Hi, I Am Up To Gen 7.

Hi this is first time on this site. It seems nice.
I decided to read the KJV from front to back for the second time in my life. Im using Jon Gill commentary. But IDK. It seems good so far. What say you? What is a good commentary?

KJV vs. AKJV
Matt 6:33 But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. AKJV

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. KJV
Come on, AKJV didn't sound as right to me. KJV is just cooler. I say unto ye.

Jesus is God. He died so I could be a living sacrifice to God and only God. All power is given in Jesus name.

Hello there,

Welcome to CFS!! Im sorry but haven't heard of Jon Gill. If his commentary is in line with God's word then id say why not!? :)

God Bless
Jake

Hello shakey, well really the best commentary one can use is the Holy Spirit. The Bible was inspired by God and so who better to help you understand it? This might sound unhelpful, but consider why the Bible was given to us in the first place. The Bible should enlighten us and edify us. A commentary can do the same, however the main building material in a commentary is the author's own understanding which could be in error.
You know this to be true, else you would not ask the question.
As to which version is best, you should go with the one you are most comfortable with.

However, in reference to the two versions you have cited and the words you have underlined;
'ye' is a second person personal pronoun from middle English period which has exactly the same meaning as 'you' in modern English.
'unto' is a preposition again from middle English usage which has exactly the same meaning as 'to' in modern English.
Personally, I think that if your normal practice is to use Middle English in your everyday speech then thou shouldst useth the Kjv in the stead of the Akjv.
However if you use modern English in your everyday speech, then I would think a modernish English version would be the best for you to study.

Thine own preference shouldst decideth the matter for thee.
blessings,
calvin
