The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

If your experiences contradict Scripture, then be very careful, as Satan, who is very crafty, can mislead you.

Always believe the Bible before experience!!!

The Bible is very clear.. NOT EVERYONE receives the same gifts...so everyone will NOT receive the gift of tongues. Also, those few who do, will speak in known languages to unbelievers and share Jesus in their native language. Remember, Scripture says tongues is NOT for believers!
Can someone tell me how to unsubscribe from this? I thought I did hahahaha. Oh well, guess I didn't.

JG27 has given you prove from scriptures that talked about speaking in tongues. I am NOT going to get in this debate with you.

Let's agree to disagree. The end. I am NOT going to change my beliefs on your account, and you won't change your beliefs on my account.

I know my God, and I know how Satan operates. Trust me. I am all about chasing after GOd's own heart. I do not trust my heart on anything, but I trust in God.

You have made it very clear that you do not believe in tongues. And we respect what you believe in. But now we're asking you to accept what WE believe in.

So like I said, let's agree to disagree.

Now, this is a warning. If this topic gets into a debate, this thread will be closed.

As your comments are in open forum I felt it important to reply here. I will reopen the thread to allow you to respond.

I agree with your first two statements, but disagree with the third.

The fact that this topic is the subject of such a heated debate is proof the Bible is not clear regarding your interpretation.

Also, the first and last statements may be taken together as an implication that xspinningisfun's experience contradicts Scripture and she has been mislead.

There are many believers, myself included, who accept her experience as from God through the outpouring of the Spirit.

....You have made it very clear that you do not believe in tongues...

That is not true at all. Where did I say I do not believe in tongues? Please quote me and I will retract it, because the truth is I believe in the gift of tongues. However, in every single occurrence of tongues in Scripture, it was done in known languages where the hearer understood it in their native tongue.

So I believe in tongues, but the biblical tongues of known language, not the unbiblical tongues of unknown language being done by believers in front of believers where nobody understands anything that is said.

The purpose of the gift of tongues is to reach unbelievers about Jesus. The gift is giving to reach the lost. It is not their purpose to work a change in the person's life. They are, rather, the work of the Spirit through him for the instruction and salvation of others.

When Jesus sent His followers to the world with the commission of proclaiming the wonderful story of salvation, He marvelously equipped them to communicate that message through the gift of "understandable tongues." Those who heard them speak took note of them that they had been with Jesus. (See Acts 4:13.) It was needed in order to overcome the language barrier.

The Bible clearly says that tongues is NOT for believers, it's for unbelievers, 1Cor 14:22.

But as you have mentioned... let's agree to disagree :)

God bless you.

Yes, I understand that and I respect that. I know you love Jesus and are doing what you think is right. Pray to God about this and ask God to show you if what I have said has validity or not. God bless your heart.... we are family and we both belong to Christ.
