John 12:25 (NIV)
The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

What does this mean? Does this mean, if he take care of himself, he will lose his life and if he hates the way how is life is, he will be able to keep it for eternity? I am confused. I want to know what does this verse suppose to mean and what's it context are. If anyone wants to explain this, I will be grateful. :)

Well you probably could better understand this as you read Pauls epistles..we all have that part of us called the "flesh" that should be put to death with Christ and our "new" life is based upon the Spirit of God working in us...that's a simple explanation..

Oooh, as to my understanding, it is the flesh that is sinful, but as long as our soul wants to follow the spirit of god, we will have eternal life. I think I got it, thanks.

Mathew 19:16-22 gives a classic example of a rich man asking Jesus about obtaining eternal life. Jesus starts out with the commandments and concludes, "go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven, and come, follow Me". "But when the young man heard this, he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property".

The point being he "thought" he was keeping the commandments..but he was really breaking several of them...that's the point of that passage! That no one is justified by the law but all need to come to faith in Christ to be justified!

wait, does that mean? that rich man sold his property? The only indication is that he went away grieved because there's so much work that he put in but he decide to value jesus's command more because jesus is the one that can lead him to eternal treasure in heaven.

The point being he did not keep the first commandment to put God above all things and clearly he was coveting these things..which is what Jesus was doing...using the law for its purpose...to make all guilty before God that they might turn to Him and his grace!

Right there must be a new tree planted by God!

Oooh, he left because he didn't consider jesus as lord. the first commandment was "I am the Lord thy God.", so this translates to "follow me, and do what I say. I love you that it would be advisable for you to listen to me because I know what would make you happy". He cared too much about his material possession so he left. If he sold the material possesion, he would get the treasure in heaven which is a lot more value than his material possession.

Right..he like the Pharisees "thought" they were keeping the law but they really was not being honest!
