Can a pastor go and minister to a single women?

Is there scripture supporting that a pastor should go with his wife to minister to a single women, or to a married women the husband should be present?

Yes, I was trying to say this to my husband, but he wants scripture that says a pastor should take his wife when ministering to a woman.

There was a pastor in Indiana we used to listen to, Jack Hyles I think, and he said when he was asked to go to a young woman's house the Spirit told him to take someone with him. When he rang the doorbell, she opened the door and jumped into his arms wearing a bikini and her friend snapped a photo. She had determined to make him worldly like they were. Because photoshop didn't exist then, the witness was in the photo too and made their attempts useless. Even in the office, I don't like being with a woman alone just because it could become a she-said/he-said issue. But I trust the Lord will be with me as my Witness :)

Our pastor, and all our deacons will only visit a woman if their wife accompanies them. There are some very rare occasions where a woman will come by the church with a crisis while only the church staff is there. But even then the secretary is right outside the office and the door is cracked.

If people want to make a case about you and try to destroy your testimony, they will. Our responsibility is to a avoid situations that give them "evidence" for their claims.

In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered. -- Titus 2:3-5

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deaconess of the church in Cenchreae. -- Romans 16

Scripture provides instructions for older women to do the hands-on pastoring of single women in the congregation. Modern congregational hierarchies ignore scripture on this matter at their own peril. If they don't want to call these women "deacons" or "teachers," fine...but the Holy Spirit did not put this into scripture for nothing. They should make sure there are women mature in the faith handling it.

My one elder likes to quote how Joseph ''fled''.

Gen 39: 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

House maintenance? :)

Paul never made a rule on this as it is dead obvious.

In Paul's day, it was obvious because that's how civilization worked. There was never a time that a man would be found alone with a woman who wasn't his wife, his daughter, his sister, his slave, or his mistress. And any woman left alone with a man would be considered the last if not one of the first four.

I don't know why a pastor would think any differently. Even the unbelieving world knows a person in authority can't afford to be found alone with a woman who is not related to him.

It does not have to be you per se but it should be with another spiritual leader in the church at least. I would hope that he would not resist a request like that. I am a single man who is going to start bible studies with a single lady, and even I will not go alone into those studies. I will either bring another God fearing male or female into the study with me.

Guys, I agree with you 100%. Men must never be allowed alone with a woman.

As Christians it is an even more severe rule as sharing spiritual truths opens the person up to you / they drop all defenses and give you impeccable trust.

I remember Dr. Hyles very well. He was a wonderful pastor and at one time, his buss ministry in Hammond was larger than the school district in that city.

Specifically, here is no certain Scripture. However we all know that God gave us a brain and through that brain we can come to and make certain logical decisions and this is one of those.

There is no specific Scripture that says we are not to drive while drunk, But God gave us that brain so as to be able to make that decision.

There is no specific Scripture that says we are to kill our dog when he urinates on the floor. But there is that brain thing that tells us what we are to do and how we are to act.

the person who asked is not a christian and they take their brain and say all kinds of crazy things, but thanks :)

Females need to minister one to another.

Titus 2:3-5
3 Bid the older women similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble,

4 So that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children,

5 To be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kindhearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands, that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited).

Hello and I hope you are well. I didn't quite have time to read every response so apologies if I'm parroting someone else's answer. The main scripture verses I use come from the Book of Timothy and the Book of Titus as these Epistles were written and received by church overseers and as I'm sure you know, Paul may have wrote them but Jesus breathed them however the one verse which I refer back to is to abstain from the appearance of evil (1st Thess 5:22). A Pastor, Elder,Deacon etc etc are called to blameless (not sinless) and to have a good report among the unbelievers (1st Timonthy 3) so it's better to avoid situations which put the Pastor, the local church and the Gospel of Christ at risk of blame.

It may be difficult for some to understand but when you are ministering to others face-to-face on a regular basis you find that not all individuals have your well-being at the forefront of their mind and some can be very emotional or angry so, I tend to take every situation at it's merits and act accordingly. When you've experienced how evil some people can be you take the full advice of Jesus Christ; to be lead by His Spirit and walk in His wisdom....

I hope this has added to your thoughts, blessings....
