My Wife Had Nightmares...

Howdy!

As some of you know I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 2013, a couple years after I was married. My wife still remains an unbeliever. She accepted Christ when she was a small child (which I didn't even know until she told me this last weekend - I knew she used to attend church but not that she accepted Christ). Since then however, she has rejected the notion of Jesus and God altogether.

This last weekend we watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose. These movies give me insight as to how off base some people can get when it comes to the subject of the demonic. Also, this gives me ammunition if people (like my wife) are having nightmares or other types of fear based on these ridiculous movies. Anyway. I watched it a long time ago before being saved and it scared the crap out of me, now I just laugh and poke holes is the things I see that are not of scripture.

My wife woke up last night with nightmares and said she heard a strange sound. She said it sounded like someone breathing heavy. This of course could have been any number of things. What floored me though, was she said that she didn't know any prayers. I could have used that opportunity to hold her hand and pray with her, but half asleep and not thinking I just told her to pray anything that comes to mind and God will listen. I said a short prayer, rebuking any spirits, in Jesus' name, that my have entered my house and I fell back asleep.

I feel like I missed a huge opportunity to get my wife reconnected with the Lord. I will be talking to her about this later, but my fear is that she's going to think it was all in her head and she still doesn't need the Lord. Her acknowledgement though that she is helpless without God is a good sign.

Thoughts?

That movie scared the crap out of me. Anything involving possession I just can't watch. I can watch nearly any type of horror movie and not be bothered but give me a movie about possession and I will be awake for days.

If she was upset she didn't know any prayers I would say that she does believe in God. A lot of people seem to say they don't believe in God but when something bad happens all they want to do is pray. I always listen to christian music when I'm around people that don't believe. I figure it may plant a seed even if they aren't willing to talk to me about Christ. Music is a powerful thing.

The most terrible nightmare I ever had was the devil "coming for me". I was about 28 y.o. at the time, visiting my sister's house. I was about to leave and stepped outside to go, when I saw the weather and had a dreadful premonition. It was dark, and full of dust everywhere, with very little wind. I asked if I could spend the night, and I did.

I was asleep, and I don'r know what time it was; but I felt something evil. I couldn't wake up nor open my eyes: and I felt the presence of satan: I "saw" a dark figure of pure hate coming towards me. All I could think of was "The Lord's Prayer": and I started to recite it...but all I could remember was "Our Father, who art in heaven...". And the dark spirit started to laugh at me, and drawing closer. But I was repeating the only thing I knew: "Our Father who art in heaven...": over and over. I didn't even know the Lord's NAME! And the evil spirit was laughing at me, drawing closer...then it stopped and could not get any closer. I don't know what happened or what the evil spirit saw: but I could almost see its face turned to a hateful rage, and it began to back off...until it disappeared. God had mercy on me! Even when no one in my house were saved!

You can be sure that God is having mercy on the wife of a believer! Pray even the "Lord's Prayer" with her: concentrating on the part that says, "...thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth (even on that piece of earth we call a body), as it is in heaven." And remember Beloved, ask her to call upon the NAME of the Lord, for "Whosoever calls upon the NAME of the Lord shall be saved."

Wow, if that happened to me, I'd be changing my bedsheets (if you know what I mean). That's pretty creepy. Also, I'll be sure to remind her to call upon the name of the Lord if she ever decides to pray! Thank you for your story!

I think you did well....it is true that God will hear her whatever she says.....at this point it is not the words that matter. God hears those He is calling......you can know that His work in her is not dependent on you - so don't beat yourself up over this. He will use you for planting and watering and such, but it is the Lord that will do the growing! "For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy." 1 Corinthians 7:15. "Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how." Mark 4:27.

No, its only too late when theyre 6 ft under. If I were you Id teach her how to pray, they dont have to be mechanical lordy holy prayers.. just how you feel along w/ scripture.

Brother its not too late...This may be the door to show her Gods power and willingness to help her? If she will allow you to start praying with her before she sleeps it could open a great door of faith to her...press on in confidence my brother...you have not missed an opportunity but recognized one:)

Amen. I am a witness to the power of the NAME of Jesus. I have seen a man recover from a 2-3 month coma after being shot several times; and a man with MS recover completely while in a state of semi-coma for about six weeks. Both were prayed over, invoking the NAME of the Lord: the man who was shot, several times a week; the MS, just twice.

His NAME is Jesus!
