Church's Misguided Behavior.

In Matt 5, Jesus says if a man asks for your coat give him your shirt.
40 If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your [coat also. 41 Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

So, I look at the church's behavior today, and I have to ask, when did we abandon this teaching? Can you think of any group in the world today that has asked for something that the Church has stood blatantly against and flat out refused them in every possible way they could muster?

On what grounds would the Church do that? There were no caveats with the above examples of living from Christ. he said, give them more than they ask for. Not, wait for them to convert, then give them what they ask for. Not judge them to see if they are worthy of your generosity before you give it. But provide more for them than they ask for.

What would the fruit be if the church was seen and known for this behavior today?

Some people will say we should make sure the people are living by God's standards before we enable them, but Paul coached...."

1Cr 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
1Cr 5:13
But those who are outside, God [ judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.

And the Christ went on to say.....

Matt 5:3
"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,45 so that you may [ be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

And then He moves forward to command you to...48 Therefore [you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

OR, you are to love, even your enemies, as God the Father does. And the examples Jesus gave, were to provide their necessities for them. Can you think of any group the Church refuses service to under these stipulations that Christ gave us?

While I am not commenting specifically on the Church (capital C), I will say, that IMO the Gentile nation abandoned this teaching when politics, status and money became more important motivators than His Love.

Christians are so unlike Christ, as Ghandi observed. If it weren't for Christ Himself, I'd be an atheist.

amen to this, I'm with you I'd probably be a psychic like Sylvia brown now if it weren't for Jesus...BC Christ's followers and pastors even are just imperfect...to the point I wonder if they're even trying.
