Contradictions here?

I was watching a program called a new look at exodus. I think that's what it was called.

And they pointed out a few things in the bible like it says Noah sent out a dove, but then in the next paragraph or page or something it changes saying he sent a raven or something? It also said that the bible says the flood was for 40 days and 40 nights, but then says it was 150 days? Or did it rain 40 days 40 nights, and they were in the ark for 150 days?

Lazy me hasn't even checked, but are these contradictions there? Perhaps it was in the original scripts?

From Wikipedia- this is my feeling lazy method of reply:p:

At the end of 150 days the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. For 150 days again the waters receded, and the hilltops[not hilltops this should be mountains according to many Bible translations] emerged. Noah sent out a raven which "went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth". Next, Noah sent a dove out, but it returned having found nowhere to land. After a further seven days, Noah again sent out the dove, and it returned with an olive leaf in its beak, and he knew that the waters had subsided.

So it rained 40 days and nights but took 150 for the waters to recede enough that the Ark could come to rest.
Noah sent our a Raven and then a dove in separate events.

Noah and his family were actually in the ark for over a year.
They entered the ark 7 days before the rains began.
It rained for 40 days and nights, heavy rain. But it is important to remember that it had never rained prior to this, the earth was watered from the ground, so the flood was not caused solely by rain, there were also rivers teaming up from the ground, the formations of the great canyons and lakes, shifting of the continents, this is why we still find human remains buried at greater depths than dinosaur remains, large deposits of rotting material that have formed coal reserves and oil deposits, and all sorts of things that drive old earth geologists crazy. :D

This lasted for 150 days. (Gen 7:12-24) 8:4.

As the water receded, (This process took 150 days) Gen 8:5-12.
Noah first sent forth a raven and it did not return.

He then sent out a dove that could find no place to rest but it did return.
He sent the dove again a week later, this time it returned with the leaf.
He sent the dove out a third time 7 days after that, and this time the dove did not return.

22 days later, Noah saw dry land. Gen 8:13

It took 70 days for the earth to dry to the point that Noah and his family left the ark. Gen:8 14-19

377 days in the ark. (1 year and 17 days.) :)

Where did you get that (bold print) from? I've never heard or read that. Not saying it's not true. I very well could of read that in scripture and just breezed right by it.

Genesis 2:5-6

"These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground."

Before the flood a canopy of water surrounded the earth.
Gen. 1:6-7
Psalms 148:4
2nd Peter 3:5.

Also, there is no mention anywhere in Genesis of any other precipitation until the flood brought rain for 40 days and 40 nights.

This would also explain why so many were laughing at Noah when he was preaching that water would come out of the sky. Much as many laugh and scoff today when we preach that our Lord will come again from the sky. :)
