I can see a spark of cheeky humour in Major. Let that spark catch fire! Otherwise I might bore you all to death with my serious, self-absorbed threads about my favourite topic...me!!
Of course we need to keep a lid on the levity. Occasionally we might go overboard. Just bring us back into line. But I see the risk worth taking. Faith and pleasing God is our priority. But the way I see it, God gave us all a funny bone. Use it or lose it?
No need to put this in the humour subforum. Surely? Cant we cross boundaries? I never was a fan of compartmentalising serious thought and light-hearted thought. One can save the other.

lol! i agree!

God bless you, JAS, and thank you for your reminder of humor!

I will add one serious note to this.
Those who have really suffered in life. Like victims of sexual abuse or torture or awful physical disability or pain. It is highly understandable that they lose their sense of humour. Life will never seem funny to them. I spent a short 3 month stint in a hospital for bedridden disabled people as a support worker. Not much to laugh about there. Waiting up all night for someone to change your diaper is no laughing matter. I try to imagine what it is like in that situation. I might be praying to God "just put me out of my misery" to be honest. That experience also taught me that there are some remarkable people in the world, nurses and support staff who bring competence and joy to those suffering like this. They postpone their own comfort to help others. Incredibly inspiring.

And I have had a charmed run. By that I mean that I have managed to avoid serious trauma or drama in my life. So I have a lot to be grateful for. Life isn't bad at all. I can usually find something funny in my life every day. My dog cracks me up daily. He is enthusiastic about going to exactly the same park every day!

Is the funny bone the rib. Just wondering. Without eve, adam would have nobody to laugh at his jokes. The animals would not have got it.

The interesting thing about depression, is it does have a funny side to it called manic depresssion. So for every low you have you can also have a high. So even the most depressed people are able to have a sense of humour.

Jesus underwent suffering, mocking and torture and pain at the crucifixtion. But he saw through it all to his Father and didnt open his mouth to revile but to forgive. He rose again, so it shows that nothing could keep him down for long.
I mean imagine trying to kill someone and they just dont stay dead they show up three days later and go hey. Thought you could get rid of me that easily huh? And funny thing is Jesus says lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

So I guess we are stuck with Him.

Good thought :)

I understand what you are trying to say, however, there are several types of depression. I would not consider anything about any of them "funny". Some people struggle with it their entire lives, and never have any kind of fun, joy, happiness, or peace. It would help us all to research and educate ourselves on such topics, so we may be able to be more understanding and helpful to one another.

Well I had the manic kind. So when people thought i was depressed actually I was having fun. When I was having fun actually it was to stop from being depressed.

The Blues is a musicall genre that was specifically meant for people to express ther feelings so they would not feel depressed after theyd sung their hearts out. Or soul music. DAvid the psalmist knew this. He would play his harp to keep the evil spirits of Saul at bay.

Im not saying it was funny in that its meant to be hilarious, but joy does come after mourning. Ive met plenty if people that have bouts of depression and all of them are capable of experiencing joy through simple acts of kindness.

AtomicSnowflake,

I agree and you just do not see it coming. Last year, one of my former task force commanders (Colonel Britt Mallow) took his own life, leaving behind a wife and several children. When we heard of his death, we did not know the cause (or the manner). His wife broke the news. Turns out he had been battling depression his entire life. This guy was a West Point graduate and a colonel in the US Army. Worked with him for years and did not have a clue.

We all have our bouts of depression, but to some people, it's a demon that eventually wins. I always keep in mind that, on average, 21 soldiers (both active and retired) take their own lives a day. That's a day and that works out to almost 1 an hour. Today, that is at least 15 and its not even night fall yet.

My heart goes out to people whose lives are lost or ruined by mental illness. My MH is not always reliable either.

Perfect love casts out fear, for fear has torment.
GOd has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind.

Those who suffer from mental illness, as I had, need delieverance. You cant just ignore the demons, they need to be CAST out. Dont let them live in you or hide in you. They may put up resistance, but if one belongs to God, then they have no legal right to be there anymore.

God did give us a funny bone, God himself has a "funny bone". Jesus seemed to laugh alot and be in good mood very often. Jesus is the manifestation of God himself as part of the trinity. There is the part where the person was following Christ and the soldiers as Christ was on his way to be judged by the council. The bible says in mark 14.51, that he ran away naked, i guess that is humour to God. The things we would laugh at God would not find funny like dirty jokes, and swearing. Its going to be interesting because in eternity, we will be laughing with God, and be "married" to him. I guess we will not have the same sense of humour we have now, We will be perfect and be like God in persona nature.
