BP: No oil leaking into Gulf from busted well

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - BP says oil from its broken well has stopped gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April.

The announcement Thursday came after company officials said all valves had been shut on a new cap over the busted well in an experiment to stop the spill.

Kent Wells, a BP PLC vice president, said at a news briefing that oil stopped flowing into the water at 2:25 p.m. CDT.

It was a long-awaited milestone in one of the nation's worst environmental disasters. While not a permanent solution to plug the busted well, the success in capturing the oil spewing out was welcome news.

The crisis began when BP's deepwater rig exploded, killing 11 workers.

The cap is not a permanent fix. BP is drilling two relief wells so it can pump mud and cement into the leaking well in hopes of plugging it for good.

Because they were living on the edge of technology and they didn't have any backup plans that worked with the amount of pressure the oil streamed at.
It was the biggest case of human stupidity in the last 50+ years.
BP should be shut down.

I am glad they finally capped it but not to soon, the damage is done now & it is going to release so much more pollution in to the sky that its not funny.
Oil + sea water = really bad gas.

and yes, it was God that capped it, we never had the technology to do it so its nothing short of a miracle that its capped now.

I really hate to be the voice of reason here but living on the Gulf Coast for all of my life except the eight years I spent in the Army I know that reason must prevail. This oil spill has already crippled the coast by killing this year revenue. There are businesses that will never reopen as a result and thousands will be changing their employment, if they can find any. The number of folks on the Gulf coast that depend on BP directly and indirectly numbers in the tens of thousands and you want to close BP and permanently disable all those families?

I think the one profound thing Bush said in my hearing was that America needed to get off it's oil addiction .

Bill, you make a good point . in judging things we need to remember the poor .

the sad thing is . everything is important . the creation is important . and those people losing jobs are important . and the whole system is messed up right to the core . and we need to try to redeem what we can out of inevitably occurring bad situations .

I'm not sure if this scripture fits here, but this is the one I heard in my spirit as I read these posts.

1 Corinthians 1:27 . . . "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty."

This one I added for myself . . .

1 Corinthians 1:31 . . . "According as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."

I dont think oil is an answer to anything and while we keep treating it as an answer to any problem we are going to keep increasingly use it, in a time when the earth cant handle that.
And make our earthly living experience 10 times harder than it needs to be.
Nothing says Jesus will come back tomorrow or even in the next 100 years, so we need to be preserving our earth to create the best quality of life possible not only for us but for our children and so on.

Oil is an answer to nothing and if we took the time to change, we would need 1/50th of what we consume today.

I would feel sorry for the people that lost their jobs but they would get back on their feet and it would be our jobs as Christians to help them do that...

God never said "Just trash the earth and dont worry because I am coming back"
In fact, he says nothing of the sort;
"Then the LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to Cultivate it and Guard it" ("to tend and care for it" - The Living Bible2) - Genesis 2:15
"So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female, blessed them, and said, 'Have many children, so that your descendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals.'" - Genesis 1:27,28

Gods original attention was for us to manage the earth in a good way, not destroy it.
I dont see how our sinful habbit changes that, it just makes it almost impossible to fully achieve, but nothing no where says we shouldn't try.

You know when I posted this about stopping the oil spill from getting any worser, I did it as a good thing..what's happened here y'all??

It is indeed a very good thing that God gave a helping hand, because without Him it would of took years to cap...

I dont think anyone has said it was a bad thing :p..

I was just replying to bill, I do have alot of compassion for preserving the earth but I apologize if I killed the vibe :p

Thank you PreciousPuppy . you did a really good thing . let us continue in thanksgiving for what God has done . and prayer to continue in what must be done (i.e. completely sealing up the hole, praying for the families affected by the 11 deaths, and any loss of work . ) Thank you for posting this :)

*hugs*
