Sunday School - July 19, 2009

On average, it takes a pharmaceutical drug twelve years and $350 million to go from laboratory to pharmacy shelves. When a drug is developed, it takes a company about three years of laboratory testing before they apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for human testing. In the end, only one in a thousand drugs tested in labs ever make it to human testing. This reflects a tedious and meticulous approach to rendering the best drug possible to the end user. In such, specific standards are established and control variables are maintained to provide a consistent and stable product. Given the dynamics of the human anatomy, the main objective is to provide the best drug possible at the highest degree of safety (minimum side effects). When a drug is approved, it is granted approval for service; thus it is set apart and commissioned for a specific use.

If such efforts are given to address the physical illness of man (which are only symptoms of a greater problem), what greater degree and magnitude of perfection is required to address the inherent problem of sin? Through man this solution is not possible, for time and money does not provide such means; only by the grace of a holy God are we given the cure for the sin problem.

Matthew 1:21. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Hebrews 5:9. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

John 17:19. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

As Christian, we have our cure in Christ Jesus. In Him we are set apart and commission unto good works (Ephesians 2:10), a process of growing in God’s grace; such is a continuous progression of yielding less to our will, but to that of the spirit.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Such is the path of those who are consecrated, sanctified and set apart; a path that is walked in holiness after the examples and life of our savior. Through Him we are sanctified and by His word are we to abide:

John 17:17. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

This week's lesson is from the book of Leviticus. For those who follow the International Sunday School Lesson Plan (aka: The Standard Sunday School Lesson), this Sunday's lesson (July 19, 2009) comes from Leviticus 8:1-13.

This lesson speaks to the shadows and types that ultimately points to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Lord told Moses to take Aaron and his sons with designated garments, anointing oil and offerings before the congregation at the door of the tabernacle. This would be an event that God deem necessary for witness by others. Such is an event that would affect the whole congregation, in that God would demand their obedience in honoring what He had established before them; for this was not a request of Moses, This is the thing which the Lord commanded to be done (Leviticus 8:5).

Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water. Water cleansing was the initial step for consecration into a Godly service; Aaron and other priest on continuous bases would do such. Water was also use to baptize Jesus prior to Him becoming active in His ministry, a ministry that would provide our salvation.

Matthew 3:16-17. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

This baptism offered no cleansing of Him who is pure and perfect, but provided a symbol and an example to man of their need to have their sins washed away.

Moses put the priestly garments upon Aaron; such provided much to distinguish Aaron from others and to signify the unique position of authority given to him by God. Aaron intricate attire would represent a glory not of Aaron, but the glory of the one and only Holy God. A perfect and Holy God working through the vessel of an imperfect sinful man, demands consecration, prior to being placed into service. Christians also took such efforts, godly sorrow unto repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10) and turning away from a life lead by sin.

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Moses anointed Aaron and put special garments upon Aaron’s sons. Moses also anointed the tabernacle and all vessels used therein. For all are set apart for holy use, to appease a Holy God, for the atonement of sinful man. Such would serve as a limited substitute until the perfect and sinless Priest and Atonement is come. All that was held or kept in and by ceremonial atonements, waits for the actually redeemer at Calvary; for it was the hope placed in Jesus that all mysteries, shadows and types discover their purpose.

Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

As Christian, we have a great high priest, which is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. He is our intercessor and we need no other mediator, thus we can come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:14-16). God’s grace has given us the true light, a light that cast no shadows; if we walk in the light we are sanctified and consecrated unto good works

John 8:12. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

In Christ Jesus we have His light, with such light we are commissioned into service.

If you are not a typical Sunday School attendee, Go and surprise the teacher. If your Church does not follow the Standard Sunday School Lesson and you are not aware of the topic of discussion, take on the attitude of "positive anticipation". I am sure you will like it; there is nothing like reading and discussing God's Word.

FYI: Sunday School is not just for Kids, it is also for the Humble (those who seek their commission for service) at heart.

Good Day and God Bless

Thank you for this lesson and we have been studing the Pentatech in Bible Study . I have learned so much more about the comparrisons that the Old Testament gives which in so many places is a forshadowing of Christ into the NewTestament . I am so much more excited and interested in studying the Old Testament than I ever was before.

Because you had so much in this lesson of the two I would like to share what I learned last Wed. and I am still in awe. I hope you don't mind but I think you will find it interesting if you diidn't already know.

We are now studying in Deuteronomy and were leaning from our pastor some of the customes that the Jewish people still carry right up to today because they believe they have made a covenant with God . The Covenant is an agreement that the people will love God and follow His rules and in return God will take care of them .

There are three verses to their prayer called a " Shema " . That was the first verse and the second promises long life and good harvests to those who keep God's rules . The third one is the most interesting and has me so excited about ..... It tells the Jews to wear clothes with TZITZIT at each corner .

"TZITZIT " prounounced ... zitzit ... are tassels made of several threads tied together. And the Shema says that when people look at the tassels they will remember their promise to keep God's rules.

According to the scriptures , Jesus was wearing the tziztit. It is translated " wings . " Therefore each corner of the garment are called the wings of the garment .

During the first century , there had risen a belief about the tzitzit concerning the Messiah . One of them was that the tassels of the Messaih ' s garment possessed healing powers . This no doubt is linked to Malachi 4:2 ' But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings" . So it is believed in Jesus day that the Messiah would come with healing in His wings or His tzitzit . The woman with the issue of blood lived in the First Century Israel and was aware of this belief. When she heard that Jesus --- who was possibly the Messiah ---- was passing by , it would explain why she aimed for and touched the tassel of His garment .

Numbers 15:37-41 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

And it shall be unto you for a fringe, (TZITZIT) that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:
That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

:)

I hope you don't mind but I think you will find it interesting if you diidn't already know.

My wife would have a word of warning if she read this "If you start talking to him about the Bible...He will not quit". :)

That is an interesting storying. The old testament is so rich in treasures, just like to Bible today which lacks reading, those who kept in word in their memory were able to know the true messiah when He arrive. You and Ride4theSon provided additional insight that support our need to keep God's word in memory, less we forget and err in sin due to ignorance.

Numbers 15:37-41 really speak to last weeks lesson and is profitable for instruction in righteousness:

It has been said that "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (George Santayana – circa 1905). For that which is gained by history serves as a foundation for future growth; thus to disregard history, one has no foundational base to build upon.

Good Day and God Bless

I'm telling you Barb, I just started reading Deuteronomy and I am so glad you shared this with me. This would be exciting to me too.

I'm trying to study the Bible on my own, with a couple of commentary books and a Bible software. When I suddenly get something that I didn't understand, I am so excited, so I know how you feel.

I'm so happy for you that you're enjoying your studies so much and are being enlightened. I love the zitzit garment story. I will always look at tassles in a different way now.

Thanks for sharing this with me my Sister.

Love ya, Cheri

Hey, No problem . That's great cause I have a friend that is like that and each day when I talk to him he says " So, tell me something new from your readings today " and then he who has studied the Bible for 45 yrs loves to talk about the Bible and I am a good listener .

It's great. I am learning so much about the Old Testament than I ever did before and the lessons that we are being taught are a Bible School course and we have tests at the end of each Book and we are told that we will receive a certificate at the end . I never really understood at lot of things there and just skipped over a lot .

By the way , I always enjoyed your SS lessons and always forget to tell you . Keep up the good work . God Bless.

I will too , Cheri and I wished I would have known that last year when I was in Israel . But I am still excited to know about this . Especially to think that the woman with the issue of blood already knew and I can picture her crawling past every one ( Cause she was not suppose to be there and let alone touch any one but her faith was so strong that she knew if she touched Jesus' Tassels ( Tzitzits ) she would be healed .

And you know what then that also brought ot mind the verse in Psalms 91
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

That has brought more meaning to me as well . Because I always wondered . " He will cover me with his wings " and thought God is not a bird ... How will He cover me with His wings ? and now it makes sense . He will cover me with His tzitzit translated " wings "

Wow. So you were in Israel. Always wanted to go there. How long did you stay there? What places mentioned in the Bible that you go to?

I envy you.

John .... You can look in the albums as some of my pictures are there ... We were there with our church for 10 days which was really rushed and a lot was packed in in a day so we covered a lot from Jerusalem right up to the Golan Hights. with all the places where Jesus was and visited and I even got baptised in the River Jordan . I waited a long time to to go there and so my dream was fulfilled .
