I'm So Depressed

I have studied General Psychology and am familiar with the psyche but science has its limits and is still in its infancy understanding the human mind and what makes us depressed and how to remedy it. They just haven't yet figured out that their roadblock to remedy discovery is actually the hole God put there for Himself. People, Godly people, wrestled with depression in the Bible and we do today. It is nothing to be ashamed of because in those dark reflections of ourselves is where we find ourselves and discover God in our lives. If you need medication take the medication but let God into those shadows and learn from Him. Remember that you are human and that you don't have to beat yourself up or loathe the person you have become. Think of it as a stop sign at an intersection; there is still more road either way you turn but you are just having to look before proceeding. Stay strong in the Lord, brothers and sisters, and this will soon pass.

I agree. Depression is a killer!

Depression is one of those things that we can talk about and say we are believing in God to fix us but the reality is a lot more sinister than that.

When depression is "Clinical", there is no amount of faith in God that is going to lift anyone out of the depths of its pull.

The God who gives us spiritual salvation is the same God who has given men the knowledge to produce medications and therapies in order to help those who are clinically depressed.

There has never been a more Godly person full of faith that my mother. However, after she had a hysterectomy in her 40's with NO hormone therapy, she lived the rest of her life struggling with depression. Only the proper medication taken allowed her to live a moderately happy life.

According to our intellect that is right, it is our realm of operation - given to us, but let us not limit God by our intellect.
Our intellect may be our greatest enemy for by it we may hinder God's moving.

I would like your elaboration on what you mean. It sounds as though you are implying that knowledge hinders God's work. A miracle in a person's life will often be the help of another person whether it is a lay-person or doctor. We must be cautious to not give so much weight to a thunder-and-lightning miracle when it may be a soft whisper. I used to believe that God would heal me from all of my problems miraculously but He never did. I take medication for various things and God gave the doctors and scientists the knowledge to help me and I am thankful for it. What do you say?

I hear you...however, God never said that we as Christians are to remove our brains in order to be a Christian.

God speaks to us from His written Word to our "consciousness". Our consciousness is then actually part of our intellect! Is it not???

I am thankful for doctors too. The tree of the knowledge of Good and evil. But of course there is something beyond that. You have spoke of faith - that is not an intellectual process. Faith is a revelation, all things are possible if we can only believe, and we can only believe if it is given to us. I too have prayed for things that I have not received, but then I'm not the Potter and really don't know what I need to be that which has been intended for me. Do I quit praying NO for you can not do otherwise - than what you are.

Amen to that !

Thank you Major.
You are right - but what is being implied when it says 'Pharaoh's heart was hardened?

I believe in God's power and have faith in Him completely but I also know that I must be proactive in my life in order to meet Him in that process. Faith is things hoped for the EVIDENCE of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). That evidence of my faith can be that doctor. Reminds me of the story of a man who died and went to Heaven and He asked God why He didn't answer His prayer for help when the flood was rising on his home. God said I sent a boat and you said God will help me. I sent a raft and you said God will help me, I am praying. I sent a helicopter and you refused to go because you said you were praying for God's help. So, here you are because you refused My help!

Well.....what you are saying "sounds" good and it is something that many believe but it is not actually true now is it????

I want to be the 1st baseman for the Boston Red Socks. No matter how much I pray about it, it just is not going to happen.
I always thought I would be Mr. Universe. But here 75 years later it has not happened.

Faith in the Bible is faith in God against all that contradicts Him. To believe in something or someone is to commit to them. Faith is not just God’s specific vehicle for a specific blessing. FAITH is the goal of a committed life lived in submission, trust, and fellowship. The blessing of that life is immense and eternal.

Thank you Major.
You are right - but what is being implied when it says 'Pharaoh's heart was hardened?

1st of all my friend, The pharaoh God hardened was an evil man, and the nation he ruled agreed with, or at least did not oppose, his evil actions.

2nd, on least a couple occasions, Pharaoh hardened his own heart against letting the Israelites go: “But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart” (Exodus 8:15).

Romans 9:17-18 declares,
“For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: ‘I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.’

Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden.”

When the Bible says that ‘God hardened Pharaoh’s heart’, it means God let Pharaoh harden his heart against Moses and the Israelis. However, we must understand the context as he was the King of the most powerful nation in the world at that time, who was standing in the way of God and His plans for His people.

There are valleys in life as well as mountains...and flat areas.
Living in a valley of course its sometimes hard to lift yourself out of it. I've been there!
Though flat areas can be expansive, they can be boring too!
It's rare that we are on the mountain top, sure it can be exhilarating but also dangerous.

I think as long as you find a water source (i.e living water, Christ) then wherever you are in life you can cope. Thing about valleys is they can actually be the richest experiences and places to be. I think people underestimate the valleys, they may be dark at times, but they are not the real pits i.e hell.

All water runs down hill so the water will always be in the Valley!

if I am not found in the pits I am usually found angry with God to some degree..interspersed with some sunshine,
this Christianity business sure feels like I am going through my childhood again, but this time with someone who knows me and loves me better. Gone are the days when I could just mong out and I could have whatever I wanted. My Father knows me better than I do, so even though I get angry with him, and think about leaving home, to buddhism, as a kind of rebellion,, I find I have more respect for Him because He's no pushover. I realise He owes me nothing, ( I don't see Him chasing me)which is a kind of relief really. I have messed up so badly in the past without Him. these days He just whispers truth in my ear when I have calmed down, And I just got used to the fact that he gives when He's ready.

anyway, I'm wandering off topic,....
I used to suffer with clinical depression, but its honestly gone, I had it for years, I still get sad, but it does not have that eternity to it.like I say I get more angry these days. angry that I have to actually wait, , or act, or acceptance of facts in the moment as opposed to wallowing and resigning to believing I know the future, yeh, so im struggling with anger, its a definite improvement, at least I am feeling something rather than just apathy

and I do credit the Christian path for this improvement😊

God bless you and thank you for sharing that.

I would offer. As sons of God (beleivers) we do not know what we will be when we receive the promise of our new incorruptible bodies.

We know God created mankind upright with the ability to walk or understand eternal God not seen . The design. . . obey the loving voice of God . But the stranager took away the ability to understand truth as a law . In affect saying . . . Look at me and live, why trust in the things not seen ?

Their new understanding became crawling in the dust the Holy Spirit of truth having removed its abilty to walk or maybe or stand upright.

Mankind had completly become seperated from the glory of God the teacher, comforter the God who works in us with us making our burden lighter.(Emanuel)

A while back when reading the words ; "and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you" it revealed that which was lost in the garden of Eden , the comfort of Him who works in us continually to bring into our remberence, comforting, humbling ourselves in respect to his teaching abiltiy . He lovingly commands us to rightly divide seeking after his approval .The one good teaching master as Lord empowers us to pass the trials .

John14: 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
