Why is it that peace filled cordial Christian discussion forums are not as busy as those featuring conflict & POE Trolls?

I've lurked at a few Christian Discussion sites of late to see if their busy traffic is due to Christians in community or conflict feeders. Those who thrive on conflict and post accordingly.

Has anyone else noticed that Christian community forums that display the peace of Christ among its membership are less busy than those who are beset by devils? You know the type. They're not actually Christian but they search out scriptures in order to enter discussions on the topic of Apologetics, Soteriology, etc... and start conflicts. Countering with false scripture rebuttals , which is obvious, what is the mood of peaceful learned discussion on any given subject.

I'm just curious is anyone else has noticed this pattern? Actual peaceful forums are slow while conflict oriented communities are busy.
Maybe it is the microcosm/macrocosm modeling of the world taking shape on the web.

Anger captures hearts more forceably than Love and respect for others since "winning" arguments and pronouncing judgement is the goal of anger. The angry claims the right of personaly judging others.

We are not asked by our Lord to accept the views of others, but He does expect us to treat those with whom we disagree with respect as persons.

Agreed! It seems to me that we all like to be "right".

It also seems to me that a lot of people come to Christian web sites with preconceived agendas and use them as a means of getting their message out to others.

I do not know this for sure, but it has been my experience that those people simply can not find a lot of others who agree with their agenda so they meet here on line. If there were a lot who agreed then they would start their own church and would not be here at all.

Most of the ones I am talking about have "twisted" the Scriptures to make them fit their agenda instead of accepting the Word of God as it is written.

Then when they are confronted...….."anger" raises its ugly head and then comes the confrontational arguments.

That is exactly why I am a Bible person instead of a religious person.

When we are convinced in our heart about something we want to be true, we we tell our mind to accept it and right there is where so much false religion comes from.

Yea I think a lot is tit for tat rather than any learning or discussion taking place. Its a shame but only takes one or two bad apples to spoil the bunch.

I stay away from most apologetics or soteriolgy topics as the people that start them seem to just want to argue. They would be more theologians than actual practicing christians, some people view christianity is just a philosophy, but its so much more than that.

I dont mind that people like to think things through a lot and reason together, as its working things outt and we do need to settle and work out what we believe, but unbelievers by contrast refuse to believe they would rsther argue scripture. Jesus got into a debate and fight with the devil in the wilderness where the devil just baited him with three things and ideas of what God said. but Jesus simply said no thats not what God said, he said this. It is written.

The devil then left him alone.

I hang out on some of those forums and I am very aware of what you describe. People bring concepts they learned somewhere else and they don't actually care what God's word says unless it can be twisted to agree with what they already believe. I consider it an exercise to maintain good manners while talking to ... uh ... poorly instructed people.

Hello QuintessenceOfDust;

Yes, I have noticed what you and everyone has posted and agree. When I'm talking Jesus with one or two others and though it may not seem busy or exciting, but is filled with substance of the Word, peaceful fellowship, dialogue, teaching and the hope of eternity.

Jesus teaches the hermeneutic of what you are sharing in Matthew 7:13-14;
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. - ESV

To be clear, I'm not taking away large gatherings of believers for many of them are indeed anointed.

I'm referring to how easy it is to enter (the wide gate) or a large gathering; Its exciting, even the quibbling, who is going to win the contentious argument, who is going to get the last word and puff up their ego or pride? These gatherings you mention are filled with clutter.

To quote the study note in the NIV in the Matthew 7:13-14 passage, The gate that leads to eternal life is called "narrow." This doesn't mean that its difficult to become a Christian, but there is only one way to live eternally with God and only a few decide to walk this road. It may not be exciting but its replaced with joy because its a sure thing, a promise for eternal life with Jesus.

As far as the Christian community forums that display the peace of Christ among its membership are less busy than those who are beset by devils? I want to say its because we are not standing around looking up at heaven (standing around doing nothing) but responding to Jesus' second commission to the disciples in Acts 1:8-11;

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.- ESV

We have work to do and our busyness is about going out in our backyards, nations and to the ends of the earth spreading the Gospel.

My prayer for Christian Forum Site is that at the end of the day when we need time of relaxation through fellowship with others, for loving, encouraging, feeling safe and getting refreshed, that this site can be a refuge and peace. Tomorrow has its fill of busyness, especially ministry.

Thank you for your post, QuintessenceOfDust, I'm with you, and am blessed by your posts and topics.

God bless you and your family.

I, for one, think this forum has been a blessing. As I make my way through the growth of being a child of God, many of you folks have shown me kindness and have helped with my journey. I am not even close to getting there, but you all sure have made it a great trip thus far.

While I am dealing with my own set of tribulations that are somewhat difficult, I do feel at peace with myself and the road I have started to travel. I have learned so much in the past three months and only wish I had dome this years ago. By the grace of God, I have been given another opportunity to make a first impression and this is one of the greatest gifts I would have hoped for.

God bless every one of you and I am thankful for the relationships I have made and the fellowship I am taking part in.

I have been following a discussion on another forum about the crucifixion. Some people argue that three days and three nights does not mean 72 hours. Some argue that there is a difference between "in the heart of the earth" and "in the grave" and "dead". I pointed out that Roman law required a body to be in a grave for three days and three nights to be legally dead, and that was rejected because "Roman law is irrelevant".

These people are working awfully hard to be confused, and we know that our God is not the author of confusion.

Agreed 100%.

What I have seen over the years is that people have been taught/told things by their parents and/or respected ministers.

Then when they here something different than what they have been told, instead of doing the work/study to see which is Biblically correct, they fall back on what they were told because it is easier and requires no effort at all.

The fact of life as we grow older is that.....We like what we know even if what we know is wrong.
Where does that come from. The root of....We do not like CHANGE!

Correct. However a lot of people like to add nonsense to common sense so as to make no sense at all.

The hard thing to accept is that your parents dont actually know everything.

They might need to pretend they know everything, parents have been known to lie to their children to cover up the fact they dont know stuff! Its better to be honest and say well I dont know than make up a lie.

As for respected ministers well I dont know any that are infallible!

I once had a boss who didnt want to admit that he didnt know some things about gardening that I knew. Because he was older and set in his ways. I often questioned his practices but he would always justify by saying that his way was the right way cos hed been doing it for so long...and he just wanted me to do as I was told. But when i did only what I was told the results werent very good. I could be lazy and just only do what I was told by him or I could do what God was telling me. Which might be something competely opposite and contrary to what my boss was telling me.

Well i cant do what Im told if someone is telling me to do it wrong! And then saying the wrong way is the right way! Thats just totally confusing!

Hello rtm3039;

God bless you and thank you for your kinds words. What you shared encourages all of us in our personal desire to grow in Christ. I read a statement here at Christian Forum Site and want to paraphrase what they said, Christianity breeds Christianity.

I feel the more we fellowship with like believers the more we will grow - sustenance in the love of Christ, new knowledge in the Word of God, testimonies on how we serve others, etc...

I've also had my experiences with contention in Christian fellowship. I used to endure it because we were Christians but learned to love them and quietly say bye for now, then leave or let them go. No harm while guarding my tongue.

God bless you all!

I started a gardening thread way back if you want to hang out there you welcome. Actually used to have a whole forum in another christian site but...I havent been back sadly cos of trolls and bullies.

Am sorry that can happen anywhere but I think the nature of some sites actually encourage arguments or maybe its the mods wanting to drive up traffic I dont know theres all sorts of reasons. Larger sites just as larger churches can be too busy to keep track of.

What major said I reckon theres some truth to it that some people have agendas and maybe not fit in with other churches so they choose forums as an outlet to express quite unorthodox views. There are some people that get very upset if you dont completely agree with them or dare to have a different view. i dont mind that but when people start mocking others for this Im thinking this isnt christian mission field or fellowship its more like a shooting range with everyone else as targets.

Am sorry I dont meant to talk about shooting its a very sensitive topic right now.

Personally I dont agree with them and would only accept them for use in hunting animals for food.
But Im very alarmed with their misuse. Too many people have died or been wiped out for no reason because some people went crazy with a gun. I will speak out against it if necessary. It may save a life.

I had a friend whos family member was shot and killed by a crazy neighbour who stepped on their property. People have got to find other ways with dealing with their anger and frustration not take it out on others. Go to God. If youre angry He can totally deal with it. Dont beat up the sheep.

Please try to understand the fact that...….'Guns do not kill people".

PEOPLE kill PEOPLE!

If a man does not have a gun and he is so angry at someone so as to think of murder in his heart, he will then beat them to death with a feather to do it.

Totally agree. I would love to live in a world where there were no guns; however, that boat sailed a long time ago. Even is every legally owned weapon was surrendered, there are millions of guns in the black market. The only thing that would happen is that only "bad guys" would have weapons.

I do agree that something needs to be done; however, the issue is within those that do this, not anything else. Much like everyone else; however, I really do not have an answered that has not already been tried.

It is coming!

There will be a day when men will not kill men.

I wish something could be done as well but I am of the opinion that just as you said...…..that ship has sailed.

The USA was formed and established in War and death. The right to carry arms was directly traced to those men who had to have a weapon to survive.
They used it to hunt their supper and feed their family. When the need to be free from English taxes and oppression, that same weapon was used to obtain the freedom we have now.

That fact is entrenched in our dna so to speak and the only think I know of that will change it is the 2nd Coming of Christ to set up His kingdom.

To be honest with you, I do believe you are right. As a society, we do not like moving backwards. Once you enjoy some right, it is not easy to freely give that right up. I've never had to use a weapon to protect my family; however, several of my neighbors have. It is almost like it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

And to think we claim to be civilized and enlightened.

Thats really sad that you not willing to give your rights to arms up.
Am sorry you have to live in a warzone...will pray for peace in your nation. As your neighbours down in the pacific ocean, we long for peace. When Jesus comes, we wont need to bring guns to see Him. He's got a whole army of avenging angels. We are always divinely protected. Put up your shield of faith.

Shalom.

Ok, but I am not the issue. There is no one that needs to worry about me doing something evil with any of my weapons. I am a responsible gun owner. The issues are those that are not responsible owners or have some emotional issue that should prevent them from accessing weapons. That's the issue no one is able to wrap their hands around.
