Little Children

Matthew 18:2-4 NIV

2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

What does Jesus mean when he says become like little children?

Oh, pick me, I have this answer. One evening my young son fell asleep on the couch. I picked him up and carried him to his bed and put him to sleep. He did not wake up because he knew he was in his father's arms and safe. God spoke to me in that moment and said, you need to trust me, as your son trusts you and rest in my arms. Oh to have the simple faith of a child.

Do kids ever worry about how they are going to pay their bills? or what they are going to eat, or even live. They simply trust, and never ever think about these things. As Jesus said do not worry about what you are going to eat, or wear. These things the father knows we have need of, and we can not add any height to our stature by worrying, so why do it?
Total freedom from fear of failure or death, only rejoicing in the peace of God.

I like to think of babies, until they're tainted by the world, as having just come from God and so they still glow like Moses did when he came down the mountain from visiting with God, Ecc 12:7, and are innocently full of joy and love. Kids are taught to hate.

To be honest, I came to realize the strong meaning of this verse only after becoming a father.. I will never forget.. The same verse my pastor used for my kid's first birthday.. He talked about the same thing.. I have been learning so much through my daughter..

We talk about faith, joy, trust, innocence, obedience, etc.. Everything that Bible calls us to be, is clearly exhibited in a child. My daughter is going to be 3 years old.. She has a very good sense of time.. She will start looking out for my car from 4PM itself.. I reach home around 5:30 to 6:00PM.. The moment I enter house, I have to lift her up and start playing with her.. While I play with her, she is filled with so much joy.. She forgets everything else.. Nothing else in her mind except pure joy of being with me.. Do I have similar joy when I am in presence of Lord? Do I seek him with such a heart in my prayers? So many times my mind wanders during prayer..

Same kind of thing goes with every attribute of a child.. Faith is another key aspect..
