Loving People More After They Die

That title can be changed if it offends.
If there is one regret I have it is that I didn't love my parents enough when they were alive.
Ive had old high school friends say to me "Your parents were one of a kind. I always felt welcome at your house." I lucked out in that regard. My parents were very loving. Very kind. Very humble and very social. They were Christians who walked the talk.
But I took them for granted. I didn't show enough respect. I was a spoilt brat teenager. Not financially but emotionally. My parents were always there if I needed them. My father was president of a local charity for 20 years, visited the sick in Hospital after Church on Sunday. he really had an instinct for helping the poor. Yet he didn't have the language of intellectual Christians. he didn't quote the Gospel. he lived the Gospel! My mother was a dutiful wife and mother. A shame she didn't catch the wave of feminism. because she might have learnt more assertiveness. Respect she deserved.
It makes me wonder how I will feel if or when my siblings or partner pass on. Will I have the same amount of regret? here's praying I don't!

When people die whom we have been close to, they take on a different dimension. Their flaws seem inconsequential. How could we have ever made such a big deal about their weaknesses?

I think lack of respect is a big thing these days among young people, and its become generational.
Now you have elders that because they didnt show respect or honor to their parents, are encouraging rebellion in their own children, as if its a good thing. Another thing is broken homes. I think its very hard for children to show respect to parents who cant even be in the same room with each other without fighting.

Jesus did say when his disciples were kind of acting up and fighting amongst themselves about who was better, that He wasnt going to be around for much longer. (Meaning he was going to be killed) so He certainly knew his time was going to be cut short on earth and he had to make the most of it.

My dear friend...…..welcome to the real world!!!!!

I believe that most all of us feel the same way that you do. Great post!!!!

When I was 16 years old, I knew that my parents were the two dumbest people in the world. However, after our 2nd child I realized how smart that they really were. Fortunately for me, God allowed them a long life in which I was able to correct my deeds and thoughts toward them and my wife and I were able to care for both of them in our home until they passed.

You sound like a good family man Major. What you and your wife did is not typical these days. In Australia anyway. Looking after one's parents in your home. What are your chances of receiving same from your kids when you become elderly?

I agree and we do not know. Our plan is to burry their inheritance in our back yard and tell them it is theirs if they stay here at home with us find it before we die.

My math makes you aged 70 plus then. :) We are coming up only 28 years and have no kids. I don't think we will make it 50 years to be honest. Health wise I mean. Im 61 by the way.

You are pretty good at math.

I do pray that you will improve and be restored.

My wife and I both have had some serious health issues but we are still moving forward. Granted, a lot slower than we used to but still moving.

My brother,
Its better to believe God, your health is nothing to God He can add you 40 years and don't be wearied every thing on this world is meaningless.
God Bless You,
Just Believe Jesus.
