Heavy Metal Music

We know alot about what offends Jesus! Sin, sin of any type offends our LORD, and vulgarity to me would count as sin. And in offending your brother, that is your bretheren in Christ i am referring to.. The word gives us an examply of this, that if your bretheren be offended by meat, to not eat it, although it not be a sin to eat meat, if it offends your brother, it could become a stumbling block unto him. We must be careful about what we do, say and have in our lives that other's are able to see.

Nothing in the Bible suggests that heavy metal music is a sin. Therefore individual people must make up their mind on whether or not music is offensive to them. I personally don't find any music to be sinful. What is vulgar? Isn't that also left up to each individual? What one may consider vulgar someone else may not. I don't find it vulgar for a woman to wear a bikini on the beach. Some people do find that vulgar. So you are saying that if other Christians find something to be sinful then all Christians should. We would be offended at the world if that were the case. We must be careful about what others may see? Is that supposed to mean that as a Christian we must "keep up appearances" to the rest of the world? Do only what the Vatican or whoever may have us do? I'll say again that the Bible doesn't say that heavy metal music is a sin.

The words can be sinful, but I don't see how music alone can be. There is sinful country music songs out there, I assure you.

Heavy metal music on its own is NOT a sin. What is dangerous is the spirit that drives the person to write the lyrics for the song. For instance if the lyrics of the song were in the sense damaging or abusive in anyway you should not be listening to it by any means. I do know a lot of heavy metal bands that a blasphemous and they also do a lot of back tracking which plainly put is blasphemous lyrics on the reverse. Back tracking plays with your sub-conscious mind which you never wanna let happen to you.

To explain a bit further. When you listen to these lyrics that are driven by Satan, it eventually starts putting you down making you feel depressed etc which leads to other forms of evil. Thus making it a sin.

Being a fan of metal myself, i fill my ipod with great christian metal bands which have great talented musicians as well as musicians who write lyrics with the right spirit and have a passion to serve God :smiley100:. Now that's what im really interested in.

Hope that makes sense

Amen.. the vulagity is the sin, and vulagar is vulgar no matter to who.. because a serial killer doesn't see killing as a sin, does it make it any less of one??no it does not. perverse language, cursing, those are vulgar... If it is simply the sound you are talking about,i agree, i love rock christian music,.. the sund is great, but i want to hear about my LORDin music i donot want to hear filth..

Heavy metal music regardless of how "sinful" you may think the lyrics are do not make people "sin". People decide to do what they do on their own. Besides, if you feel the lyrics are sinful then the person writing them sinned and not you. Listening to the music doesn't mean anything and it surely won't make you go to hell if you don't repent because you heard lyrics to a song that was written by someone who may have been sinning. Lyrics can mean many things when heard by many people. I know many songs that I thought I knew the meaning to but in reality they meant something completely different. I had no idea that "every rose has it's thorn" was written due to a relationship that went sour and that relationship was between a man and a female exotic dancer. I thought it meant that in life the good things come with bad things too! I surely wasn't sinning by listening to it. We are all responsible for our own actions. In the end if we are judged we will be judged according to what we do. Not what I do. In essence your sins are not my sins and my sins aren't your sins.

I dont think all metal is bad. I listen to it occasionally, and some of my favorite music groups are metal bands. I dont sit and listen to anything that talks about Satan though...just to be clear lol

What you feed yourself with is really important especially with words. What you say to yourself, what you listen to etc etc. All these things create an atmosphere around you constantly. If you listen to music with lyrics that are depressing &/or are constantly down, you will automatically develop feelings and bring in the wrong spirit.

I know what im talking about, because im a musician myself. I used to play in a lot of cover bands and still do from time to time. There's been times when ive been there...

I never said that you would go to hell just because you listen to bad lyrics written by a musician. I said it would lead to forms of evil that eventually leads to sin.

Most heavy metal music isn't specifically about satan, that's not what makes it a sin. What makes it a sin are the lyrics that condone or even encourage immoral and sometimes illegal behavior. There's lots of that in all types of genre's.

What metal lyrics are depressing and down? Just because black is the primary color in metal doesn't mean they are depressing. I love metal. I play guitar and the heavy sound of the guitar in metal music is what puts a smile on my face. I don't listen to depressing music. I find the Jonas Brothers to be depressing. Actually I find pop music in general to be depressing and I find Christian music to be depressing as well. Even as a Christian I find it horribly depressing. Listening to music is not going to make me do evil things. It's like the movie reefer madness. Smoking pot doesn't make people rape and music doesn't make people do evil things. There is no evil music. Metal has a bad name because people in the hayday went overboard and labeled it as satanic. Mom's of fifteen year old boys who listened to too much Alice Cooper thought it was Satanic. It's really not. As a musician you should know that music doesn't make people do bad things ever. If someone does something and even blames it on music it's really that they already had a psychological problem.

Then you would have to define immoral because we all have an opinion of what that is. I can listen and enjoy a song about someone doing something "immoral" and it doesn't affect my salvation. I'm not the one who wrote it. It's like if you are at the grocery store and the person in line in front of you takes God's name in vain and you hear it...you didn't sin by hearing it. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it's bad. Many things are illegal that should be legal and not just in the drug world. Nothing in the Bible says that you can't question authority or disagree with the law or even try to change the law.

There are a lot of metal bands out there with members that are Satan worshipers and personally being a Christian i would certainly not wanna listen to that sort of music no matter how big a smile the sound of the guitars might wanna put on my face.

Im not a big fan of pop music myself. I listen to a lot of hard rock and metal myself and love them myself. Just be careful of who and what influences the music..

Ive said what i have to say and im going to leave the rest to you..

Cheers

I agree with you. Being a Christian, that would not be pleasing to the Lord

Do you know who any of these bands are that have members in the church of Satan? Could you list them?

Unfortunately such a post might end up with this thread being locked or deleted. I don't think it would be appropriate for me to list those bands here or even post a link. Type in, "Satanic metal bands" into google to do a search. Click on the first squidoo link. You'll get the top 10 of them..

How would posting the names of Satanic metal bands cause the thread to get locked? I don't know of any main stream or classic metal bands that are Satanic. Pantera and Slayer aren't even Satanic. Well I searched on wiki and the "black" metal bands on there are bands I've never even heard of. Most of them I noticed were either racist, sexist, homophobic, or supported Nazism as well as being Satanic. My point being is that many of the bands that have been labeled as Satanic in the past were really not. Lyrics can be taken differently by different people and so what someone might think is a sinful lyric may well not be. No one knows a lot of times what or who a song was written by and many artists buy songs that are already written by songwriters.

What about Bob Marley? Many people think that if music causes someone to challenge the current political systems or to challenge the law that it's not morally right to listen to. However, he sang about love, unity, and he even sings about loving God.
