Does Anyone Else Love The Old Hymns?

I think the modern worship songs are useless. Give me the old hymns and the Psalms in the Bible.

Modern worship songs lack meat. And, speaking as a guy, they're too feminine. I think modern worship songs also tend to be too much about the worshiper and not enough about God.

Give me "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty..." over "I worship you. I give you praise. I adore you..."
I agree with what you say but there are a few of the many modern worship songs that really do lift Him up. You have to search high and low for them. Selling cd's is so trendy these days. One of my favorite modern type songs is captivate us by watermark. The whole song is a play on words pretty much but it is truely a praise and worship song. I think alot of the newer songs are to teach the younger generation, kind of guide them on what to do as well as the whole pop genere is more appealing to them than hymns. I remember being a young child in church thinking, man this music is awful, I hope when I grow up I dont get boring like these people. Now that I am older I really like the hymns.

I tend to prefer the older hymns. I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say and How Great Thou Art are a couple of my favourites

I seem to have been singing When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder at home fair bit lately. I've had a play around with it this morning. I've not done a very good job (in part struggling with Audacity) but I'll leave it at this. Here's my (I suppose) folky version.

Have a wonderfully blessed and happy weekend everyone.

Thanks for them.

Just a comment and not a complaint. I prefer Vox Dilecti to what I usually refer to as "The Star Of County Down" tune for I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say.

Amazing Grace is the most powerful song in our times, because its the most biblical song we have.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall profess, within the vail,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Chorus:
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

I agree with you Mitspa. (HUGS) One of the best voices to ever deliver one of my favorite hymns.

I just had to throw this in. It's one of my favorites just because it embodies the spirit that can move the most callous hearts due to the resonance of the truth of our God.

Amazing grace is another song that gets me teary eyed and all choked up when I try to sing it. People in church that dont know me well always ask me why are you crying, I just tell them he who is forgiven much, loves much.

Amazing Grace is so awesome that there's a hymn that refers to that hymn. It's called "Amazing Grace shall be my song of Grace."

I know that hymn. But it's called, He Looked Beyond My Faults. It's also known as, Amazing Grace shall always be my song of praise.
