what he needed to, to ensure the Child of God healed and was fine again.

So, what God is saying, is to accept the help that is good, just, loving, kind, of virtue and more, that does not lea them to go against God in the recieving of help.

It's ok to recieve help when you need it. It's not ok to accept help when you don't need it expecially when you are taking resources meant for those who are in need.

Work for a living and support those whom you are responsible for and if doing that work doesn't provide enough to support them then it's ok to accept a degree of assistance because you are honestly working.

Remember, we have to be honest with ourselves because God knows our hearts and He knows what we need before we even know.

It's Need not Greed.

In my situation I cannot afford health benifits for my whole family because I don't make enough to pay for the insurance and all of my bills at the same time. Am I wrong for being on Healthy Families for my children? No, I am being responsible and accepting that health insurance for my children because I persoannly cannot afford it. I work 40+ hours a week and my wife does too, we want to save up and buy a house but with the current state of the ecconomy it's not looking like we will be able to for quite some time.

I know what your saying. We need to work, and if its not enough money then its ok to get help with money if it's being available to us. But what about when not working, can someone still receive help thats available?

Yes, becuase every person has times of need. We just need to make sure we are obeying the spirit and seeking the Lord during these times. He will provide through His own way which includes assistance from outside sources. We need to be honest with our dealings concerning work and recieving assistance. A lot of people make a lot more money than they claim on their tax forms and accept state funds and federal housing allotments because they can... not because they actually need it.

It's much like the goverment these days. Spending way more than they have on things that don't matter and then taxing us for more so they can spend more on what we don't need. IMO we need to realize where our tax dollars are going and what our governemnt is spending all of that money on. I pay taxes because its the law, but the law makers are abusing my tax dollars by funding their own lifestyles and agendas. This is the same with our own lifes and spending habbits. If you spend 200 dollars on entertainment, 1,000 dollars on your brand new cars, and you are on welfare does that make much sense? Trim the fat because it's going to eventually kill your lifestyle.

I like Kris needed to recieve help with health insurance because I couldn't pay for it myself. And there was a time when I was unable to work and needed the help. Though its hard to say about someone who refuses to work; you know someone who knows there are jobs they are qualified for and can get, but don't attempt to apply.

What about those who are not physically or mentally able to work?

God teaches us in His Word back in Leviticus and Deut., the system of tithing of all people to Tribal Leaders, who then gave the tithes to the Priests, for seeing that help, whatever the type, was gotten to those in need.

thus, even tho who were disabled in whatever way and unable to work, were taken care of along with the others, such as sick, widowed and more.

And that is still the basic way we are to opearte as a "Body" today.

God Bless!!
