The Holy Spirit ..... Our Teacher

The Holy Spirit teaches us to call our God " Abba Father " Holy Spirit cares about us so much that He prompts us and tells us that we belong to God and indwells in us teaching us about our attitudes and helping us check the ones that are not appropriate.

Romans 8:9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

The Holy Spirit's role as a teacher is to teach us to be more like Jesus and to have the will of God . The Holy Spirit teaches us to live differently from the world and gives us the desire to live for God .

By co- operating with the Holy Spirit we avoid sinning , and produce fruit---- A Christ - like character
Galatians 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

By reading the Word of God the Holy Spirit helps and teaches us to grow as Christians and not stay as baby Christians , drinking milk but as mature Christans wanting the meat of the gospel . The Holy Spirit teaches us also to stay on track by conviction and as we listen and heed His voice.

As I acknowledge the Holy Spirit in my life I can know that He is always there , comforting me and giving me the strength for my day to day living.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1st John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Thank you Ezek ... Those are really good scriptures to tie in to what I am saying . God Bless.

That is so important to remember to be taught by the Holy Spirit and not by all that we read or hear ; not that it is not good but to always go back and dig into the Word to see what God is saying and not to rely on others.

So many people theseday follow what this one or that one says on TV or sit in a service and never go to the Word themselves . Those are the " pew warmer Christians"

I also find it so refreshing when the Holy Spirit gives me a message or word that is just for me . That is why I also think of the Holy Spirit as personal . and each one can have this personal relationship . We have a living relationship with a loving Holy Spirit. We also need to be humble and bold at the same time. Bold in the sense as we are taught by the Holy Spirit .... we can be witnesses to others because He gives us the words to speak .

Good Post! The Holy Spirit is always there to guide us to what is true and what steps we should take in our life. The Holy Spirit guides us if we choose to follow. How blessed we are to have the Holy Spirit!

Thanks Seeker ... So true ... The Holy Spirit is with us all the time and you are right we need to listen and follow as He leads and guides us through our day . And how do we do that? By reading the Word and listening to His voice.

2 Peter : 3 ...... His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires

We need Him to teach us each day when we read the Word

This is so true but we also need to have a teachable spirit ... receptive , and prayerfully asking Holy Spirit as we read the Word to open our hearts and asking God to reveal to us what He has for us this day.

Matthew 21:22
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Luke 12:12
for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

And if we are receptive to His voice , He will teach us , how we should react to a situation , not with anger but with a kind and loving spirit that will amaze others around who are non - believers. You will be surprised how it will blow them out of the water.

But it is only the Holy Spirit who teaches us . In the natural we cannot do it .

I think there are alot of the church that don't even think about applying this to their daily lives.

Hmmm ..... That is interesting and probably true . That is why we need to get into a church who teaches the whole truth of the gospel .

By letting the Holy Spirit teach us we will have a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and I know that is every Christian's desire . I know it is mine .

The psalmist asks God in Psalm 143 to teach him. He wants God to teach him and to guide his steps onto level ground.

Psalm 143 :10....... Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground

Concerning how a person reacts in a given situation or what they say, I have heard people say, well that's the way I am, I'm just being real. They think it's just natural. Yes that's the problem, it's the natural. They don't understand the Spirit of God tries to teach us how to respond, which is positive, instead of react, which is giving in to what the carnal man, the flesh, wants to do. Even if this is explained to them their mind set is that would be hypocritical. Not at all. The Bible says we are to put OFF the old man and put on the new. This is an example of how the enemy suggests to us his distorted perspectives and keeps us from growing in the Lord.

2Corinthians 5:17..... Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Galatians 5:15..... For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

That's exactly it , if we are following Jesus all these fleshly things are behind us and we put on a new garment , and desire to put off the old cloak of sin and the world and and think new thoughts , not thoughts of revenge, anger , and all the "old man "thoughts but thoughts that are pure .

Good post Dusty! When born into the Spirit we are a new creature. To live in the Spirit we must put the worldly ways away and live for God. In the Spirit we serve Love.

Amen to that . We are new creations in Christ Jesus .. We want to listen to His voice and be pleasing to Him by living out His promises.

In John , Jesus tells his disciples he will send the Holy Spirit to help them : to teach them everything and remind them of what Jesus already taught them

…… John 14:15 -17 ….. "If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will bein you.

Who better to be taught by than the Holy Spirit ?

The disciples were taught by the Holy Spirit . The Holy Spirit gave them the power to be Jesus’ witnesses

…. Acts 1:18 …….But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The Holy Spirit guided and strengthened the apostles

The Holy Spirit taught them to understand God’s will ( Just as He does for us today ) . The Holy Spirit taught them to live together in love and carry out the kinds of work that needed to be done in the churches. ….

1 Cor. 12 : 14…….. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.

The Holy Spirit in us teaches us to love others and to live a lifestyle that God wants for his people ….

Romans 8: 9-13 ……..You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
12Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,

2Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Amen Godspeaks .... Thanks . That ties in with Romans . And if we are walking in the Spirit then we will exhibit the fruit.

I am new to this site, having come from a couple of other sites, and discouraged not to find more Christians hearing and learning from the Lord. This thread is like crystal clear fresh water. Wow, how wonderful to find Christians that are really turning to the Lord and listening to Him.
