Untranslated Hebrew ..

there are many instance you will find this in both the NT & OT ..
so I thought a thread for these words was a good idea ..

you will find shiggayown in only two verses ..

Psa 7:1 Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

Hab 3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.

Shigga-ion (singular)
Shig-ion-oth (plural)
fem plural = ôt (Judean Hebrew: oth)

interesting enough, what is given is altered ..
the actual Hebrew compound word given in both reads "shiggayown"

which ends in "yown" meaning "day of" ..
note: "yowm" means "day" ..
shagah = to go astray, stray, err

Therefore "shiggayown" is translated: "Day of Mistakes" ..
or in other words, it's a song or prayer of "a day of repentance" ..

other forms ..
shigi'ot
shigia

a common untranslated word is Amen ..

Ahmayn = amen
Ah-ma-yn, literally meaning: "from the water source"
or indirectly meaning: an avowment that "it is of God"

Bahruch ahtah Yahh Ehloheynu mehlehch haholahm
ahsher nahtahn lahnu eht dehrehch
hahyayshuah behmahsheeach Yahshua .. Ahmayn

Holman Bible Dictionary
Shiggaion
(sshihg gay' ahn) Transliteration of a Hebrew technical term used in psalm titles (Psalm 7:1 ; Habakkuk 3:1 ). Suggested translations include, “frenzied” or “emotional.” Some think the basic meaning is “to wander” in reference to a wandering style of thought or melody or to the unconnected expressions of a lament.

From what i understand it is a frenzied expression of our Lord God thru music and dancing something like what David did when he danced half naked in front of the Ark in pure joy for the Ark was back in the hands of the Israelites... of course his wife did not like him dancing half naked in front of his maids.

Shiggaion is used rarely in the Bible but i find this beautiful when thinking of psalm being sung with shiggaion in the worship and praise of our Lord God ...

The work 'amen' is found 60 times in the NRSV... 59 in the NASB... 79 in the KJ... this particular scripture uses the word 'amen' differently:
Revelation 3:14
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

My Mom was careful who to say 'amen' to, for inadvertently one may either bless a blessing by saying 'amen' or seal the doom on the other for the words that the other uses and when wishing one evil by responding amen one will reverse the evil against you and give it back to the person who is trying to do harm to you ... something like shaking the dust of your sandals...
Matthew 12:37
37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Holman obviously had no clue .. "frenzied" is laughable, with NO basis for such a rendering .. they would have done well if they traced the root-word "shigia" first .. it seems they mistook David's "celebration" of the Ark coming to Jerusalem as shigia .. it was the opposite of it .. shigia is somber .. and the singing would express something more similar to an old Gregorian chant .. read the context of what is written ..
to repent or rue is "sorrowful" ..

another misconception .. is David danced half naked .. the Bible said he wore a Priest "ephod" which was very similar t0 a "slip" .. indeed, it had ties on the side, but "half naked" is a poor understanding what an ephod looked like .. those who echo this should read the description given in scripture first ..

2Sa 6:14 And David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod.

AND A ROBE !!!
the ephod was keyed in on because he also assumed the role of a priest (man of God) the same as what Samuel wore ..

1Ch 15:27 Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.

when I was born-again .. I had to be retaught ..
I first had to let go of ALL the pseudo preconceived ideas that I had heard and believed ..

to which most of them refuted scripture ..
Michal (daughter of Saul) was upset that David acted like a commoner, instead of as an uppity elite ..

2Sa 6:16

2 Samuel 6:14 David danced before the Lord with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod...
i only see mentioned here a ''linen ephod''

2 Samuel 6:20 David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ maids, as any vulgar fellow might shamelessly uncover himself!”

so...this is the ephod... hmmm now i know why his wife Michal was upset... let's not forget that David had a penchant for women and he did threaten his wife, who was King Saul's daughter and who also saved his life, that he would not touch her but would be spending time with concubines... just like a man to do this to a good woman :)

1Ch 15:27 Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen.

that is exactly what I was talking about ..
it says A ROBE above AND an ephod ..

an ephod had shoulder straps and tired on the sides according to scripture ..
so WHY would they try and make him be in a diaper ???

1Ch 15:27
מְעִיל m@`iyl H4598

Exd 39:23
and the opening of the robe H4598 was at the top in the center, as the opening of a coat of mail, with a binding all around its opening, so that it would not be torn.

the ephod went OVER the robe ..

Lev 8:7
He put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash, and clothed him with the robe H4598 and put the ephod on him; and he girded him with the artistic band of the ephod, fnwith which he tied it to him.

it says nothing about the white tunic put on first ..
but it says David had on the blue robe and the ephod (which goes on top of it)
it looked like this

(without the breastplate w/12 stones & w/pockets for the Urim & Thummim)
the Urim and Thummin were used for judgement .. one represented innocence, the other one guilt ..

Exd 28:30 "You shall put in the breastpiece of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall carry the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually.

Lev 8:8 He then placed the breastpiece on him, and in the breastpiece he put the Urim and the Thummim.

Thummim is derived from the consonantal root t-m-m, which means innocent
Urim simply derives from the Hebrew term Arrim, which means cursed
in reference to the deity’s view of an accused, the Urim and Thummim were used to answer the question innocent or guilty.

you will also see the same concept of cursed on the left and mercy on the right in ..
Boaz & Jachin
Goats & Sheep (see Matt 26)
Mercy Seat Angels

my guess is the thief that received mercy at Jesus crucifixion was on the right as well ..

the most popular rendition of the choshen or Hoshen ..
that being 4 rows of 3 gemstones being simply in a line ..
However, I believe the scholars were too simplistic .. the bible tells us there were 4 rows of 3 gemstones .. but where is the pouch/pocket to put the Urim & Thummim in ???
I looked at the other arrangements the bible lists, that being ..

1) the 12 tribes camped in 4 rows around the Holy of Holies in the Sinai
and
2) the 12 gates on the New Jerusalem with 3 tribes on all 4 sides
This seems like the correct placement to me as well for the Hoshen

here is my rendition of it ..
(gemstone color and tribe name not place in order yet)
(the center is a pocket, which the Urim & Thummim is laid on top but goes in)

i am sure that being the fact the ephod was so complicated with all these gemstones that it was at least a certain length, at least to cover the front parts of David... but, and you must admit, why would his wife accuse him of uncovering himself in front of all those maidens if he was all dressed up...? Besides, all points to the fact that David was kind of a 'womanizer' :

2 Sam.6:20 David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ maids, as any vulgar fellow might shamelessly uncover himself!

i think this is self explanatory in that his own wife saw him and brought it to his attention... and of course we all know what his answer is to her.

Now , do you really think this is appropriate for a king to dance half naked, a married king to dance for his fair maidens... but, is it appropriate to dance half naked in front of God...?

even when not dancing he is half naked...

lol...

In all seriousness, David was greatly loved by God, and for many good reasons, and we also love him for who he was and as a servant of God he was in love with God and showed it in his psalms and actions. i am sure that in those days since the Israelis knew king David and knew of his boisterous ways and flamboyant actions, and they loved him, they accepted his actions as endearing and looked on him with admiration. For these reasons the fact that he did dance half naked was looked as natural for their king and God accepted this as David's way of expressing his love for Him freely and without anything held back...

good question ..
1 st look at the facts ..
1 God was not displeased with him ..
2 God was displeased with Michal ..

I looked at the Hebrew, and it seems to me the meaning got lost in the English ..
גָּלָה galah H1540

now look what the word means .. "to reveal"
"to reveal" does not necessarily mean to undress ..
it can if that is the context, but since scripture says David also was wearing a robe, then that context does not fit ..

Gen 35:7 He built an altar there, and called the place El-bethel, because there God had revealed H1540 Himself to him when he fled from his brother.

as when God opened Balam's eyes .. he "revealed" the truth to him ..

Num 22:31 Then the LORD opened H1540 the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed all the way to the ground.

next the word "vulgar" is a bad translation and it seems the translators were purposely trying to make an erroneous context fit ..

רֵיק reyq means "empty, worthless or foolish"

so Michal was saying King David got out there and did not act like a King, but instead, he "revealed himself as a common fool" .. and THAT is why God was mad at her, because God liked David being a "peoples King" .. yes .. He wore a robe too .. scripture says so ..
