Daily Reading the Book of Proverbs
To all that are or are not following the "Love Challenge"
In Love Challenge # 21 it challenged us to read the Bible and suggested a chapter a day from the Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters; enough for a month of daily reading. I have started this thread to include one chapter a day for the next 30 days. My prayer is that we all take the time and read these chapters. The whole book of Proverbs is about "Wisdom." Not of this world but God's wisdom. Why was Proverbs a suggested reading? Because we need wisdom to be able to make the right decisions, and how to handle our ups and downs. While taking this Love Challenge, it will be the wisdom that comes from God that will make your relationships Godly and full of love and forgiveness. We will know by increased wisdom; when to be quiet, when to say something and how to say it; when to get involved and when to move aside; when to pray and what to pray for; when to be a comforter, when to help, etc. It is the things in life that we go through daily that we need wisdom in order to respond in a Godly way and not a worldly way.
Getting Wisdom:
Proverbs 4:7 "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."
James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given to him."
I will post two days of Proverbs to catch us up with today. I have already read the first two chapters and I am including them for you all to read if you so desire. Before I start this thread, let me share something with you about the Book of Proverbs:
Proverbs is a collection of lamps.
Not spotlights that blind. Not bonfires that blaze. But lamps. Lamps that do for your heart what the lamps in your house do for your eyes. They chase away the darkness.
"These commands are like a lamp," wrote Solomon. "This teaching is like a light. And the correction that comes from them will help you have life" (6:23).
Reading Proverbs turns on the lamps in the dark corners of life. Corners such as: Foolishness, Wisdom. Pride. Humility. Fear. Insecurity. Wealth. Mercy. Lust. Diligence. Laziness. Prudence. Anger. Flattery. Gossip. Violence.
And that's just a start.
Having trouble with an enemy? Turn on the lamp of patience:
A gentle answer will calm a person's anger, but an unkind answer will cause more anger (15:1).
Having trouble with greed? Flip the switch of prudence:
It is better to be poor and respect the Lord than to be wealthy and have much trouble (15:16).
Anxious about tomorrow? Sit under the light of trust:
Depend on the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (16:3).
See what I mean? Time spent with Proverbs makes a heart wise. It's a practical guide for getting along with others. Whereas Psalms tells you how to get along with God, Proverbs tells you how to get along with people. Whereas Psalms is a book for Sunday, Proverbs is a book for Monday.
So, why don't you flip on a few lights and see for yourself.
Now, we all know why Proverbs was the suggested reading.
This is an AWESOME journey.
God bless,
