The abomination of desolation?

I have been trying to find out exactly what this means for quite a few years. I have
asked many people and no one seems to know. Any ideas here?

I recently saw a YouTube video in which the poster said it was related to Vatican II and the changes in the church altars.

Who knows? The Book of Revelation and the prophecies are so obscure and unclear, it's impossible to really know for sure.

Oooo. I can not watch much of that. He starts quoting Ellen White.

He does, but that's because he and I believe she is a prophet (although she never made that claim of herself). Notwithstanding, you can ignore the quotes and pretty much substantiate the argument from scripture. He quotes her because his audience is SDA primarily.

With that said, the article you linked to is pretty fair vs most of the more slanderous ones out there. The authors reasons for rejecting her though simply boils down to "what I believe is right, what she believes is wrong " therefore she is a false prophet. However, if you are humble enough to surrender your personal opinions for a thus saith the Lord, the Holy Spirit will guide you unto all truth. This is what the Jews failed to do in the first century. They put tradition ahead of God's word.

But I digress, I do not want to hijack the thread. If you want to discuss this more, from scripture, just PM me:) God bless and Happy 4th if your in the US!

Blessings,

Blessings,

If the book of Revelation is obscure, why is the name of the book Revelation? Why is it even written? Trust me it is not obscure. It is only obscure to those who had not light on the subject, or those who refuse light and/or follow a man made interpretation (private interpretation),

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)
Matthew 24:15

While Luke speaks of this event a little differently stating
22) For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23) But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
24) And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive, into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Luke 21:22-24

For many centuries the Protestant Churches taught a historical view of Revelations, and most Protestant Churches held to this view till the last century and a half. At which time the pre trib rapture became a new teaching, although some claim that it has been taught by early Christians, most agree it is a must later teaching. This view is call futurism, it teaches that all of Revelation is to happen in the future after the time of the Gentiles is fulfilled, some teach that time is between the 69th and 70th week mentioned in Daniel 9:24-27. While there are many other view on how the Book of Revelation should be understand for now just deal with thee two. The historical view is that the Book of Revelation teaches the History of the Church and how it affect the World. While there are many different teaching on these views, nearly all who follow the historical view agree that Revelations 9:1-12 speaks of mohammed and the rise of islam, while Revelations 9:13-21 speaks of the ottoman empire; along with Revelation 10 speaking of the Bible being given to the common people during the Reformation.

More importantly with the teaching of futurism, a prophecy which up till that time Bible Scholar taught was fulfilled by the death and resurrection of Christ, and 3 and a half years after this, the proclaiming of the Gospel to the Gentiles, was completed in 490 years and not a 483 years period to complete the first 69 weeks and a big gap of time of the Gentiles followed by the 70th week. Let me explain here that Daniel 9:24-27 speaks of a 70 week prophecy which scholars agree of 490 days and than translate a day as a year, so that the prophecy speaks of the First Coming of the LORD Jesus Christ. Now the historical view teaches that all 70 weeks have been fulfill. But that the fulfilling of the abomination of desolation starts right after the final 70th week, and is finished when Rome destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem in 70AD. While futurism teaches that in a future 70th week, the anti-Christ shall come and make a covenant with Israel and break in the middle of the week, and thru bring about the abomination of desolation.

But as many Protestant from the pass have taught, we see that Jesus Christ came and offer Himself as the Final and once and for all sacrifice for us sinful humans who had no way to be reconciled to God because of our sins.
14) For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15) Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that He had said before,
16) This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will write them;
17) And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18) Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:14-18

I underline the word Covenant because this is the New Testament for Testament is another word for Covenant that given for us by Christ Blood, the Everlasting Covenant Hebrews 13:20, the Promise made to Abraham before the Old Covenant/Testament was given to Moses; is the New Covenant, Galatians 3:15-29. According to futurism the death and Resurrection of Christ ends the 69th week.. But those of us who hold to an historical view hold that the beginning of Christ ministry is the beginning of the 69th week, for we are told Christ/Messiah would come in the 69th week see Daniel 9:25. And we are told by Luke that Jesus was 30 at the beginning of His Ministry, Luke 3:21-23; we also know that Jesus ministry lasted three and half years. Now we also see that He shall confirm the Covenant with many for one week, and in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and oblations to cease, see Daniel 9:27. Futurism teaches this is the anti Christ, but Historicism teaches that the He is none other than Jesus Christ.

After 3 and a half years Jesus told His disciples at the Last Supper which happen at the Feast of Passover and Unleavened Bread, to take Bread which was His Body and gave them a Cup calling it His Blood for the New Testament and let us remember that Testament and Covenant are the same thing, Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:15-22 and I Corinthians 11:22-26. So that we see that Jesus and the middle of the 70th year offer Himself for the New Covenant. Now we see that the Covenant is only spoken of for one week in Daniel 9:27 but that is not because it is not an everlasting Covenant but because as we read Daniel 9:24-27 we see that this 70 weeks deals with just the Jews

I've always read this in thessalonians. We're it speaks of the the day of the Lord. To my understanding it is speaking of the anti christ. I believe that the coming of the Lord is not until we see this man make his entrance into the world. Just to clarify i dont mean the birth of the man i mean the beginnings of his reign.Be it thru territorial/ church take over/political power. Im not sure in what form. I simply understand that once this occurs then and only then will the church be take.

when the antichrist takes over Babylon/Iraq and invades Israel,
and turkey under the false prophet invades the EU
the UN will invade Israel to stop him,
then President Trump will sign a 7 year peace deal,
but half way through due to the 2 prophets speaking out the beast will invade Israel again
and put up the 'robot' image which the world made [in japan]
then there will be nuclear war destroying a third of the cities of the world
that will take place in trumps 2nd term about 2023....

or not.

Abomination's definition is a thing that causes hatred and disgust. Desolation is a state of complete emptiness
Who could cause those types of feelings ?
It also states "when Ye therefore shall see"
Which I believe he is speaking to the church. We will get to see who he is.
if we look at 2Thessalonians we are also given what will occur prior to any of these things happening.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Thessalonians 2:3

In 2 Thessalonians we also see we are given more a description.
"Man of sin, the son of perdition"
The description given is man
And we know Jesus Christ is the Son of God
You have to ask yourself who is the complete opposite of God.

And Daniel gives us more of a description on what "he" will do
Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate Daniel 9:27

God Bless
