Proverbs 28:2

Pollution of the land is nothing in comparison to pollution of the heart and mind, through coveteousness, lies and falsehoods.
But it does affect the very air and water we breathe and drink....so makes life harder. Not just for us, but for all the plants, and animals and every living thing. Are we not supposed to look after God's creatures and creation or just ourselves.

Not the proverb does NOT say for the transgression of the body....

When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but when the ruler is a man of discernment, understanding, and knowledge, its stability will long continue. Proverbs 28:2 Amp

A land which transgresses [is punished by] having many rulers;
but with a man of understanding and knowledge, stability is prolonged. Proverbs 28:2 CJB

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged. Proverbs 28:2 KJV

When a land transgresses, it has many rulers,
but with a man of understanding and knowledge,
its stability will long continue. Proverbs 28:2 ESV

When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers,
but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures. Proverbs 28:2 HCSB

I guess I just don't see it in Pro 28:2. šŸš

yep in all those versions it says LAND

not body.
It's not referring to land in an ecological sense.
Lands don't transgress but people do.
'Many rulers' is referring to everyone doing their own thing (doing what is right in their own eyes)
'The discerning and knowledgeable person' will be fulfilled in the Millennium, until then, we pray for wise leaders.

really
So you don't think erosion, acid rain etc and destruction of land and what people do to destroy it...or has anything to do with anything?

Can you live underwater? Do you rent or own land? What would happen if you couldn't breathe or go outside because it was so polluted. Where would you grow your food..? Or do you live in space and don't belong to a land?

Did God not promise LAND to the Israelites?

Or was that just an empty promise? Was the 'land of milk and honey' just a figment of their imagination then.

I don't think it has anything to do with Pro 28:2, if that is what you are asking.

I believe it is a promise to the believing descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob which they will enjoy in the Millennium as Christ Jesus restores this earth to a paradise. Here is a sample...

Isaiah 35:1-10 (NASB) The wilderness and the desert will be glad, And the Arabah will rejoice and blossom; Like the crocus It will blossom profusely And rejoice with rejoicing and shout of joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, The majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the glory of the LORD, The majesty of our God. Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. Say to those with anxious heart, "Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; The recompense of God will come, But He will save you." Then the eyes of the blind will be opened And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, And the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness And streams in the Arabah. The scorched land will become a pool And the thirsty ground springs of water; In the haunt of jackals, its resting place, Grass becomes reeds and rushes. A highway will be there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, But it will be for him who walks that way, And fools will not wander on it. No lion will be there, Nor will any vicious beast go up on it; These will not be found there. But the redeemed will walk there, And the ransomed of the LORD will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion, With everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.

but what about the land, when is that going to be washed and become clean?
Nobody is leaving the land time to become clean and recover are they. We are still living on polluted land...especially in cities.

hhmm... maybe this could apply..??

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
[2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV]

yep

Remember that Jesus sacrifice, his blood was poured out, on the land. Though some of it was placed on the ark of covenant as atonement.

When you make a garden, you can use blood and bone as a fertiliser. It actually increases fertility. But if you pollute the land, or rape it, it is actually no good for growing anything.

Did you know the people who live in Kuwait cannot grow their own food cos its desert. They have to rely on imported food. They sell their oil to the Americans, and they use the money to buy American food, and as a consequence, many Kuwaitis are very overweight, because American food is super-processed and mostly devoid of nutrients. But if the oil stopped, they would starve. They have no real means to grow their own food cos the land is so very dry and hot. Plus they don't live near the Nile that could give fertile floodwaters.

I looked up 'transgress' and that means to go beyond or step over boundaries.

Could that mean in this proverbs context...transgression of a land...like invading a land?

Several different Hebrew words are translated "transgress." In this case the Hebrew word translated "transgression" has more to do with rebellion and a breakdown or breach of relationships. So land here is speaking of the people of the land rather than the land itself.

Nope....."you" are seeing it correctly my brother.

IMHO you are taking a Scripture completely out of context to make it fit what you want it to say.

That is a very dangerous thing to do and it will lead to very bad understanding.

Yes.

It was "symbolic" language used to describe the difference between what they had and how good what God promised them was.

in some versions the word used is 'rebellion' but it's hard to rebel against a land. It's more rebellion against a ruler (who rules the land). It's not talking about relationships in general.

I think it interesting that transgression of land is used in my version (KJV) and all the other proverbs around it talk about the land. For example in 27: 23-27 it talks about the flocks, the herds, the goats the lambs etc.

Some people I guess don't really understand the concept of belonging to a land, and looking after it!

From the beginning God told us to dress and keep the land. So God's word does talk about caring for the land.

My comment is about Prov 28:2 and what God is telling us in this verse.

Well I think God is telling us transgressing a land means not caring for it.
A wise ruler would prolong it..I guess care for it so it lasts a long time
Unwise rulers or many princes exploit the land. I remember reading history that the Romans after invading a land, would destroy everything in it and sprinkle salt all over it so that NOTHING would ever grow.

I don't know if it's true or not. But I do know that some countries have sprayed agent orange all over another countries jungle, or just bombed everyone using nuclear weapons, and as a result, nobody can ever live there again without serious health issues.

Ok Lanolin,

"Agent Orange" is a herbicide and defoliant chemical that has not been used since Viet Nam. Now, as for countries "just bombed everyone using nuclear weapons, and as a result, nobody can ever live there again without serious health issues," let's keep it real.

We (US) is the only country that has done this and that was a really long time ago. Your language makes it appear as if this is happening every couple of weeks. 1945 is a long time ago and people are living in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki with out any concerns over possible issues stemming from the bombs.
