What Is The Nature Of YAH's/God's Law

"And the Lord spake unto you out of the mist of the fire:
Ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude;
only ye heard a voice.
And He declared unto you His Covenant, which He commanded
you to perform, even Ten Commandments;
and He wrote them upon two tables of stone." {Deut. 4:12,13}
(see also {Nehemiah 9:13,14} / Ten Commandments {Exodus 20:2-17}
............
"Wherefore the Law is Holy,
and the Commandment Holy,
and Just, and Good."
For we know that the Law is Spiritual:
but I am carnal, sold under sin." {Romans 7:12,14}
............

*In His comments on the 6th & 7th Commandments {Matt. 5:21-28}
YAHSHUA/Christ demonstrated the Spiritual nature of the Law,
showing that it relates, not merely, to outward actions, but also to
the thoughts and intents of the heart. see {Hebrews 4:12}
............
We know that we know Him,
If we Keep His Commandments.
People who say they know Yahshua/Jesus
and do Not Keep His Commandments,
Is A Liar, and do Not have the Truth In Them. {1John 2:3,4}
............

"Not everyone that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord,
shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that
doeth the will of My Father which is in Heaven." {Matt. 7:21}

"The Ten Commandments constitute a summary of duties
Yah requires of mankind.
These Commandments are the foundation which lies beneath
the ethical life of humanity.
They are as binding upon Christians today as they were upon
the Hebrews who first received them."

The Carnal Mind Is Enmity Against Yah/God:
Fot It Is Not Subject To The Law Of Yah,
Neither Indeed Can It Be." {Romans 8:7}

"For This Is The Love Of Yah,
That We Keep His Commandments;
And His Commandments Are Not Grievous." {1John 5:3}

The Law of the Old Covenant (which included not only the 10 Commandments, but all 613 commandments of the Law) was an external restraint put upon the people of Israel to teach them how to live in covenant relationship with God. It did not bring them into that relationship - they were in covenant with God purely by God's grace, because He had caused them to be born into the family of Abraham - it simply taught them what was expected of them within that relationship.

Under the Old Covenant, the people did not have the Holy Spirit living within them - He simply came upon those whom He wanted to use in His service. Therefore an external rule was needed to show them God's standards.

The Law was not arbitrary - every part of it was a reflection of God's character. The moral law was a reflection of His righteousness, the laws relating to care for others were a reflection of His compassion, the laws relating to separation (food, clothing etc) were a reflection of His holiness, the ritual laws were a reflection of His redemptive purposes.

It was, however, flawed, in that an external restraint could only ever show people what God required, it could never provide them with the ability to meet those requirements. In this, the Law served its greatest function: to highlight man's sin and point out his need for a Saviour, thus ultimately pointing to Christ.

Basically, the Law pointed to one great truth: man was created in God's image - he was meant to be as much like God as it is possible for a finite being to be. Every person who has ever lived, except for Christ, failed to meet that standard. Christ met it - He perfectly manifested the nature of the Father on earth - and in doing so fulfilled the Law. In doing so, He made possible a dramatic change in the application of the Law.

God had foreshadowed this in Jeremiah 31:33, where He said: "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the Lord. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts..." (NIV) He did this by sending His Holy Spirit to live within the spirits of regenerate men and women. Whereas the Law had reflected the nature of God, the Spirit, who is God, has the nature of God, and if we will allow Him to do so He seeks to live through us with that nataure.

Therefore we are no longer to be controlled by the Law of the Old Covenant, which is external, but by the life of the Spirit, who lives within us. We do not commit murder, not because an external Law says "thou shalt not murder", but because the nature of the Spirit is to give life not to take it. We do not commit adultery, not because of an external Law telling us "thou shalt not", but because the nature of the Spirit who lives within us is purity.

Thank you Pastor Lynn . That is put so clearly .

1 John 3:24
Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

2 Corinthians 1:5
For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Galatians 3:11
Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith."

Philippians 1:21
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Revlynn, you have such a clear understanding of the law. It wasn't until just recently that I understood how the Holy Spirit living in me changes my appetite for the things of this world. I have been into the Word in the past, and I have asked many questions on this forum, but it was because I so wanted to understand things. But, when I began to believe, really believe myself, that God wanted a relationship, not just my understanding, and that I didn't have to understand things before that could happen, then is when I really started talking to Him (praying) the way I would with a friend. I have experienced such a sweet closeness to Him since, never the way I did at first.

I discovered that many things I'd struggled with, even as a Christian, lost their power over me. And I wasn't even trying. I just got it down with Father. Now I realize it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in me that has the power to help me overcome. When I let Father be my friend, and communed with Him because I needed a friend, I think the Holy Spirit knew He was free to work for me. Does that make sense?

I have learned so much from so many on this forum, but until I put things into practice in my own life, it just didn't stick. I went through all that intense learning, only to find out it was simply a personal thing after all. Now Father is teaching me it's ok to trust Him with my secrets and deep hurts. Just taking them to Him instead of trying to figure me out, and crying Abba Father, is when He can really started to work inside me best. Thanx for the beautiful words, Revlynn. And, I'm so glad you started this thread, Trust.

The Law Tutoring People to Christ

Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. (Gal_3:24-25) The ultimate ability of the law of God is its capacity to tutor people to Christ. "The law was our tutor to bring us to Christ." It is the plan of God to use His law to inform us about our great need for Jesus Christ. Remember the summaries of the law of God: "be holy, be loving, be perfect." The law demands that we be holy. We are convicted that we are not holy. Thereby, the law is saying to us: "You need Jesus Christ." The law requires that we be loving. We realize that we are not loving. Thereby, the law is declaring to us: "You need Jesus Christ." The law insists that we be perfect. We know that we are not perfect. Thereby, the law is announcing to us: "You need Jesus Christ." In this process the law functions as tutor (schoolmaster or child-trainer) instructing people of their need for that which only Christ can provide through His grace. Now that we have responded to the law's tutoring work, we are no longer under the tutor. Now that we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ, we are no longer under the law. "But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." Whereas we once were told by the law to be holy, now we look to Christ for all personal holiness. "But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us . . . righteousness and sanctification" (1Co_1:30). Whereas we once were told by the law to be loving, now we look to the Spirit of Christ for all the love that our lives are to show forth. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love" (Gal_5:22). Whereas we once were told by the law to be perfect, now we look to the Lord for all of the perfecting process. "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Phi_1:6).
O Lord, my Redeemer, thank You for using Your law as a tutor to lead me to Jesus Christ. Your law was so correct regarding my desperate need of a Savior. Now I rejoice that I am no longer under that tutor. What a delight to relate to You by faith and not by performance. What a precious blessing to humbly hope in the Lord Jesus for righteousness and love and growth. How wonderful to look to a gracious, loving Person, the Lord Jesus, instead of to a perfect unyielding standard, the law.
Lord Jesus, please complete in me the good work of Your grace that began when I first believed in You. In Your name, and for Your glory, I pray, Amen.

Bonnie , Praise God that the Holy Spirit is evident in your life and that each one of us can receive teaching and direction from Him as we daily submit to Him and let Jesus take over our lives .

Yes we can talk to Him 24 /7 whether we are in the car or home or church . It does not matter . He hears and answers us . He helps us put closure on our past . He helps us with our relationships . Most of all He gives us ever lasting love to love the unlovely . That is some thing in the natural we could not do if we were not born again .

The heart of the gospel is .... For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith , as itis written " The righteous shall live by faith " Romans 1:17

The Father will STILL be sitting confidently on His Indomitable throne . Praise God Hallelujah .... Glory to His Name

There's no grey area, no middle ground, no comprimise.
People are either declared justified; or they are condemned.
By it's nature, the concept of justification (as well as condemnation)
dosen't allow for degrees. You can't be partially justified or
partially condemned.
A decision Can be changed, a person's status can be reversed,
but in the end a person is either justified or condemned.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in
Yahshua/Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit"
{Romans 8:1}

Yahweh/God Himself, in the person of Yahshua/Jesus,
bore the penalty for our sins.
I know we will Not stand based on our good works,
justified before Yah.
We will stand before Him Justified, because of the
Righteousness of Yahshua our Saviour.

In {Romans 3:21-26}, Paul makes it clear that the righteousness
of Yahshua is the righteousness of Yah Himself, and this is the
righteousness that allows sinners to be justified before Yah.
No human's attempt to keep the Law can save them,
because the righteousness that obediance produces is Never
the Righteousness of Yah Himself.

Yet Still ...
The Law Demands Righteousness,
and this the sinner owes to the Law;
but we are incapable of rendering it.
The only way we can attain to righteousness is through Faith.
By Faith we can bring to Yah the merits of Yahshua,
and He places the obedience of His Son to our sinfull account.
Yahshua Has The Righteousness.

*Please Read
{Romans 3:20,28; 4:13; 9:31,32} & {Galatians 2:16; 3:8-11}
Notice the contrast Paul places between the Law and Faith.

These texts are very often mis-read as teaching that Christians
are no longer obligated to Keep The Law. That Is Not Paul's Point.
The immediant issue here isn't obediance; it's Salvation,
something the Law can never produce us.
It's because we have violated the Law - that we face death,
and it was to spare us from this death that Yahshua came,
Obeyed the Law perfectly, and offers us His record in place of our own.
*In the context of fallen humanity,
I'm Not saying the Law is the solution_I Know Yahshua, our Saviour IS.

YES ~ By Faith Not By Works, we come to the foot of the Cross
and claim something that's not ours; and yet We Get It.
Not because we're worthy but because Yah/God is a God of Grace and,
through Yahshua/Christ's death, gives us what we never could earn ourselves,
no matter how Faithfully and diligently we seek to obey the Law,
or even the spirit of the Law.

There's no question that those who are justified by Faith will have
a new life in Yahshua, a life of Obedience and Sanctification.
Justification by Faith, without Sanctification (which is by faith,as well),
Is A False Gospel. It's Cheap Grace, which is Not Yah/God justifying
the sinner, but the sinner justifying sin.
It's A Gospel That, In The End, Saves NO One.

In {1Corinthians 1:2}
Notice that Paul calls the church "sanctified in Yahshua"
The Corinthian church, struggled with many serious ethical
and theological problems.

In the Bible, there is no such thing as partial sanctification.
We belong to Yahshua entirely from the moment we are born again,
and we remain that way as long as we stay connected to Him by Faith.
We belong to Yah. We have been sanctified by Him.
Because of what Yahshua, our Saviour, has done on the Cross,
He has the right to claim us as His own.
But in a Moral sence, in the sence of growing in Grace,
we are still in the process of being sanctified.
Through Faith, and in total dependence upon Yah/God,
we are changed by His power working in us, to cleanse us,
to purge us of sin, so that the character of Yahshua is formed within us.

We Are Risen With Yahshua, because we first died with Him.
That is, at the moment of conversion, we died to our old self
and now live a new life in Him, a life by Faith, through the power
of the Holy Spirit, manifest, in our own flesh, heart, words and deeds,
the character of Yahshua, "who of Yah is made unto us Wisdom,
Righteousness, Sanctification, and Redemption" {1Cor. 1:30}

*I'm Not talking about a slavish obedience to rules or laws,
but the experience of having died to the old man,
in order that Yah can impart to us His own character.

We Love Yah/God because He first Loved us,
and because of the Salvation that is ours through the Cross.
We want to follow Him in Faith, and Obedience.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do this,
resulting in a new life in Yahshua. {2Cor. 5:17}

If we Love Yah/God because we have been Justified by Faith
and we want to Obey Him, We should know what He expects from us.
*See {Matthew 7:24; Romans 1:5; Gal.3:1; Heb.5:9; 1Peter 4:17}

There are admonitions against sin for the Christian,
and the Law still defines the sin.
{John 8:31,32,34; Romans 6:14-18; 7:1,7,12; 1John 3:4}
The existence of sin automatically means the existence of the Law.
You can't have sin or crime without Law.

Yah's Law Is Spiritual {Romans 7:14}, and it is made for Spiritual beings,
beings who are moved by the Holy Spirit to Obey Him.
The Law was'nt made to save anyone, it was to help us understand
how we are to reveal in our lives the Love for Yah/God that we profess.
Anyone can profess that they Love Yah, and people through the years,
claiming to be "Led By The Spirit" have tried to express this "Love" in
some very strange and even hurtful ways.

*The Bible tells us how we are to reveal that Love:
"For this is the Love of Yah/God, that we Keep His Commandments:
and His Commandments are Not greivous" {1John 5:3}
The Spirit is going to lead us, Not contrary to the Law,
but in a way that "the Righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk Not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" {Romans 8:4}

In order to receive help from our Saviour, we must realize our need.
We must have a True knowledge of ourselves.
It is only when we know ourselves to be a sinner that He can save us.
Only when we renounce All Self-trust,
will we be able to be blessed with divine power.

It's not only at the beginning of the Christian life that denial of self
is to be made. At every step Heavenward it is to be renewed.
All our good works are dependent on a power outside of ourselves;
so there needs to be a continual reaching out from the heart to Yah,
a constant, ernest confession of sin and humbling of our soul to Him.
We are safe only as we feel our weekness and cling to Faith in Yahshua.

With many, sanctification is only self-righteousness.
And yet these persons boldly claim Yahshua/Jesus
as their Saviour and Sanctifier. What A Delusion!
Will the Son Of Yah/God sanctify the transgressor of
our Father's Law_the Law that He Himself came to exalt?!

{Romans 6:17}
But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin,
Yet You "Obeyed From The Heart" That Form Of Doctrine
to which you were delivered.

{Romans 7:12}
Therefore The Law Is Holy, and the
Commandment Holy and Just and Good.

If we walk in the Spirit it is not by rules or regulations that we please God.
<>+<>
~ AMEN ~
What You Say Here Is So True!!!
It is not by rules or regulations that we please Him.

If we Truly Love Him we will give Glory and Honor to Him
by Trusting and Obeying His Will for us.
Not our will, His Will for us.
Not how we think it should be done,
How He says it's to be done.

{Rev.12:17}
And the dragon, was enraged with the woman,
and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring,
who Keep The Commandments of Yah/God and
Have The Testimony of Yahshua/Jesus Christ.

{Rev.21:27}
But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles,
or causes an abomination or A Lie, but only those who are
written in the Lamb's Book Of Life.

{Rev.22:7,12,14,15}
7) "Behold, I am coming quickly!
Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."
12) "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me,
to give to everyone according to his work.
14) Blessed Are Those Who Do His Commandments,
that they may have the right to the tree of life,
and may enter through the gates into the city.
15) But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and
murders and idolaters, and whoever loves and Practices A Lie.

????? I never for one moment suggested any grey area, middle ground or compromise, and I can't see how you could possibly have got that from my post.:confused::confused::confused:

My point is simply that the Law, which is an external constraint, is no longer applicable to those who have the Spirit of the Living God living within them. We are not to live by the Law, but by the life of the Spirit. For a born-again Christian to try to live by the Law would be like an Olympic cyclist riding around with trainer wheels on his bike.

Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Rom 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Rom 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
Rom 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
Rom 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Justification, righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption; Christ is all these things to me and I must be found in Him not standing on my own goodness. No flesh shall glory in His presence.

I would beg to disagree with Pastor Lynn in that she says "the law is flawed". Indeed Ps. 19:7 tells us that "the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul".

Here in this Psalm David considers the Law and what ought to be. The giving of the Law is like a wise parent instructing his children. He is wholly committed to them as he shows them the way of leading a life blessed by Him. They are more precious than gold and sweeter than honey (see v.10). The Law warns God's people away from danger.

It is this perfect law that is now written in the hearts of those who know the Lord as Saviour. It is the "God breathed" Word (2.Tim. 3:16). It is a blessing to us and not a curse. James calls it the "law that gives freedom". (James 2:12)

The ceremonial parts of the Law, which prefigured Christ's atoning work have served their purpose and no longer bind us, but the moral aspects of the Law which show us the character of God never change. As the Lord said "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law.....I have come not to abolish them but to filfill them" Matt.5:17 on.

We now (as I said above) have that Law written in our hearts by the Holy Spirit Himself. "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. It will put my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds..."Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more". Heb. 10:16.

God's perfect Law which by the power of the Holy Spirit we delight to obey, and if we fall praise God we have a mediator, Jesus Christ. (2 Tim. 2:5)

God bless us as we learn together.

I would beg to disagree with Pastor Lynn in that she says "the law is flawed". Indeed Ps. 19:7 tells us that "the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul".

I think you have to take the whole context of the statement , Jeananne and not just pull one part out . The OT law was not sufficient to atone for people's sin and was like Pastor said only an external , atonememnt . That is why God sent Jesus Christ a spotless , sinless lamb to atone for our sins.

It was, however, flawed, in that an external restraint could only ever show people what God required, it could never provide them with the ability to meet those requirements. In this, the Law served its greatest function: to highlight man's sin and point out his need for a Saviour, thus ultimately pointing to Christ.

In the OT we read of the people's constant struggle with sin and their constant sacrificial offerings they had to make for those sins . But we do not have to do all the external any more because , praise God , Jesus lives in us by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God has never wanted to condemn. That has never been his purpose. His
Old Testament Laws were meant to distinguish the Israelites as his
people and preserve them from spiritual and physical harm.

When people rebel, rather than looking forward to punishing them for their sin, Godgrieves over the rebellious child. He yearns to bring restoration.

When Jesus comes as Immanuel, he teaches and shows that God seriously cares about reaching and redeeming rebellious sinners. Incredibly, both Jesus
and John the Baptist have more success with those who are in outright rebellion than with those who have been inoculated by their legalistic religious debates.

Jesus came to the lost, the broken and the least, to save, mend, and make first.

Romans 8:3 "For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering."

Galatians 3:23-24 "Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law."

Galatians 5:16-18 "So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (All NIV, emphasis mine.)
