Sin Free?

Sin Free?

Dear friends and fellow saints, the fact that we are told we can defeat sin is clear in scripture, if we look closely at the word of God. There are many many promises that deal with that fact. I will try to keep this short to encourage discussion.

If we are told that "in every temptation, God will make a way of escape that we will be able to bear it", does He really man all?

If God said "sin shall not have dominion over you", did he mean it?

I literally can list twenty more, reckon yourself dead unto sin and alive unto God, praise be to God who always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus, lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil, and so forth.

I firmly believe we have mistakenly missed why he has saved us, to set us free, "You shall call His name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins" now, in this life to preserve us blameless unto the coming of the Lord. In the gospels, we are told ''He that commits sin is the servant of sin, and the servant abides not in the house forever. But whom the son sets free is free indeed."

So why do we not see this in real time in our lives?? Why does this teaching seem so foreign to our ears? Could it possibly be because it is always, always, ALWAYS "according to our faith be it unto us" and that the good fight of faith which we are told to wage is indeed believing who we are in Christ, so that Christ might dwell in our hearts by faith?

We are told by Jesus himself "Without me, you can do nothing." yet in the writings of Paul we are told "I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me." Is this perhaps what Jesus meant when he expressed his deep concern that "when the son of man returns, will he find faith on the earth?"

Personally speaking, the sins that make up my personal "achilles heel",unlike yours, are not small ones. But I have found as well that His promises are meant for even the most wretched, and they work. This faith of who we are in Christ is what constitutes our shield spoken of in Ephesians 6, "wherewith we shall quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked one". This is why in Revelation 19, we are told "and they overcame him (satan) by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony."

I hope this explanation at least opens up the door for dialog. I fully understand the potential for controversy with this teaching. It goes against all that we have been taught, that we slowly change from the old man to the new by a lifelong, never ending process. I content that the only way the process can work as God intends is when we obey him and believe that "you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit if so be that the spirit dwells in you."

For any who wants to simply attack and ask me "Are you saying you are perfect and do not sin?" I will answer easily "Absolutely not". But what I am saying is we serve a father who longs keep us safe from the world the flesh and the devil, and it comes not by effort but by faith alone. This is why Paul prayed that the "eyes of our understanding might be enlightened that we might know the hope of his calling, and the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe."

God did not save us to wallow in defeat and just hang on till he rescues us. Where is the victory in that? No, we are told that God has made us more than conquerors thru him that loved us. "Unto Him who is able to keep me from falling and to present me faultless, faithful is he is is calling you who also will DO IT!"

Very good Ezek.

I too believe we have victory over sin. That doesn't mean we will never sin. I think many don't realize they now have power to not give in to sin, like when they are an unbeliever. We need to reply on His strength and His power. But they are relying on their strength and will power. Some try to resist the devil in their own strength. But to have victory over him we need to humble ourself and submit to God first.

James 4:6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

2 Corinthians 2:14
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

That explain it all in such simple words . Good posting Ezek . No we are not perfect , but with Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit , we can be overcomers . He does not want us to dwell on the past sins but to strive to be better and how else can we do that but by following Jesus example and how else can we do that , by submitting ourselves to Him , honoring His promises , by prayer and reading His Word .

We have died to sin Romans 6:2
By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Romans 6:7
because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 5:24
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires

So like you said , we have died to sin and are now following Jeus Christ .... but that does not mean that the old nature does not pop it's ugly head but we can put it under the Blood of Jesus .

Ezek33, Made a pretty strong statement about not sinning anymore. Scriptures can not lie, and it would seem God would not ask us to do anything that we could not do.

This is a far cry from being a poor old sinner saved by grace. That is what we use to be, and now are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. More than conquerors.

I like to see this old mentality go away, that victory over sin would be impossible. Even as He is, so are we. We don't have to wait until Heaven, to walk as He walked.

1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Blessings to all.

Actually God wouldn;t ask us to do anything we can do. That way we know it is God working through us when we are enabled by His Spirit to do it. 1st John has a lot to say about not sinning.

1st John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1st John 2
3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked

1st John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

I did not see it that way and he was pointing out that even though we are sinners saved by grace we still need to be on our guard by applying the Word of God to our lives and coveriing ourselves with the blood of Jesus . Satan is prowling like a lion waiting to tempt us waiting to tell us lies , waiting to catch us in our weekest hour . Yes even though we are Christians we fall but that doesn't mean we stay there . We pick ourselves up , ask God for forgiveness and learn from our mistakes and each time we gedt closer to our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Another thing I would add is Jesus always told people to do what they could not in themselves do. He told the dead to live, the lame to walk, the adulteress to sin no more, and He has commanded us to sin no more as well. I full heartedly believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit we can obey that command.

I believe that stance to a point but we are still human and do make mistakes . We will never achieve perfection until we have a new resurrected body . But because we are under grace it is more achievable to not sin than when we were a non- christian .

Remember He told the woman at the well to go and sin no more , and i am certain that she cleaned up her life.

1st John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

In this passage, its like a kid who was caught with his hand in the cookie jar and won't admit he did wrong. God knows when we have sinned, and we do too but some people will not admit it. He is talking here about saying we have fellowship and walk in the light when we really know there is sin in our life, but don't want to own up to it and don't want to stop doing what is wrong.

Yes, we can keep His commandments and walk in the Spirit. We don't have to sin every hour or every day, as some say we do.

1st John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

"Doth not commit sin" --That is the present tense, he does not . It's saying we do not continually sin or practice sin. Practicing is doing something over and over and over. It does not mean we will never sin again in all our life after we get saved. We can go moment by moment at times or day by day. But as long as we are in this flesh body and fleshly mind, we will slip up some time. I don't mean going out and doing some big thing we think is terrible. But just in our attitude or a bad choice of words at time.

This is a far cry from being a poor old sinner saved by grace. That is what we use to be, and now are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. More than conquerors.

Thats right. We were sinners because we were born that way and we couldn't help sinning. We were called a sinner because we sinned all the time, continually and couldn't help it.

But when Jesus came into our lives that bondage to sin was broken and we are not sinners now, who would practice sin all the time. We are new creatures in Christ who do not have to give in to sin.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 6:17
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Romans 6:20
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

Romans 6:22
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Go, and sin no more!!!! least something worse happens to you.

I see a couple different camps (Denomination belief differences) coming out here. GodSpeaks and Ezek33 are taking the scriptures very literal. Dusty is taking a more humanistic approach, though not fully a standard traditional camp. I suspect GodSpeaks and Ezek33 are more toward the Word of Faith Camps.

We have to be careful....................... cause traditionally both camps don't agree all the time.

1st John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

This is the KJV but the literal Greek means to practice sin. Willfully wanting to sin. Unlike the sinner, this we should not do with clear conscience. We can never willfully sin again as the scriptures are very clear on that.

Looking at Dusty's side of things, sometimes we forget that Jesus is still working. He has not taken a break yet. A lot of talk about what he did on the cross, but What about his position as head of the Church.

He preforms the Word with signs following: (Mark 16:20)
He is the author and finisher of our faith: (Heb 12:2)
He continues to complete the work he started in us, and never gives up on us. (Phil 1:6)
He is High priest over our confessions, as he stated if we believe in our heart the things we say, we shall have whatsoever we say. (Mark 11:23) (Heb 3:1)

and he gets involved when we are tempted. He makes a way out. (Heb 2:18)

I am sure I missed a bunch....................

I am sure Jesus would love each of us to just believe the Word and put emotion and feelings aside and just do what the Word says to do. What victory we all would have. However, he is still there, He is still Head of the Church, and he is still helping us. Some have been given lots of revelation and have the faith to walk free from sin, but there are going to be new people, different denominational back grounds, and some that just don't get it. It's great to have Jesus on the throne and in charge.

If someone was a emotional wreak and living in adultery, they cried allot and had emotional baggage, then I would send the to Dusty.

If Someone was strong, and did not need to pour out there junk and just wanted to be stronger. Then I would send them to Ezek33 or WordSpeaks....... I myself don't like to listen to people crying and feeling sorry for themselves. You believe the Word, you believe it will deliver you or you don't. That's why God, gets people to the right people and hooks them up.

We all have things God has given us, and all have a part in the Body of Christ.

Be blessed.

I see a couple different camps (Denomination belief differences) coming out here. GodSpeaks and Ezek33 are taking the scriptures very literal.
I confess i take God's word literally, and even more I believe it to be true. God says He can keep us from falling and i believe Him.

Scriptures that say we are able to live sinlessly
Romans 8:3-4
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit

1st Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil

Jude 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless, Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy

I guess the point I was making was that we are not Jesus and He was the only sinless man that walked on this earth . However , the Holy Spirit in me does keep me from sinning but I also have to do my part by obeying the Word , reading the Word daily , and praying and putting on the armour of God . But still not to say that I am not going to sin . It might be just a word of gossip or being angry over something . What I said is we are still human .

And yes, Word of Faith , I don't mind if some one who is an emotional wreck comes to me for help as I have been through some very turmultuous times in my life and want to help others and do feel that is my calling to help young girls ( That is good perseption on your part Wordof faith . ) God gives each of us different callings and because of my abusive life , I can relate to to these types of individuals . But I would not say that I am not strong .

“Sin” is a very broad word. It encapsulates everything from murder down to an impure thought that may only last a couple seconds… and everything in between.

No one……… not one of us can not sin on a continual basis. True, the Holy Spirit can lead us and guide us, but only if we yield to the Holy Spirit on a continual basis. That’s our part, to yield to the Holy Spirit so he can work through us.

But we are not perfect. Many times we sin and we don’t even know it. Other times we may try to justify what we do and make ourselves believe we have done no wrong.

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Jas 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

We cannot bridle the whole body all day every day.

I think that as we grow in faith, we usually sin less. So we are still sinners, but as we become more Christ-like, we become less of a sinner and more like Jesus Christ. I wholeheartedly believe that the Holy Spirit can help change our ways--- I've seen it in my own life, where I could not stop a particular sin no matter how hard I tried, until I asked the Spirit to help me in that area and then suddenly I was able to stop it completely.

Romans 5:6 said:
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. . . . But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Jesus died for our sins, so while we have no sins on our heart we are "godly"/unblemished as Christians (we are "Christ-like"). As soon as we do sin, that's when we need to be forgiven again through Christ's sacrifice because we become ungodly again.

I guess the point I was making was that we are not Jesus and He was the only sinless man that walked on this earth . However , the Holy Spirit in me does keep me from sinning but I also have to do my part by obeying the Word , reading the Word daily , and praying and putting on the armour of God . Good word.

“Sin” is a very broad word. It encapsulates everything from murder down to an impure thought that may only last a couple seconds… and everything in between.
A fleeting thought is not sin no matter how impure it is when we dwell on that thought or worse when that thought becomes our intention that our thoughts become sin.

We cannot bridle the whole body all day every day.
But God can so if we continuously yield ourselves to God He can keep us from sin.

A fleeting thought is not sin no matter how impure it is when we dwell on that thought or worse when that thought becomes our intention that our thoughts become sin.

But a thought is sin. If we dwell on that thought, it then becomes a transgression.
An impure thought does not come from God, it comes from our flesh. No matter how small of a thought it is, it is sin. Once we recognize it, we can dwell on it, or we can get rid of it.

But God can so if we continuously yield ourselves to God He can keep us from sin.

And yes, I agree God can, “IF” we continuously yield ourselves to God.
That is a very large “IF” because we can’t do that all day, every day.

But a thought is sin. If we dwell on that thought, it then becomes a transgression.

Lets think about this. How can just a thought be sin, since Jesus didn't sin. If he never had a wrong fleeting thought come to him, how was he tempted in every point as we are? The second a thought comes we can immediately resist and cast it down, bringing every thought in line with the scriptures. And in that case we have not sinned. We didn't want that thought, we didn't accept it or dwell on it, and we hated it and got rid of it. Its like they say, you can't keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.

An impure thought does not come from God, it comes from our flesh. No matter how small of a thought it is, it is sin. Once we recognize it, we can dwell on it, or we can get rid of it.
Sometimes it is the flesh I think the enemy can drop a wrong thought in your mind too.

Being tempted is not a sin.

Mat 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit up into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil.

The devil tempted Jesus. That does not mean Jesus had any thoughts of doing what the devil wanted him to do.

The devil tried, but he failed.

You don’t honestly believe Jesus had any impure thoughts… do you?
