Hall Of Faith

Hall Of Faith

I think we can justly call Hebrews 11 " The Hall of Faith. '

Hebrews 11

By Faith

1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for.
3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for , evidence of things not seen.

Substance is like the title deed . OUr faith is our title deed to eternal life . Just as a title deed is evidence of real estate , so our faith is evidence of our eternal estate in God .. I like to think that I have real estate in heaven :D

OUr great example of faith is Jesus . Faith is more than belief in God ; it is a way of life .

As we read on in this chapter we are reminded of the heros in the faith . That's why I love this chapter. We see also they were not perfect but they trusted God and gave their lives to Him .

I can say that faith with no effort is no faith at all .

Hebrews is my favourite Book because it is , exhortation , warnings, consolation and assurance all there.

Judiasm is also discussed as we see the superioty of Christ argued point by point agaisnt the claims of Judiasm

I can say that faith with no effort is no faith at all .

I concure whole heartedly. What is better than faith? Only its true object, Christ.

Faith that is passive renders only a belief or an acknowledgement of fact. Such is not a saving faith or a faith that merits any rewards. This faith is like a seed that remains above ground, not sown into the earth, a seed that will never rise from the earth as produce, a seed from which one should never anticipate a harvest. This in the end is a useless faith, a belief or an acknowledgement of fact with no committed will to follow:

Let us seek a faith we can STAND on, A Rock....the Solid foundation:

Luke 6:48. He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

The Rock is Christ Jesus

Good Day and God Bless

Amen to that . That is why I love to read Hebrews The author of Hebrews , whom we don't know , tells us about Jesus , God's Son who is superior to the prophets of old and superior to the angels , The writer tells that Jesus Christ is greater then any spiritual force .... Praise His name forever more .

Jesus---- He was made like us to make atonement for our sins . He is the High Priest in service to God . He shared in our humanity so that by His death he might destroy him who holds the power of death ... Amen

Did anyone notice verses 39-40?

Hebrews 11:39-40

39These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.
40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Glad you asked .... Without Faith it is impossible to please God

Faith declares our weakness while it proclaims the trust worthiness of God and His cpomplete And willing abilitiy to do what we cannot . A lack of faith insults God even as it puts foolish confidence in ourselves.

Another subtle reminded to please stay on-topic. All off-topic posts have been removed by the Moderator Team.

I love the readings of Smith Wigglesworth and here is what he says about faith .

' How great our faith should be for we cannot be saved except by faith . We cannot be kept except by faith . We can only be baptized by faith , and we will be caught up by faith ; therefore , faith in the living God is a blessed reality " ( Smith Wigglesworth )

Another pillar of faith was Abraham . Abraham in hope believed and without weakening his faith , he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead ----- since he was about 100 yrs old ----- and that Sarah's womb was also dead. During the 25 yrs of waiting , conditions had grown more and more hopeless for Abraham yet the promise had been made.

You and I are strengthened in our faith every day because God is all knowing and He has a plan and a purpose for us . So let's not waver but press on towards the mark in Christ Jesus ,, the author and finisher of our faith . Let's ask God to give us the grace to use the faith we have . Then we will see the miracle He will work in us if we dare to believe .

Hebrews 11:6
"But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Without faith it is impossible to please him. Enoch pleased God. How did he do it? Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. In Enoch we see the walk of faith. "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death...for before his translation, he had this testimoney, that he pleased God." His walk pleased God because he walked by faith, not by rules and regulations. He believed in God, and he walked in a manner that pleased Him. Unless we are willing to come God's way and believe Him, you cannot possibly please God.

"For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently sek him." There is a great deal said about rewards, and the reason is that the emphasis is on the Christian life. In light of the fact that we have a living Savior up there who is for us, there is a reward for living the Christian life. But salvation is not a reward--it is a free gift. You work for your reward, but not for salvation. Salvation comes by faith, and the walk of the Christian is also by faith. Enoch walked with God by faith and that pleased God.

Amen and amen . Hebrews 11:25-26

25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
26He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

Moses was another example because he chose to suffer with God's people instead of enjoying sin for a shot time . He thought it was better to suffer for God than to have all the treasures of Egypt , because he was looking for God's reward.

God provides something better for us when we honour Him and walk in the path of righteousness .

Note from our Pastor :

Faith is God in the soul . God operates by His Son and transforms the natural into supernatural . Faith is active - never dormant . Faith is life ; it produces life , it changes . life.

Hebrews 11:30

"By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days."

Joshua is called by some the "watch of faith" He was to march around the walls of Jericho for seven days. Can you imagine at around the 4th or 5th day what everyone was saying. "I thought you were a general. Why are you wasting all this time walking around a wall. Nothing is being accomplished Joshua."

Joshua would say, "The captain of the Hosts told me that the headquarters is not in my tent, but in Heaven. I am not a general but a private in rear ranks, and I am to take my orders from Him. If He said to march around the city, I am marching around the city. You just "watch" these walls will fall down."

Joshua had the faith to believe God.

Yes and yes and look what we can glean from these men of faith . And we are told all we have to have is faith as a grain of mustard seed . Do you know how small a mustard seed is ? Minute .

Faith is the reason we remember great men that should be our heros of the past . I like to think that my hero , first is Jesus Christ and then as we read about all the men of God . Take Noah .... He took God's warnings and must have been the laughing stock of the neibourhood as he built that ark . He honoured God and obeyed God even though he could not see the end result . By his faith he showed the world that God was right and the world was wrong and he became the one who was made right through his faith in God .

Faith is more than a belief in God . It is also a way of life. beleiving that God is real and God is good. It is a choice to believe that God will do what is right.

Faith makes it possible, not easy.
