Colossians 2:18

How do you view this passage of Scripture? (All of it if you are willing but especially the underlined portion)

Colossians 2:18 (NASB) - "Take care that no one keeps defrauding you of your prize by delighting in humility and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind"

Colossians 2:18 (KJV+) - "Let no manG3367 beguile you of your rewardG2603 G5209 in a voluntary humilityG2309 G1722 G5012 andG2532 worshippingG2356 of angels,G32 intruding intoG1687 those things whichG3739 he hath notG3361 seen,G3708 vainlyG1500 puffed upG5448 byG5259 hisG848 fleshlyG4561 mind,G3563"

Strong's Concordance #s for the underlined portions:

G2309 -
thelō ethelō
thel'-o, eth-el'-o

Either the first or the second form may be used. In certain tenses θελέω theleō thel-eh'-o (and ἐθέλέω etheleō eth-el-eh'-o) are used, which are otherwise obsolete; apparently strengthened from the alternate form of G138; to determine (as an active voice option from subjective impulse; whereas G1014 properly denotes rather a passive voice acquiescence in objective considerations), that is, choose or prefer (literally or figuratively); by implication to wish, that is, be inclined to (sometimes adverbially gladly); impersonally for the future tense, to be about to; by Hebraism to delight in: - desire, be disposed (forward), intend, list, love, mean, please, have rather, (be) will (have, -ling, -ling [ly]).
G1722 -
ἐν
en
en

A primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), that is, a relation of rest (intermediate between G1519 and G1537); “in”, at, (up-) on, by, etc.: - about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-) by (+ all means), for (. . . sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-) in (-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-) on, [open-] ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, [speedi-] ly, X that, X there (-in, -on), through (-out), (un-) to(-ward), under, when, where (-with), while, with (-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) prep.
G5012 -
ταπεινοφροσύνη
tapeinophrosunē
tap-i-nof-ros-oo'-nay

From a compound of G5011 and the base of G5424; humiliation of mind, that is, modesty: - humbleness of mind, humility (of mind), lowliness (of mind).
G2356 -
θρησκεία
thrēskeia
thrace-ki'-ah

From a derivative of G2357; ceremonial observance: - religion, worshipping.
G32 -
ἄγγελος
aggelos
ang'-el-os

From ἀγγέλλω aggellō (probably derived from G71; compare G34; to bring tidings); a messenger; especially an “angel”; by implication a pastor: - angel, messenger.

It would appear to be another warning not to go above all things written in the law and prophets. (sola scriptura). Like that of 1 John 2;27-28 in so much that some were saying we need a visible man to teach us. But the Holy Spirit informed us to abide in him as he teaches.

Or in other words don’t follow rules that people make up in their own puffed up fleshly minds.

Worshiping angels is worshipping or giving heed to one’s own thoughts that do not come from hearing God (sola scriptura) but rather arte thoughts of the spirit of error the anti- spirit or teacher.

The Easy to Read Version aids to the ones you offered

Colossian 2:18 EVR Some people enjoy acting as if they are humble and love to worship angels. They always talk about the visions they have seen. Don’t listen to them when they say you are wrong because you don’t do these things. It is so foolish for them to feel such pride, because it is all based on their own human ideas.

A good example in is shown in Mathew 4 when the false messenger brought into the mind of Jesus a lying vision or wonder. The father working with Jesus gave Jesus words to rebuke the spirit of error three times Jesus declared the gospel “as it is written” and he fled

Mathew4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

The local church there was fighting against Gnosticism, who wanted to put into place a system in which jesus was just one of many ways to gte to God, as he was a lerrser goid, and that angels were above him even!
