The Lord is peace, love, joy, long suffering etc
The merits of God are lived not pushed.
If God's merits don't live within us we try to manufacture our own. Politicians are often a good example of this, telling us how bad the other guy is to make themself look better.
What a facade.

Carnal human beings can never show, experience, or develop the characteristics of God. We have to be reborn as new creatures filled with God's Spirit to be able to have these qualities.
