Bible Speaks Today?

Bible Speaks Today?

Hi Everyone,

I'm fairly new to Christianity and am reading Basics for Believers and Beginning the Christian Life at the moment. I'm also using Explore daily bible studies...

but I'm thinking that along with the Explore I want to get my teeth into a book at a time - I think I'm going to start with Luke or Romans.

I've heard about the Bible Speaks Today series from a Christian friend - what are your views about it? Is it good?

Thanks for any advice. God bless you all!

:D:D:D

I heard a pastor once say that when he was a new believer he went to the pastor of his church and asked, "What books should I read?". The pastor saw a Bible in his hand and asked him for it. He looked at and said "read this book and stay in this". So my answer is read your Bible and become familiar with it. As a new Christian discernment is extremely important. When you are familiar with your Bible you can then discern whether others views and opinions are correct. You want God's word to shape you and your views not other people ideas on God's word.

Good point. Thank you - and now I think about it so true! :)

The Bible is the living Word of God, all of it is inspired by the Holy Spirit.

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Is all Scripture inspired by God? :: Grace to You

"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

Go where God leads you, but for a new believer I would suggest starting with John, then Romans, then Galatians, Ephesians.

Personally I like the NASB for its literal translation, but also the ESV, and NIV.
You can compare translations and commentaries, also acess a lexicon, cross reference, and other bible tools at:

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and

I would also recomend The Gospel of John DVD. Barnes and Nobles stock it.

Yes seek God's guidance in scripture, it's dangerous to be misled by following one who was really a ravenous wolf underneath or misled in some way. We all need to learn how to look to Jesus and be alone with Him and know His voice. It's not for big spiritual godly people it's God's relationship with His (broken) people. Without that relationship, we can be led astray and it can look like the right path, only to hear the words on that day "Depart from Me, I never knew you."

Be serious about a good biblical foundation that puts your eyes and heart on Christ. True biblical gospel.

God Bless you, take care.

Some advice

I would stay away from those that say this has passed away or that has passed away. These people are saying that parts of the bible are not eternal and forever.

I would also be wary of Pastors or teaches that tell you God is Mysterious and you just never know what God is going to do. If they don't know then there is nothing you can learn from them and most of what they teach is just junk you can't really use.

The main thing is keep focused on Jesus and not just a man or certain teaching.

All the above advice is good.

for more variety all this teaching is free. This is my home church and we send thousands of dollars in free material every week. You can download if you want or request the actual CD's and they will be mailed to you postage paid. Stay teachable, almost every denomination has some things that are really helpful. I said most..............

Thank you for your help! Well I'm going through John at the moment with a Christian friend and through Romans myself in my quiet time. We're using Romans 1-8 for our Main Event at uni (this is our main outreach event of the year) and now that I study Romans more and more I can understand why!

Also all my Christian friends are being really helpful and sending me little emails of encouragement filled with quotes from different parts of the Bible to help me along my new path... which is good because it means I'm starting to learn my way around the Bible.:D

Thanks again to all of you! God Bless

KitKat my friend, it would be quite arrogant of me indeed if I thought I could not learn from what the Lord has given my brothers and sisters over the last 2000 years but a firm foundation in the Word should always come first. If you have that you will not have to fear such "wolves" as the Word of God hidden in your heart will be a compass always pointing towards the truth of God's heart.:)

The main thing is to read the Bible for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to help you with passages and interpretion and that way you can learn the whole Word and not just peices form some one else .

Also it is good if your church has small Bible Study Groups where you can be a part and everyone is studying the same thing .That is very helpful.

KitKat you are very lucky to have the friends and the support you have. I have started reading the bible and I am reading Matthew. It is great and I hope we can bounce ideas and suggestions off each other. :)
