Purpose

God don't need my ability.
Earth: Accomplish something - I feel accomplished.
Spiritual: To be accomplished - 'Rest in Him'.

This is like an art piece and want to enjoy the profound simplicity of what 2404 is saying.

God is Sovereign
Earth: God is the accomplisher of the universe including His creation in us.
Spiritual: Who was and is and is to come - So breath and rest in Him.

Revelation 1:8

God bless you and your family.

How interesting that today's sermon was all about purpose and surrounded:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5: 14-16 (NIV)).

I. JESUS REVEALS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR LIFE.
A. You are the LIGHT of the world.
B. You have been strategically PUT in place.

II. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.
A. Can God TRUST you with His light?
B. Don’t WASTE your light.
1. Do GOOD deeds for those who are lost.
2. Do good deeds and then help people CONNECT the dots to God.
3. Think CONVERSION, not confrontation.
4. Invest and INVITE.

Amen.

Earth:
PS 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Thanks be to God… and the wisdom, experience of King David: that line inspires me every morning at the office when am looking for purpose.
Being an 8AM to 5PM employee on a secular Logistics/ Operations department.

Well routine is fine: it creates familiarity and efficiency… but it can be boring sometimes :)

But that line inspires me to do more, improve the process....

Which can be eventually a routine :)

BUT ONCE it becomes a routine, it will be a continuous improvement :)

aha, I thank God that He has allowed me to perform the work I a'ways wanted to do. When I was a little boy, I always wanted to work in law enforcement. By the grace of God, this has been what I have done since October 1980. To date, 39 years later, I still love the work and can't imagine doing anything else.

It has not all been a great ride, but who here can claim that?

At this phase of my life, as my law enforcement career starts winding down, I am more interested in my purpose as a Christian, husband, father, and grandfather.

Yessir! :)

The Military operations, as I can deduct from many management books is one of the most efficient “man-made organization”.

Precisely many business management styles “copy-paste” principles in the military into the business world.

Relating it to the OP Original Post.
Well, the post is in the “Thoughts for Today” so this is just a “Thought” :)

In my secular, EARTH things to do: it gives me “sense of accomplishment” if “I” did things that works, that improved a process.
My thinking on this is somehow related to when God said, after creation: “It was Good”.
It is in my personal opinion that since we are created in “God’s image”: we are CREATIVE as well, it is more than "sense" of accomplishment: it is more of "judgement" , of JUSTICE "to give to whom it is due."

If I say to myself: “I accomplished” as the OP mentioned: it is more of EARTHLY judgement.

But if say to myself, which is true, we Christians do things for God: “Rest in Him” if that is the intention or meant by he OP, in my terms as i understand “for His Name’s sake” as King David Psalms.
or relating it your post#3 earlier: does it pass the criteria for the point no. " 2. Do good deeds and then help people CONNECT the dots to God.

Just a thought :)
for my personal consumption posting it in a PUBLIC FORUM…
if one can relate what I mean: GOOD,
if it confusing or I can’t describe it well by words : GOOD as well :) haha… only me and God knows what I meant!

Some verses related to what I post:

EPH 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
EPH 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
EPH 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
EPH 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
EPH 6:9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

PHIL 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

1COR 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
1COR 10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

Hello Aha;

Thank you for your interesting post and the way you organize your thoughts.

I have a question, brother. In your writings I noticed you outline and at times seem to write in chronological order. Is this natural or did you develop this in your studies or work?

I find this to be a good quality in sharing with you.

God bless you and your family.

Hello rtm3039;

This caught my attention and can see from your posts that you have been serving in law enforcement for a long time. It is obvious the Lord gave you your calling.

When I was about 8 - 10 years old, I wanted to be an Air Force police officer but thats as far as it went.

I enjoy reading your posts and have a question. Did you have to take renewal exams, or were you required to test only once or twice in your career?

2 Thessalonians 2:14, 14 To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we desire our daily walk with Christ, we see more and more each day how God assigns us our talents in our ministries and sharing the Gospel to the unreached, thus His Purpose.

God bless you and your family.

Hey bobinfaith, I am not all that sure I understand your question. The only "renewal" testing I am aware of would be quarterly weapons qualification and some emergency certifications like CPR, etc. Certain certifications also require a set number of Continuing Education Points (CEP). For me, this is 12 CPEs a year.

Now, from a promotions perspective, most promotions do require you to take a test, which I guess is kind of a renewal process.

Yes, I am what I am and what I have always wanted to be. And for this, I thank the Lord.

Bless you and your family back, rtm3039

We all want to be someone or someone like that as a kid. As wanted to be either an actress or a game show hostess. Dream job would be to work in the NFL. BTW, just give it all to the Lord. As He gives us purpose. Never disappoints us no matter what.

JPPT1974,

Ok, that was quite a jump; from game show hostess to working in the NFL.

As I look back at my career, I am thankful for all the experiences I have enjoyed. The fact that I started all this in 1980 is crazy. Time sure does go back way too fast.

God bless you and good morning, Ray;

What I meant by renewal testing is taking the tests/exams periodically in your position, or promotion or upated policies.

Thank you, brother.

bobibfaith,

Ok.... Well, not really. We have what is called a "special agent model." This model outlines an agent's career path from start to end. It starts off with the basic special agent course. This is followed by a one year probationary period. Upon completion, the agent is said to be "accredited." There are five required courses that the agent has to take. (The advance child investigations course, the advance fraud course, the hostage negotiations course, the protection course, and the computer crimes course). All of this is investigative. From a management perspective, there are leadership courses that are programmed at the time of promotion from a special agent to a team chief, from a team chief to a special agent-in-charge, and from a special agent-in-charge to an operations officer. These promotions usually take place approximately every 4 - 5 years.

There are other courses available, usually if you specialize (crime lab, polygraph examiner, personnel protection, computer crimes investigator, or criminal science officer).

Now, one thing we have is that every 18 months or so, each office is visited by the Inspector General and a one week compliance inspection is conducted. This covers every program we operate and ensures that jobs are being done in compliance with standards and that all policies are updated and understood. In between those 18 months, there are yearly inspections by the region and quarterly inspections by the district. So, basically, someone is inspecting your office once a quarter.

Hi rtm3039;

I understand and you definitely answered my question.

Getting back to Purpose, after retiring from 46 years of working, accounting took up 23 years and the rest of the 23 years was in customer service managment.

I was never fulfilled in accounting and remember after college having to take exams to qualify for the position I was applying for (private sector.) When there were updates in accounting cycles I was required to take another exam to stay on top of processing and reconciliation that tied in to procurement, current and fixed assets. This only pertained to private employers. I never worked for the government.

I never felt accounting was my purpose but have to confess; God knew this was not my true love (I struggled going to work) but He made a way to discipline me, learn, get through it, stay employed and earn good money. All the glory to God.

In the mix of my accounting career, customer service was my other work and in this area there was a higher calling - helping customers, vendors, and being a team player with my peers and upper management. The money was not as good as accounting but this work became my purpose. God used customer service to build up my ministry of serving and helping others in the church.

As far as serving in the pastoral ministry, I never had to take an exam, but graduated from seminary and was ordained. I'm licensed to marry, lead funerals and executive administration, while performing the ordinances (baptism and the Eucharist) in the Christian church.

My (exam) is accountability. Even the California Southern Baptist Convention has on record that I serve at Christian Forum Site.
Not just what I do but also when I make mistakes, and they have been many in the church. There is a team of my personal pastors that correct me but also encourage me. For this I'm grateful to the Lord.

The toughest part of my work has been the ministry. But at the end of the day, I confess to the Lord I love what I do and give Him thanks.

God bless you, Ray, and thanks to everyone for allowing me to share God's Purpose for my wife and me.

bibinfaith,

To be honest with you, I struggle with purpose. After I retired from my first career, it appears that the passion left me as well. Not sure how to handle than, so I keep looking.

Hey Ray;

Could it be the struggle with purpose after your first career was that you needed time to let go, and take a Sabbatical (rest) before you decide on your next move? Could this have been the purpose for a little while?

Man, I have heard of many people who retired after a long ride, then without getting refreshed, jump into another gig and then come home weary.

When you said "keep going" I believe this was time in between to allow God to spend time with you. In our sharing, 2019 has been a new direction in your life, amen?

God bless you!

I think it was develop at work: i usually write SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) on daily task of people. thus, a thought, a procedure has to be chronological: you cannot put shoes first, socks first :)

Am not sure who started it, standardization, to put in writing what people do in a daily operations, i think it is the French?
well, it make sense, but sometimes it can be written just for the sake to comply.

i wonder why electrical socket, plugs are not standardize. there many types of power outlets from different countries :)
