In terms of revival, which comes first,
prayer/repentance or
God's grace and mercy in moving people to pray/repent?
Isn't God always first in everything? We only think we are first because naturally humans are self centred and aren't always aware of what God does behind the scenes, because He's not visible to us.

Yes, that is correct. There are two sides, definitely, but there is also another angle of a church body, the minister or pastoral staff that may have an agenda and instead of two sides keep it one sided.

I'm sure the longer we serve the more we have seen both.

Do you think that that could be the result of a breakdown in communication between the two or a desire to not compromise on some issues?

its not about who has a dog in a fight or not. its something that took place many years ago . what it is not.. that is how the Body of Christ operates . communities use to hold revivals to day we dont have revivals that we the body supports .

As I said......I do not have any thoughts on this. I feel bad for you that it happened.

What I do know is that is not how any church I have been involved has operated.
As a deacon many years ago, we had the sad task of removing a couple of pastors. It was done correctly and Biblically with proper communications on all sides with ample opportunity for each position to be represented. Both were of a personal nature and when the facts were openly discussed, both Pastors knew that they needed to resign before a church vote was needed.

Also, "communities" do not hold revivals. CHURCHS do that. As a church we hold a "Revival" every two years. We ask an Evangelist to come and be the speaker and how long it lasts is determined by the attendance of the church. Uselly 1 week to 10 days.

As a SBC we have the opportunity to use the Florida Baptist Convention resources and they are excellent in sending men who will do a great job.

A lot of churches still gather in rented venues.
Revivals used to be held in tents that were just erected over empty fields.

I think it can be done anywhere but obviously buildings dedicated for worship seem especially appropriate. People just want to be comfortable and sheltered, and I guess you can't blame them for needing that...problems arise when it starts costing too much and excluding everyone else who really only want to gather in order to worship.

Well.........many years ago, before inside A/C and heating and comfortable seats, TENTS were an option. Not so much today.

Then on top of that you have to consider those pesky MOSQETOES! (? spelling)....little flying bugs that bite.

Hi Major;

Yes, I feel many pastors, especially young ones take on so, so much that they're not communicating, "I need help!" and instead take on everything themselves, eventually leading to a breakdown in communication.

I feel the desire of a pastor or leadership not willing to compromise on some issues is a result of an embedded growing (self doctrine) sometimes they're not aware of, than can have a negative impact on the church body.

Agreed.

One of the areas that the school I attended did not teach was........."Delegation of Authority".

Another one is the "Business Aspect" of managing a church.

Most young pastors do that on a "on the job" training and it is sad but many do not adapt to it.

Good question.

Actually, I think that we should always be repenting of our sins as Christians. This is a part of our daily lives.

It seems to me that revival has it’s origin in God and that the result of sending revival is that repentance breaks out among both believers and unbelievers. It also indicates that revival is extraordinary and results in widespread evidence of its presence. I say that because to be "REvived" one has to first be "Vived".

You are the one who brought up revival in post #140, maybe you can give us your answer?
ok revival is to bring back to Life times of refreshing . the valley of dry bones can these Bones live again? when the Divine breath of God come in the revived . so what does revival mean to you.

What I have obsrved is what you just said.

I think maybe the young Pastors feel like if they admitt that they need help, it is a sign of weakness which some will translate into .....Not able!
