Doctrine of the Bible

Another is that what is the difference between a preacher and a motivational speaker

It's the word that one gets excited about that works for them. People should get excited about the Lord and His Word, and what it promises... it helps them to hold onto what we hear and encourages our faith.... Then they can settle down and take notes or what have you... And grab ahold of the Word to chew on it and meditate on it and get it strong and solid within them. Understanding and knowledge produces strength in times when we have to patiently endure

I didnt say he wasnt but that some people would rather talk and quote about what he said and thought than share scripture directly from the Bible.

I do understand what your saying and have to agree with you. The men of God that The Father leads us to learn and glean from should cause us to understand His Word on a deeper level and cause us to quote the Bible (Word) over what someone else said. But then there are times when what our pastor (or men of God) said.. seems to stick in our minds to help us to better understand the Word... But then that leads us back to the Word itself. But when explaining it to someone else.. what the pastor said may help them also to understand what was written.. so maybe both can be quoted ?

I dont know who those people are sorry. Should I?

Those are saints who have dedicated their lives to the study of God's Word. Most have go on to heaven but them and more them just them are men who wrote, and taught others the truth of God's Word.

IF you do not know any of them, I would encourage you to use the search ability of your computer and read for yourself the life stories and their work for God on this earth.

When I was teaching the Bible in school we were taught it wasnt about us (teachers) it was about the word of God. We had to allow the holy spirit to work through us so he could shine his light. It wasnt about us we were just the messengers. We prayed that each and evey child would know the love of God through His word and our actions. Not our words, His word.

Surely you know that there have been millions of people who have done the very same thing as you have said and they went on to do even more. They spent years in Bible schools learning the deep things of God and they also were taught by the Holy Spirit. It is through those people that that we too can learn and grow.

But theres a special collar for that so we know the man of God isnt doing it for the money. Is how I see it.
Theres a difference between working for thr Lord and working for mammon yet saying you are working for the Lord.

I see it that the preacher/pastor should be paid for the work that he does for the Lord and His people.

It is the pastor who visits the sick and goes to hospitals. He performs funerals and weddings and sits with "you" when your child is in the emergency room.
He is the one who gets a phine call at 2 AM that says my son is in jail and he gets up and goes to see your son. In addition to all of theat he must do continual study in God's Word so that he can be approved by God as a workman.

The people of the church are the ones to either blame or praise for the salary of their pastor. Do not blame the pastor!!!!!
If he is loved and appreciated and works hard for his people and the cause of Christ they can pay him anything that they want to pay him and in my opinion he can buy anything he wants to buy with his salary.

Do not blame the pastor!!!!!
I hope this is not going off topic but A Pastor is Accountable unto God not the people.
What I mean is.....Far to many times the Father is giving the Pastor what He wants taught and the people want to hear something else.

A True Pastor will Preach and Teach what The Father instructed even if the people begin to leave.

Exactly.
For example, it could be just as easy to read 'the chronicles of narnia' to children. After all wont that keep them, entertained and attentive? Isnt that what they want to hesr, stories. After all isnt chronicles of narnia meant to be some christian myth?
But no. When you teach the Bible, you read the Bible! Not some made up myth/fairy tale.

I was just talking about ties. Most pastors dont have to buy their own ties they are given collars to wear. Like for example, in my job i am given A uniform. I dont wear flashy clothes for my job as my hands get dirty. But everyone knows what I do when Im in uniform.
I dont know what salary as anything to do with it if your pastor does not do what God assigned him to do, then you have no business being in that church. If he doesnt look after the sheep, and is all about himself, then stay away.

Thats all there is to it. My observation on visiting different churches is that some of them do have questionable leadership and people who are pastors who do not act like pastors at all. For example one church I visited had a comedy show instead of a sermon, and people were praising the pastor instead of God.

JEsus addressed the topic of fine clothing (or flashy clothing) several times when he was talking about the Pharisees and 'soft raiment'. James also mentioned in his letter how people treated richer looking people differently to poor people who were not as well dressed. This should not be.

Yes make an effort to be presentable, but remember that we are actually clothed 'in christ' and our adornment is not pearls or costly array and hairstyle (for women) but a meek and quiet spirit.

Agreed. A Pastor works for God and his foreman is Jesus Christ. If God is pleased then the people will be also.

You are of course correct however there are extremes on both ends of that spectrum.

I don't think we are discussing our inward condition, or how the rich and poor are to be treated, at least I wasn't.

How can we tell if someone is rich or poor. Well many people without knowing who the person is...will just judge them on what they are wearing. If someone is wearing fine clothing we might judge that they are rich. If someone is wearing rags we might judge that they are poor. But is this what God sees? Not necessarily He looks upon the heart.

Clothing can be an indicator though...because rich or poor..at least when we wear clothes we are clothed. Ok what about bodies...if someone is large we might assume they are rich because they are well fed. Or if someone is skinny that they are starving and poor. But this is not necessarily so.

I mentioned James because in his letter he was saying that you should not judge a person wearing poor clothing thats probably not designer label as less than someone wearing rich clothing, and tell them to sit in the corner.

The passage in James when read in its context is more about "equality" then it is judging the rich. The rich man is just as able to be saved as is the poor man but the poor man is not to be thought any less than the rich man. That is the lesson of James. Not judging but "Equality".

As for judging, is we are to keep God's commands, we must first judge what is right and what is wrong.

Consider 1 Corth. 5:11-13...………….
"... you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. 'Expel the wicked man from among you'".

It is more than clear that in these verses, God tells us to judge church members and expel them if necessary.

Then we are told in Romans 12:9...…………..
"Hate what is evil; cling to what is good".

How can we do that if we don't first judge what is good and what is evil? So, we must make judgments about what is right and what is wrong so that we can live according to God's commands.

I realize that a lot of people do not agree with me on this subject, but please read the Scriptures and understand that your problem on this subject is not with me but the Word of God.

Major I dont have a problem on this subject please dont make it about that. I am just saying do not judge someone solely on outward appearances is what James was saying.

There is a parable Jesus tells about a wedding and someone turns up not in wedding clothes and thus they have good reason to expel this person from the celebration. But this is because God has already given this person wedding clothes they just refuse to wear them. It is a different case altogether if someone actually has no clothes to wear we are to clothe anyone whos naked. Give our coats to another if we have two. Standards of dress can vary between rich and poor but...look at it this way, at least nobody turns up to church naked.

Major your OP was a good one. If people stick with reading the Bible FIRST and studying it they dont need to go off on tangents they will be grounded in the faith. You will have a good, solid foundation.

Another thing is that it seems that many people dont bother to read the Old Testament. But that is scripture too.
Jesus taught everything was founded on the prophets and the apostles and He was the cornerstone. You cant make sense of what Jesus taught if you dont even know what Jesus learned!
