Take up your cross?

Matthew 10:38
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Matthew 16:24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mark 10:21
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Luke 9:23
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 14:27
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

(Jesus)
John 19:17
And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

I understand what you are saying because that what I have been taught. But, now that I am older and reading the scriptures differently, I read that we are to deny ourselves (deny fleshly desires) and then take up the cross and follow Jesus. Luke and John use the word "bear" for both us and Jesus. Jesus was sacrificed on the cross, so, would I not be wrong in saying that we are making sacrifices dailey for God? I.E. giving up the first or last 15 minutes of a show to meditate on Jesus. I would be putting away my desire, making a sacrifice for Jesus.

What is ones "cross" in the verses that relate to taking up your cross and follow Jesus?

I was thinking it could mean Your Burdens, The Cares of This World, whatever you struggle with. But maybe your cross is your calling. You need to take up your daily calling and live it out for Christ. Like the disciples did.

"Your calling" is the cross. Yes I can agree with that because it makes since in each verse.

I believe each persons calling is discipleship. It's like what Jim said, we are to continue preaching the gospel. Just because the book of the bible concluded with the Book of Revelations does not mean that we are to stop preaching the truth / discipling others. I could write a book on everything I THOUGHT WAS RIGHT.... then God showed up and started teaching me what was really right...lol funny how that happens. We are so very fortunate and blessed to have the HS leading us daily and we are fortunate to be able to praise and worship God openly. So many people are persecute for their faith even still today. The Truth still needs to be told. It's an amazing journey learning together and growing in Christ together. It never hurts my feelings to hear someone else's opinion or even when someone disagrees with mine. Its very encouraging to learn from one other.

Iron Sharpens Iron. It's a very good thing.

And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].

And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and He said to him, You lack one thing; go and sell all you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come [and] accompany Me [walking the same road that I walk].

And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].

True that Jesus gave up His life for us, and we should be totally committing our lives unto Him and obeying His ways, and making sacrifices for Him, giving up maybe a whole show and committing that time to a sermon instead.

But The Father does not desire us to be so serious... that we're not in joy and peace in our lives. For joy is a fruit of the spirit... and an important part of us keeping and obtaining by faith the things He has for us. For joy also equals faith. Sadness and depression also equals doubt. For we should be rejoicing in what is bout to manifest. Mark 11:22-25 says believe you receive when you ask, you shall have it.

I prefer laughing and funny silly conversations. I laugh at work every day with my boss. He and I crack ourselves up daily. Then I laugh with my son and sisters and even my dogs laugh.. more like I think they are laughing at me. My family is a bunch of comedians... My son actually wants to try doing stand up comedy at the improve... His girl friend said to me OH, DEAR. PLEASE DONT LET HIM... lol we laugh every day always. I sure do hope it burns calories. I need to get this turkey off my butt.

Thought I would Google if laughing burns calories....
Using the results, the scientists then went on to calculate that just 15 minutes of laughter a day will burn 10 to 40 calories, depending on a person's weight and the intensity of thelaughter. That's enough to shift between 1 and 4lb a year.

Laughter certainly is good medicine for the body (Proverbs 17:22). I know I could use a lot more in my life :)

Can you make the connection for everyone ?
Just taught of something else. This can also be connected with Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Matthew 26:39
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, o my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as i will, but as thou wilt.

Jesus' calling was to die on the cross to save us to the Father.

What is ones "cross" in the verses that relate to taking up your cross and follow Jesus?

Roman Crucifixion was a punishment used specifically for violent insurrection against Rome.

Crucifixion was not used for typical civil or criminal matters. Murder was punished by beheading. Theft and other minor offenses were handled by beatings with a "reed".. This reed was like a 6 foot stalk of bamboo.....

Within this context - "Take up your cross" means be prepared to be part of the insurrection Jesus is leading against the ruler of this world... Along with this comes accepting the Consequences which accompanies insurrection.. One of which is that the ruler of this world will try to destroy us. Jesus declared this himself....
