I'm a New Christian - What now?

I just recently converted to Christianity. Like, extremely recently. Anyway - someone told me that I have to change certain things about me now. When I asked them what things they just told me I have to learn to be a Christian and do things like learn to forgive others etc.

Well, I have spent my life trying to do things like this already... Perhaps not good enough I don't know...

Anyway. I suppose I'm asking... now that I'm Christian. What am I supposed to do now? How does one learn how to be a Christian?

Read the New Testament and get involved with a church. I would also try and get involved with a Bible Study if you can. Granted God will teach you through the Holy Spirit, but a Christian Mentor is a big help during the good and difficult times.

Hi and congrats!

Your statement 'converting to Christianity' needs to be rephrased as the 'day you decided to follow Jesus'.

The first thing I would do is attend a meeting on the basic principles and doctrines of Christ mentioned in Heb 6.

Here is some scripture that should help you.

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: ''Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me''.

Rom 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit''.

John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Heb 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

I joined this site as a newby so I know the feeling. Welp I think you are on a good start, the Lord obviously led you here. I agree with the other posts, read scripture, go to church, fellowship with Christians who can answer those tough questions, etc... You'll be busy trust me haha. Don't worry though, it's cool that you are trying to figure out what to do next it shows initiative which is a good sign. I'd definitely pray about what to do next for sure, and um I guess just remember everyone is different but the Lord is leading ya so don't stress. Idk if you're stressing, that's just how I am so I decided to spit that out anyways. Stress is a waste of time believe me.

Congrats! How did you become a Christian?

Well, that probably a long story - and I'm really unsure how to describe it so much. I started having dreams and visions. Anyway, in one vision, had a feeling, more than anything, that I needed to get some things right spiritually and was running out of time.

I couldn't think what was wrong with me spiritually, or what it was I might need to be fixing, so I just tried to do better, but every so often, I would hear something, old doubts about God and religion would rise up and be unsatisfied. As I searched for the answers privately to my doubts, I kept running into Christians (which may have been partly my fault), and sometimes I would read a thing and it would spark something inside which would cause me to search harder.

In the end, one thing led to another I suppose but Jesus says He has been with me all my life.

Thank you for showing me those. I...... don't have any words. Just wanted you to know. All of it... all of it... is true. Not true like a little true... but its TRUE.

I would definitely spend time in prayer asking Jesus to lead me and teach me. He can speak to you through the Holy Spirit, and He will often use other Christians to help you see things.

Please remember though that any changes He wants made in your life will not be through your own power...it will be His power that changes you.

When you sincerely seek His guidance, He will transform your thinking when you read His Word; create a new and pure heart in you; and forever be your Advocate with the Father in Heaven.

Follow Jesus Christ- no man, no 'church', no denomination, no cult, no (man-made) religion: Worship, pray, read your Bible, fellowship with Bible believing Christians, fast pray, serve in some sort of ministry, repeat...because you love the LORD and desire to please Him...

You will grow at the pace you need too..God will ensure that. Just don't give up. Obedience to the Word is our baby steps in faith...

We have all thought of quitting at one point or another-but the Holy Spirit just won't let you when He is with you. God may let you have a spiritual void every now again-but that is not His fault....

Let the Joy of the Lord come through you.

That is the thing about being Christian. There is no list of specific things you must do after you become Christian. You have the ability to let Christ flow through you if you don't resist it. I recommend reading the book of John and then Romans. Look out for the needs of others before yourself.
Love God and love others. All of Christianity hinges on those two commandments.

First I would like to say, Welcome home, Chris! Next I will give you the advice my husband gave me when I came back to Christ. Read your Bible, the Holy Spirit will guide you in the changes that He wants you to make. Do not try and live up to the standards of other, as God's standards are the only ones that matter. Remember and never forget, you are loved and forgiven.
