Christian Morality Decline

This is a bit of a pessimistic thread, but one worth discussing.
Over the past many years, Christians have been swayed by the rhetoric of those who have stood against what Christianity has taught -- the sanctity of marriage, the dignity of life, forgiveness, etc.

Which part of Christian moral law has been vastly declining within Christian culture?

Which part????

ALL of it my brother!

Personally, and from inside observation, it is my opinion that the reason behind the moral decline of the USA begins in the pulpits of
Christian churches where preachers have become positive motivators like Joel Osteen instead of preachers like Billy Sunday and Billy Graham.

The great men of days gone by, PREACHED SIN and its ramifications on humanity and let the Holy Spirit convict and move men to confess and repent THEIR sins and be saved.

In the last 50 years or so we have allowed preachers to teach their own thoughts and to water down the Word of God s as to make it more acceptable to the World view of opinions. As a result we have now have a bunch of MAKE Believers instead of Born Again Believers. These make believers have allowed unscrupulous leaders to manipulate the masses and become millionaires at others expense.

Don't get me wrong, I love stuff just like everyone else and God has blessed me greatly in the income department. But I never had to and never will compromise of the Word of God to make a church congregation feel more "comfortable".

When a church membership becomes "comfortable" you have a dead church!!!!!

A preacher of God's Word has a job to do and it is the same one Jesus took on. "Bring a sword that divides".

Anyway.......you asked and that is my perception because I am old enough to remember when preaching was preaching instead of personal motivational conversations.

Very nicely put.

I'm also wondering, though your answer is 100% valid and I totally agree, if anything has been slipping more and more in response to the culture against Christian morality. Just based on observation. Though I do think all of it is.

Very difficult question my brother. If I had to choose one above all the rest I would probably say RESPECT.

I must tell you that my opinion can be changed however.

In totality, I have seen that people have lost RESPECT for the Bible. When that happens the next thing to take place is the rejection of the hero of the Bible who is in fact the Lord Jesus Christ.

When the Lord Jesus is minimized, we have taken a turn down the road of a dead end street.

When we lose RESPECT for the Bible and Christ it is only natural that we will then lose RESPECT for our parents, spouses, political leaders, military personnel, teachers, policemen, pastors and everyone who has a position of authority.

What is your opinion my brother?

I'm not sure. What you said is certainly food for thought, but allow me to play devil's advocate...

Many Christian groups, may they be denominations or certain parishes, have fallen into defending certain acts by using the Scriptures. Take the Episcopalian Church for example. While they do submit to the overall Christian doctrine, on a very large scale, their diocese have begun defending both abortion and gay marriage with Scriptural references. Of course they are misinterpreting, but I don't doubt their sincerity for the Bible is false -- the problem is misinterpretation. Though I also wouldn't rule out many of them knowingly twisting it to gain leverage.

But I think it's possible for people to respect the Bible but mistranslate the teachings found in it.

May be definition of what is moral law is declining? Probably, Christians are trying to change the standards itself.. So we want to make look ourselves moral not by meeting standards, but by lowering the standards..

Are you sure that it is "misinterpretation"????

I submit to all that it was by blatant rejection of the Word of God.

Matthew 19 : 3-6 (KJV):...........
3 "The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

He who made them at the beginning “made them male and female”: In quoting Genesis 1:27, Jesus indicated first that God has made men and women different, and that God is the one who joins men and women together in marriage. With this statement reported by Matthew, Jesus has asserted God’s authority over marriage; it is God’s institution, not man’s – so it is fair to say that GOD's rules apply in marriage - NOT any church's warped interpretation or lack of proper understanding.

Since the sin of homosexuality is clearly defined by the Word of God, I submit that it was a thought out rejection because that is what they wanted to do. When that is done, that means they have rejected the Word of God which in essence means they have no RESPECT for what God said.

By no means do I think your answer is wrong. I think it's clear in MANY cases, it would be blatant disrespect of God's teachings. That's what I meant by a deliberate twist in order to submit to a non-Christian agenda.

But I think many who do teach that some things are OK--divorce, abortion, etc--are sincerely doing it because they are convinced it is an extension of Christian love. I wouldn't for a second say that it is OK just because their intentions are good because even good intentions could go against objective morality. But I'm only suggesting that some who do this aren't intending to sin, but are just very misguided on what God taught.

Most of us have misinterpreted the Holy text at some point. Maybe not all of it and perhaps not the overall Christian doctrine, but some of it at least.

I think that's what many have done. Probably for different reasons. Maybe some lower the morality bar out of convenience. Maybe some lower it to be more inclusive to those who don't want to give up some of their sins. Maybe some lower it because of sheer corruption.

Hello and I hope you are well. I believe it's a general decline in many Christian circles due to a lot of the changes in the world as we know it today, I believe it's widely thought, now that Christians are in fact the most persecuted people in the world today and our beliefs are questioned much more agressively than ever. However, just because the world is changing I don't believe it's an excuse for any Christian assembly or group to dilute the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Apostles and early church operated in the same conditions of agression and challenge often with a far greater danger to their message yet, most remained faithful and true to the Lord.

The depravity of man in his sins is something that has never changed since the beginning of time. Even though technology has advance greatly and our ability to travel anywhere in the world, or communicate anywhere through the internet, yet man remains the same in his sinfulness. The world is changing but man has remained the same. We think because of our great smarts in devising such great toys we are some how more holy and better than before. The decline in Christianity is in our refusal to not compromise the truth because it can, and does cause friction. After all, can not we all just get along? There will always be resistance to the truth, and sometimes it will cause us some discomfort from time to time. Jesus said he did not come to bring peace, but a sword and division.
