Ruth 1:20-22

Ruth 1:20-22
KJV(i)20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? 22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
NSB(i)20 She said: »Do not call me Naomi (meaning pleasant). Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life bitter. 21 »I went away full, and Jehovah sent me back empty. Why do you give me the name Naomi, seeing that Jehovah has given witness against me, and the Almighty has brought sorrow to me?« 22 So Naomi came back out of the country of Moab. Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, came with her. They came to Bethlehem in the first days of the barley harvest.

20 The Lord causes things to happen but both good and bad happen to those who follow Him and those who don’t, our rewards are not necessarily in this life but the life to come. We should not bitter against God when things do not go against our way because His ways are greater than ours, this is learned in the book of Job.

21 She had a full house when she left. First should not have left but kept faith and stayed and counted that the Lord would provide. God’s plan was greater than hers. God’s involved using the decisions they made to bring the Lord Jesus into the world over ten generations later. Even though Naomi felt hopeless through all this happening the world would be given hope, in Christ.

22 Ruth lived by her word and stayed with Naomi. She would be the one the Lord would use to be a blessing to the world. Her devotion allowed her to be an ancestor to King David and the king’s line which includes Jesus, the King whose reign never ends.

To me Clark it says that Ruth was a Moabitess, the descendant from Lot. The Moabites were heathen. God in His eternal wisdom chose a heathen girl, led her to Bethlehem and made her the wife of Boaz a Jew. This shows me God's grace as He adobted the Gentiles into Christ's family. Ruth, although born a heathen, learned of the true God whom she served and became the great grandmother of David.
