I think it was Vernon McGee that said something to the effect of "Invisible Communion for the invisible Church".

That's usually the reason given for 'closed' communion...to protect others from partaking unworthily, thus bringing condemnation on themselves.
Think anothermain reason would be that those holding to it might see themselves as being the "only true church"

I know 'reformed' baptists kinda look down on 'unreformed' baptists.
But not vice versa.

But you would think if they were smaller they'd be like, leave them and join us, we're better. Or we're more fun. We have scones.

I dunno, I just find it all a bit petty.

there is list of baptist that is many each one has one or two things different in doctrine . its not just reformed there are many i wont go into detail. i was asked resign from a southern baptist church. due to the fact it was discovered i was general baptist
. yes in the denominations there is is a difference in salvation teaching . see i went in there as a Christian teaching a know so salvation..

here is a good example i was talking to my brother last night. he is pastor of a gen baptist church. but came out of a first baptist church when ordained  . he was wanting to do communion .the first Sunday of the year wanting to use the disposable that comes with bread and wine in one cup. the place was closed to purchase . so he called the assembly of God pastor they had a box and gave it to them. a Pentecostal gave a Baptist church communion supplies they did not want any money at all. see this is how the Body of Christ should operate .

but instead we worry about foot washing which is very Bible . we worry do they teach osas or osnas or the baptism of the Holy spirit is the evidence of speaking in tongues . there was a time in the community Churches use to get together and hold joint services. each pastor preached in the others pulpit  .

my whole point is we are the Body of Christ we are taught in john 17 we are one in Christ that is how Christ prayed for us.

all this division of the Baptist looking at the Pentecostals and other denoms doing same thing . all this is division of carnal minds

so yes doctrines of man is in every branch . ok i did my post let the bar b que begin lol

I am a calvinist Baptist, but a free will baptist in my brother in christ still, and both should partake of communion in same church!

don't you have combined church services anymore?

We have them all the time, but I do recall that one time there was a church merger in one part of town, and two or three churches came together to be one church (a union church) but it seemed to fall apart when one of those churches said they got the Holy Spirit and the others didn't.

Hello forgiven;

I find what you shared about being asked to resigned from a southern baptist church because you were a general baptist is sad. I feel the pastor and board of the southern baptist church needs to be questioned regarding their autonomy. I know I bring up autonomy alot (how each church governs itself) but that is not a consolation for overlooking the Bible as the True authority as you referenced John 17.

Praise God for your brother who was blessed with the communion kits from a Pentecostal church. We had an experience where we ran out of communion wafers and our local Catholic church would not give us the name of the vendor because we weren't Catholic. I'm not blaming the entire Catholic church, but the office individual who didn't seem to understand the True application of the Scriptures. However, another Catholic church was kind enough to give us a local nun's monastery who makes communion wafers from scratch. We ordered from them and developed a great relationship.

Hello YeshuaFan;

I was thinking what you shared. I noticed how we label ourselves various flavors of our denominations. Does this make us any different when we walk out of our homes, church or work? Or do we remain the same man or woman of God?

I believe God is going to have a field day when judgment is upon us all.

to be honest what stirred it up was my not knowing i believe in communion and foot washing re: john 13 i said i would like to do communion and foot washing. but not before i did a teaching on it. many have closed minds think washing dirty feet gross. . long story short the former pastor daughter stayed at the church .she had a jezebel spirit she stirred up a stink. a meeting was made between her and i. me not knowing who had the issue.. she had others come plus man with the area southern bapt assoc . i was called on the carpet about footwashing .i read scripture from john 13 .then i was told by the man from southern baptist assoc . me being general baptist in southern baptist would not work.
Brother i preach the Bible not what general or southern baptist doctrine says. .over the years i have seen arguments arise over osas osnas. i decided i would have no part of it so i preach and teach a know so salvation. the man even come the next sunday listened to the message told me it was a good solid message.

back to story of meeting once i used scripture she could not find any way to control the meeting. until 2 weeks later she got few others on board threatened to leave the Church if i stayed.

they called another meeting i walked in a older man they let run things ( not a deacon } he said it was the will of the Church i resign. i looked him in the face told him .it was his will . no church meeting was called no other members was asked.

i wanted that church bad i had 99% vote approved in elected 1 not sure vote. to sum this up i would have dropped my general baptist credentials and joined the souther baptist. . see i dont need to be told how i have to believe they asked me where i stood on eternal security. my reply was i have a know so salvation. i know in whom i have beloved and that i was secure in my salvation . that is the story trust me the 1st meeting was a town hall meeting and i was on trial .the 2nd meeting was in secret to remove me .because they had nothing to bring against me other .being a gen baptist .. i will take time out sent you priv message in more details.

there are some subjects i have to pace my self on. the wrong reply causes me to reply wrong. i love all denoms as long as they preach Jesus way truth life. amen

this was in the town i grew p in past events .in the association {which is a group of churches ) every 5th Sunday week starting on Thursday night we use to have what we call fifth Sunday meetings 3 nights of service .
which ever church was the host church the pastor sometimes asked each pastor to preach one night. or all nights or get a outside speaker. . we no longer do that no one is interested . some area associations still due.
Covid has really hurt church attendance . some went from 100-to 30 people in attendance . sad thing is many will never return

Bob.........I do not have a dog in this hunt. Actually I do not have any feelings one way or the other.

What I do know from 30 years in retail work and 40 years in church work is that there is ALWAYS two sides to every story and usually when something like this happens, it is the "last shoe" to hit the floor".

In my baptist church, we once had an AOG church that was between buildings, and we allowed them to use our buildings on Sat nights, so Pentecostal on sat and baptist on sun!

its not about who has a dog in a fight or not. its something that took place many years ago . what it is not.. that is how the Body of Christ operates . communities use to hold revivals to day we dont have revivals that we the body supports .

does any one ever stop and realize its just a building the church i cane out of burnt. we joined services with a missionary baptist church. ended up buying the building . a church of God in town was flooded and ruined. they used the local upc for morning services ..

Yes, that is correct. There are two sides, definitely, but there is also another angle of a church body, the minister or pastoral staff that may have an agenda and instead of two sides keep it one sided.

I'm sure the longer we serve the more we have seen both.

A lot of churches still gather in rented venues.
Revivals used to be held in tents that were just erected over empty fields.

I think it can be done anywhere but obviously buildings dedicated for worship seem especially appropriate. People just want to be comfortable and sheltered, and I guess you can't blame them for needing that...problems arise when it starts costing too much and excluding everyone else who really only want to gather in order to worship.

revival comes at a cost and not $$$ . not many tent revivals any more imo its not the type place building tent brush harbor . its God people hunger and thirsting for righteousness a want to a desire for something from God . a pastor friend of mine has a radio broadcast called i came here expecting God to move .

in many cases sometimes we have more entertainment . than anointed singing. some churches has a better band than zz top . but all this comes saturated in prayer. allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely . we stay out of the way
