geocentrism

Hey everyone I've studied a lot on geocentrism lately and I know that the most of the verses given to try and say the Earth in geocentric are taken out of context and don't actually say that the Earth is geocentric. The one verse I seem to be have a problem with is Psalm 104:5, can someone possibly explain this scripture for me and what it says.

The 104th Psalm is the Creation Psalm. You will of course struggle with the idea of relating to a model of the solar system or universe having the Earth as the center.
The 104th Psalm is a poet's version of the Creation chapters of Genesis.

The Psalm is unique because it is the only example of ancient poetry in which there is a distinct recognition that the universe was created by and is totally dependent on a Creator. That is the theme of the Psalm.

Now as for geocentrism, or the earth being the center of the universe, or even being flat is not the issue. The reality is that GOD IS THE CENTER OF ALL THINGS.

I hope that helps you.

Namely the spirit(-ual) is the foundation of all (other) things in the universe, and this is not the only planet in the universe.

John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word(ie the sririt(-ual)), and the Word was with(ie in) God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

John 10:16 "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold(ie of this planet): them also I must bring(ie to the Eternal Life), and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold(ie one people/nation), and one shepherd."

Hi SP,

The confusion actually lies in the ESV translation you linked to, which is why it is always good to reference several translations and the Strongs Concordance of Hebrew, Chaldea, and Greek to understand the original words used by the writers, not just the words used by the translators.

The KJV/AV and Darby Literal translation use the word REMOVED, not MOVED.

The HEBREW word the writer used is

(From Strong's)
04131 mowt (pronounced: mote)
a primitive root; v; {See TWOT on 1158}
AV-moved 20, removed 5, slip 3, carried 1, cast 1, course 1, decay 1, falling down 1, exceedingly 1, fall 1, ready 1, shaketh 1, slide 1, variant 1; 39
1) to totter, shake, slip
1a) (Qal) to totter, shake, slip
1b) (Niphal) to be shaken, be moved, be overthrown
1c) (Hiphil) to dislodge, let fall, drop
1d) (Hithpael) to be greatly shaken

When you look at it this way it is clear the writer was referring to its ENDURANCE rather than its location.

Hope this has clarified things for you.

Regards, Misty.

The NASB puts it "so that it will not totter forever and ever." In other words, the earth is established in God's order and according to His design and purpose. Which, as Major pointed out, is consistent with the theme of Psalm 104.
