Can there ever be a "clear reading of scripture"? Or only multiple interpretations?Is it wrong to read and believe the clear reading of scripture? How does one reach a place of confidence in Gods Word?
Eph 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
"Truth" is another word that I think must be largely subjective within Christianity. I think the word "truth" is used interchangeably with "faith" and probably should not be.True faith requires a certain confidence in the truth, in fact one might say that "saving" faith requires "confidence".
Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Well it takes a level of study and seeking to reach a point of confidence, but just because folks have different understandings, does not mean that those who are diligent and honest cannot know and be confident in the truth.Can there ever be a "clear reading of scripture"? Or only multiple interpretations?
I feel this is why we have so many Bible translations and denominations within Christianity.
Jesus said "you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" and gave many ways to know those who have and walk in the truth...So again it takes a certain confidence in Gods word to enter into the truth a see the fruit of that truth."Truth" is another word that I think must be largely subjective within Christianity. There is not one single passage in the Bible, not a single one, where I do not consider that another possibility is being communicated besides the one I suspect. Also context is supremely important - and when I see people stealing certain lines from scripture which rely so heavily on what was said immediately before them or right after, but taken alone to have their meanings made more vague, all I want to do is return to the source to see the full picture of what has been said.Jesus said "you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" and gave many ways to know those who have and walk in the truth...So again it takes a certain confidence in Gods word to enter into the truth a see the fruit of that truth.
When Christians deadlock over issues I think there should be room for doubt on both sides.Well it takes a level of study and seeking to reach a point of confidence, but just because folks have different understandings, does not mean that those who are diligent and honest cannot know and be confident in the truth.
Well you are allowed to have your understanding and you should allow that others have through faith and patient study come to places of confidence in the truth that you may not be able to accept? Its ok if you have your questions, but because you have questions and doubts, they do not limit those who have answers and confidence in the truth they have received.There is not one single passage in the Bible, not a single one, where I do not consider that another possibility is being communicated besides the one I suspect. Well I allow that you may feel that some issues are not clear, but you should allow that I and others have confidence that some issues are very clear and that the Word of God can be trusted in such a way that we can have confidence in the evident truth of the words that have been written to us who know and love the truth.When Christians deadlock over issues I think there should be room for doubt on both sides.
The point is, how can anyone NOT have questions? The Bible isn't a book where the author is handy to give a phone call to to ask for a simple clarification. Add to that the passage of a lot of time, the translation, the interpretation, the context both historical and verbal...Well you are allowed to have your understanding and you should allow that others have through faith and patient study come to places of confidence in the truth that you may not be able to accept? Well there are many questions and the greatness of Christ demands that we who seek Him are always learning more and more about Him and His beauty, but because we are learning does not mean we cannot be confident in that which has been shown to us already. We have Gods word written to us and anyone who is diligent to study can come to some sure places of truth from which other truth is laid upon...In fact line is laid upon line and precept is laid upon precept...But the Word of God must be trusted to build the foundation upon which deeper truth is laid upon.The point is, how can anyone NOT have questions? If you are confident in your beliefs, please present your case and reasons (using Scripture IN CONTEXT) in a loving manner. That way those who doubt or believe otherwise may learn.Well I allow that you may feel that some issues are not clear, but you should allow that I and others have confidence that some issues are very clear and that the Word of God can be trusted in such a way that we can have confidence in the evident truth of the words that have been written to us who know and love the truth.
What question or issue of scripture is being presented, other than a general discussion of the confidence of the scriptures and the ABSOLUTE right that believers have to know and believe the truth? I have the truth and will boldly declare the truth where I have the chance..if that offends you or others? Grow up and get over it! I DONT CARE!If you are confident in your beliefs, please present your case and reasons (using Scripture IN CONTEXT) in a loving manner. That way those who doubt or believe otherwise may learn.
To say 'I have the truth and you don't' while just quoting Scripture without context doesn't work
I was talking about when you are discussing topics in other forums.What question or issue of scripture is being presented, other than a general discussion of the confidence of the scriptures and the ABSOLUTE right that believers have to know and believe the truth?
