1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19.Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20. you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

If we are not here for our self, but for the One who sent us, then who are we, and why are we here?

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of hisgoodness, and the work of faith with power:
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

To Love , Honor and Share the Love of God with all mankind.

Thanks Jim.
Great answer for why we are here. To Love , Honor and Share the Love of God with all mankind.

Is there anything more to why we are here?

What about who we are?

Who are we? We are children of God. We became children because we were bought at a price by God. The price paid at Cross. I think Jim already gave a great scripture to show why we are here :)

1 John 3:1 - See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

If you were foreknown before the foundation of the world then that says who you are and where you come from.
As for why. God only knows but it seems couple of reasons would be for the development of character and to enhance our ability to worship.

Interesting thought: Why did Lucifer fall?
If an eternal God is always in the making what could be the reason for character development?
God bless...

Great response.

If you were foreknown before the foundation of the world then that says who you are and where you come from...
This implies that we are from God.
Galatians 3:26. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
The Father exists in His Son, and the Son exists in his brothers and sisters (believers in His name, through Christ).

So, why are we here?
John 3:3
. Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again".
God is All. To our false-self, that ALL is inconceivable. Unfortunately our Adam and Eve nature keeps the inconceivable inconceivable. Our new nature, Christ nature, for those that have faith and believe (in His name), will start to conceive (by God's will via the Spirit of Truth) the inconceivable Truth.
The Father is conceived by the Son, and the Son is conceived by his brothers and sisters (believers in Christ). we see the kingdom of God (the inconceivable).
In that awareness we become like the Prodigal Son, returning home with unconditional humbleness and love for the Father.
God, the inconceivable becomes conceivable through who we are.

1 Peter 2:9

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." (NIV)

Given Peter was speaking to those Jews who were following Christ-- "Followers of the Way", the Church in Jerusalem; I believe this passage speaks to me personally about who I am in Christ and who we are in Christ.

I especially like the part about being, "God's special possession" which makes me think of the Body of Christ which I am a part of.

Best of all, we have been called out of darkness into His wonderful light, the light of Christ.

And, yes, along with others worshiping together in Christian community I declare His praises!

Hello my friend
Let me ask you then a question.
Do you then see a distinction between redemption and salvation?
Considering Paul's statement about judging men and angels.
Of course one can not be in the judgement and judge at the same time...
In the parable of the ten virgins five went in without judgement where the five without oil of course must be judged - but they were virgins...
One group was redeemed the other experienced salvation.
Are we on the same page?

Different people believe different things about this topic.
My understanding, for me alone, is
Christ willfully died (believer's redemption) so that the Truth of who we are, and why we are here, will be revealed/conceivable (salvation).
However, if the redeemed does not honor the salvation, then Christ's redemption becomes denied, and so too does the salvation.
To dishonor the salvation is to be untrue to who we are, and why we are here. The price for redemption became worthless, because the salvation is not accepted.

Romans 8:11-17
11. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation--but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.
13. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
16.The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
17. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Thank you!

A simple thesis simply stated.......

If we are not here for ourselves, but exist for the glory of God.......

and if we do not recognize this fact....

then we are lost
.

and that's me, hollering from the choir loft...

Mr Luke from your avatar you seem old enough to be familiar with the "Nicene Creed" and since this is a doctrinal thread, I thought you may be able to answer a questionI have concerning a doctrinal issue.
