Why Did DeSantis Fly To Israel

To sign two laws? I mean he's American by citizenship, and more importantly, he is an elected official of a US state. Why did he feel the need to fly to a foreign country such as Israel to sign laws? Are these two laws even legitimate, given that they are signed in a foreign country?

The laws he signed are highly controversial, too.

This is from https://www.flgov.com/2023/04/28/go...isemitism-and-anti-bds-legislation-in-israel/
Today, Governor Ron DeSantis visited Israel as part of his international trade mission where he signed House Bill 269 to provide law enforcement agencies with new enforcement mechanisms to punish perpetrators of antisemitic incidents and those who target religious communities.
Governor DeSantis also signed a proclamation to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence.

HB 269 builds upon Governor DeSantis’ record of safeguarding the free exercise of religion in Florida by:

  • Prohibiting a person from intentionally dumping litter onto private property for the purpose of intimidating or threatening the owner, resident, or invitee of such property;
  • Prohibiting a person from willfully and maliciously harassing, threatening, or intimidating another person based on the person’s wearing or displaying of any indicia relating to any religious or ethnic heritage;
  • Creating a new prohibition against displaying or projecting, using any medium, an image onto a building, structure, or other property without the written consent of the owner of the building, structure, or property;
  • Creating a new trespass offense if a person who is not authorized, licensed, or invited willfully enters the campus of a state college or university for the purpose of threatening or intimidating another person, and is warned by the institution to depart and refuses to do so; and
  • Prohibiting a person from willfully and maliciously interrupting or disturbing any assembly of people met for the purpose of acknowledging the death of an individual.

Hey, sorry. I didn't know that they solicited donations. I just saw the news and thought it was worthy of attention. My apologies.

I have to wonder if you do not have a hidden agenda here by your post. Those of us who live in FREE Florida know that
he signed the “Public Nuisances” bill, which makes it a felony for hate groups to harass people for their religion or ethnicity.

Gov. DeSantis was in Israel as part of his overseas trade mission with stops in Japan and South Korea so as to sign business agreements with those countries. By signing the "Public Nuisances" Biil in Israel, he sent a signal to the nation that Florida would stand against anti-sematism.

Florida had the 4th highest rate of antisemitic incidents last year, according to the Anti-Defamation League, hence the action by the legislature to take action.

While there, Gov. DeSantis shared his often-told story about using water from the Sea of Galilee to baptize his children — and how people in Israel sent him some replacement holy water when staff members at the Governor’s Mansion mistakenly threw out a half-empty bottle.

Then on top of that, as a Presidential candidate, he stressed that if elected, he would support Israel's right to exist.

Now to answer your last question.....YES. A legislative bill passed by a state legislature and signed by the governor is law no matter where it is signed!

Thank you for the reply.

I assure you I am not an-semitic, if that's what you meant by me having a hidden agenda. I just thought it was very strange that laws for Florida were signed in a foreign country. And it also seemed like a waste of money. He could have signed them right at home. But I guess if he was going on an official trip anyway, then it's different.

But now I know that laws can in fact be signed in a foreign country. Thanks for educating me!

It’s now silly season here in the US, or put another way, it’s the start of the lengthy political run up to the next presidential election. It will get increasingly strange and interesting for the next 2 years.

The governor signed the bill in Israel just for this reason, to get as much attention as possible.

The governor, and a double handful of others, have started their campaigns for president of the United States. He, and his fellow candidates, will be saying and doing things to get as much press as possible. This often includes extreme shows of solidarity to court various ethnic, political and religious groups so as to show he is “doing” something for them.

I take all this with a grain of salt because much/most is political theater. When politicians aren’t kissing babies they are stealing the parents wallets.

Wan you have nothing to apologise for hate crimes. Under the veil of those many not so innocent laws passed . There be solely a directivel to stop freedom of speech to stop many from knowing the truth about a certain people.and what they are capable of.

You are welcome. It seemed to me that your agenda may have been political and that your were anti Desantis.

I live in Florida I we love Ron! That is why I was a little defensive. He has done a remarkable job while governor.

I know a lot of people on the site support Mr. Trump and in fact I voted for him.....twice. But Governor Desantis is Mr. Trump without all the baggage and tweets!

Uh, "to get to the other side?"

Jokes aside, the only reason politicians do anything is to get votes. Obviously, DeSantis is going where he is going and doing what he is doing because he feels it will help him in his bid for president. A better question is, why does DeSantis believe solidarity with Israel (as compared to solidarity with France, Germany, Brazil, etc) will aid his bid for president?

Hello forgiven and LearningToLetGo;

I can understand Ron DeSantis' zeal to go all the way as a presidential candidate after a great job he's done in Florida. But I feel he's still young enough to partner with Trump as the VP. Think about it. It would groom the young governor to run for office in 2028.

He is proven in Florida but is he qualified to lead the whole country of America? I don't feel he is there yet.

Hello
LearningToLetGo, Israel remains a close ally of the United States but it goes beyond for the Christian believer. To the political world it's a move for gain in the world stage.

God bless
you both.

i just am on the fence with trump Ron DeSantis' needs proceed with caution politics is a dirty game .he has been busting disney corps chops. i hate to say it they really need shut down with what they promote. its all about $$$$$$ power

I hear you, Pastor. It's a fact that Trump or DeSantis have their dispositions with their haters and supporters but I feel they got the job done.

I know they don't take the place of Jesus so their political office will never be perfect.

We're entitled to our testimony and vote of these officers and
that is why we live in this great country.

God bless you and your ministry.

To get the Jewish VOTE!

I agree 100%! Those of us who live here and see what he has done have just about all said exactly the same thing.

Then as for WHY he wanted water from Israel is simple.

Source: https://www.flgov.com/2023/04/27/governor

"Well, when you walk here in Israel, that vantage point changes because we’re talking about thousands of years, all the way back to the beginning of recorded history. History that the vast majority of Americans have familiarity with.

I can tell your story about my wife and I, actually it was her second trip with me to Israel. I was a US congressman at the time.

We did not yet have kids, and so one of the things that Casey (Wife) did when we were visiting the Sea of Galilee was to take up empty bottle of water and fill it up with water from the Sea of Galilee, so that when we did have kids, we would use that water from here in Israel to baptize our kids."

i know this will not sit right but i find absolutely no power in water our power is with in. me personally i find no spiritual power in Israel. i support them as they are God people in the natural . we are to pray for them. .i have no doubt the gov of Florida is trying to prove to the voters he can be a national leader. i have no doubt he can given the chance. its up to the voters we desperately need a change but dont be surprised the Republican' party shoots them self in the foot .they like to fight among themselves

I will only add that people… people like to argue amongst themselves, and the party that can best hold itself together and work together for a common goal will win the election.

Although it’s now the fashion to blame others for our own follies, the losers will have no one to blame but themselves.
