The site was sadly down for a period yesterday. Jeff our Admininstrator is aware of the problem and is working on it.

About exchange links. I am no expert but I have been told that Google now has a policy of penalising link exchanges. They only like one way links. This has been mentioned in numerous serach engine news letters and so for my own site I make it a policy not to do a link exchange. We link to numerous sites and are grateful that many other sites link to us but they are all one way.

I don't fully understand what is meant. I was only talking about one way links... in toherwords, Christian Forum Site provides an image, a link and a description. I post that on my site and they, in turn post what I give them on their site. We share links to each other therefore promoting each site at the same time.

That is something Jeff would need to decide. I will draw his attention to this thread.

I was talking about the idea that was popular until recently of getting sites to put a link to you in exchange for you putting a link back to them. In other words a link exchange.
This lead to so called link farms.
It was originally because Google gave a higher rating to sites who had lots of other sites linked to them.
Google became aware of the exchange practice and introduced the policy of downgrading sites which had lots of link exchanges. They do still give credit for one way links to a site.
Hope that is not too muddled.
My so called brain is foggy as I have just driven over 400 miles.

I understand about the driving thing... when my family was living in Louisiana and I in Oklahoma, I would have to drive about 400, one way, to see them...

Yeah all I was meaning was one way links, I take what they want as a link on my site, they take what I give them and we promote each's site on our own site... one way linkage...

I have asked Jeff to look at this thread so the ball is in his court.

To clarify what I was meaning see

Here is a quote of the first part:
Link schemes

Your site's ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site's ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:
Links intended to manipulate PageRank
Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

Personally, I do not see link exchanging is a bad thing. I mean, we are to support each other, Christians I mean. By putting links to each site on our own sites we support each other by bringing others to each site.

I enjoy being apart of this forum, as I hope others are enjoying mine. I would think that this would not be a bad setup expecially since it is a personal request and not an automated email of some sort.

Either way, my main goal is to help others and to bring those who see the site closer to Christ. Either my way of a personal message of salvation or by showing the Christ like love toward others.

Anyway, I assure everyone that this isn't a scam or something to somehow damage sites and those that visit them. This is simply a request to share resources.

God bless,
Johnathan

My brother I never doubted your good intentions for a second.
I know your hearts desire is to serve the Lord!!!
I have always been impressed by your posts.
I was not suggesting that your motives were anything less than 100% pure but I just wanted to sound a warning. As I said at the start I am no expert and I was only giving my understanding of the potential problem. Google is so powerful and falling into their bad books is not going to be helpful to any Christian site.

Sorry about that Housesitter,

I was not trying to imply that you were stating that I had any bad intentions... just stating what my intentions were.

God bless,
Johnathan

Jonathan and Beloved, We do have a link exchange program here: http://www.christianforumsite.com/topsites/
It's free to join but you'll have to include the code the program generates to be ranked.

Links on the home page are reserved for sponsors because thats the main source of external funding for our community and it won't be fair on my part to give it away free. :)

Also, I tried to access the forum a lot of yesterday and was unable to due to a database error. Was anyone else getting that?

That was my mistake. :D I changed some settings to increase the speed of the site but instead the site stopped responding. So I had to revert the settings back to normal.

Greetings Jeff,

I notice that all are Christian sites but my husband sell books and other things related to classic cars.

Is that OK?
