Confused about judging?

Hi there,
please can you help me out with this?

I read that we are not to judge others, and since reading that I keep trying not to judge other people,

But when I see somebody sin, I worry that I am judging them because I think "oh they just sinned" so I need some help please, how do you not judge others?

""Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned." Luke 6:37

I keep worrying that I am judging people, because for example if somebody I know isn't a Christian, I may think "oh there not a Christian so that's not good", so does that then mean I'm judging them? Sorry I am so confused about this and I don't want to judge anyone anymore :( I am trying to view people as if I didn't know that they sinned so I'm not judging them anymore... it's so confusing!

Thanks :)

In the answer to your question, you have to look at people not objectionably.
Try to see the good qualities in others moreover the bad. Granted...its harder, but it will help.
Pray for those who are displaying negative vibes.

There is a constant mantra playing in the life of the church, "Thou shalt not judge!" But that isn't exactly true.
To fully understand the idea of judging others, you need to read the full context of what scripture says on the subject.

Matt7v1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

This explains why judging others can backfire! If you walk in judgement, then God has to apply the same standard to you and your life!

3“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

However, if you first set out to deal with things in your own life, ie. first remove the plank out of your own eye, then you will be a fit person to help others with specks in their eyes.

Thus, as the above scripture makes clear, there are times when we should judge, but we must first judge ourselves.

Ooh I see, that makes sense now :) thank you so much :) I thought that was right but I was just not too sure, so it's okay to for example if you see somebody you know sin, to tell them about Jesus and say not to sin again? or is that judging? Thanks! :)

Ah, that's slightly different. Being either good or bad is hardly relevant to non believers is it? Even if they stop sinning it doesn't make them into children of God does it?. If I wanted to encourage a non believer, I would not start by telling them they are sinners. Why should they care?
Telling people how bad they are won't draw them to God, if anything the reverse is true. The majority will rightfully point to the church and say, "What a bunch of hypocrites!"
In contrast it is far better to talk about the loving and forgiving character of God because it is that which draws them, not condemnation.
Romans2v4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?

If you read the gospels, you will never see Jesus walking around condemning everyone for their sins. He exuded loving kindness and that made the thieves, prostitutes, and common people flock to him in humility.
Obviously Jesus also had harsh words to say of those who, like the Pharisees etc., proudly rejected his loving kindness.

The bible commands to not compare yourself or to compare other people to anyone for any reason. If they are doing something sinful, and your not doing it too, then you can judge by helping them realize it's wrong. Jesus taught to not judge hypocritically by saying to someone to not do something while your doing it too.

Let me add one part to @Francis Drake that when dealing with people, LOVE them. Love covers a multitude of sins. If you tell someone "STOP SINNING!" They'll despise you because of their sin. To love them isn't to ignore their sin, but to show God's love for them and the command to stop sinning. Even Christians don't do that sadly. We focus on sin sin sin but Jesus paid for all sins with His love. Love them, show them love then show them Love (God) and when they accept Him as their Savior they'll be free of sin and have the ability to cease from sin, one step at a time through the Holy Spirit. God doesn't want behavioural modification. He wants a heart transformation; a relationship. Who you hang out with determines what you're going to do. If you hang out with bikers you're going to even learn how to bike. Hang out with painters you're going to learn how to paint. Hang out with sinners you're going to do their sins. Hang out with Jesus and you will become more like Jesus. If you've never painted, will you be a Picasso after two lessons? Then why do we, as the Body of Christ, think someone can cease from sin after two days? Each and every one of the vices we have must be dealt with - this is the wheat-tears story. Don't condone sin, love them and show them God doesn't like what they're doing. Treat sinners like "other" people's kids. Treat Christians sinners like your own kids. The sinners are ignorant of Jesus. Christians are ignorant of God's way to perfection. This is why Jesus came 100% as a man to live only as man, so we can follow in His footsteps through the Holy Spirit in obedience. Then we'll cease from sin and not before, Heb 6, 2Pet 2:14.

I remember reading now that we are meant to leave all Judging to God, so we shouldn't judge anyone, it's just if you see someone sin, is it judging to tell them that they are sinning? this is where I feel confused.. so sorry it's complicated to explain, thanks :)

No, I believe that you must inform others of the word of God and the deliverance from sin.
God is great and people should know that.

Alex, it sounds like you are still desperately itching to tell others about their sins?
You asked the same question in post no6.
I then gave a detailed answer in post No7,
Abdicate reinforced it in post No9.
Plus Fish of Faith's.
You then start the process all over again?

May I suggest that you just reread this thread starting back at the beginning. Collectively it has the answers.

Something i would like to add is that when we are constantly judging someone...that is what we are renewing our minds with...so its easier for us to trip up and do it too. Our minds are on sin instead of Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.

We are not the great farther we have no right to judge that is god job are job is to witness to outhers about the great farther and the great brother and great spirit and the heaven teach peace love and brotherhood. God bless

We fall short of glory of god. Discernment is seeing the truth. Many things needs discernment but judgment is God's job. Because we have the great farther we are all children of god and as children of god we are one family that makes them brother and sister's together in christ (yashua) as for those h

I think its ok to warn people if they going the wrong way. But leave the judging up to God. How can we punish people anyway? We dont want them to be punished. Did Jesus ever throw a stone at anyone? No but he did warn people about Gods judgement day. This is because He loves them and doesnt want anyone to perish.

It's not what one scripture says, it's what ALL scripture says. You have quoted one verse out of context. the context began in verse 27, and that changes the meaning quite a bit.

Luke 6:27 King James Version (KJV)
27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

1 Corinthians has a lot to say about judgment. The word appears 18 times.

1 Corinthians 6:2-3 King James Version (KJV)

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
