It's very easy to see the moral failings in others...

... and quite difficult to see in ourselves.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:1-5 ESV)

Yes, how can you help someone else remove something from their life when you can't find or even see what needs to be removed from your own life? Not that you shouldn't help them in their time of need, but, you should not stick your nose into their life as if you are an authority when you should be asking for help yourself. ("You" here means any one of us.)

Wow! This was a conversation my wife and I just had last week. I'm not going to mention names but she was speaking to mwa.

At times we want to help others but as LearningToLetGo and Big Moose shared, we can go too far into their lives. We don't mean to but it happens and we have to know when to just be an encourager, not a scolder and back off.

God bless you, brothers.

I see it all the time in advertisements, news articles, op-eds or simply everyday talk. Everyone seems to know how other people should behave, yet no one asks if their own behavior is correct...

Then it hit me: That's me! I am no different. I, too, am blind to my own faults.

It is humbling...

Been there, done that! Tough position to be in when person A wants to talk about something that is bothering them, but doesn't really want solutions from person B, ends up person A just gets more upset. I lose more hair this way. Bless you too, brother.

Galatians 6:1-6

King James Version

6 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

the world loves to use

“Judge not, that you be not judged there are those out there no matter how hard you try simply does not want help. a woman i know was on facebook saying how bad she had it her husband doing kidney dialysis 3 times week wanting help. he is a vet it was suggested by me and other check with the va. ..that blew her up and she had a carnal melt down on facebook. i politely told her i wouldn't bother again.. she then said it felt like i was judging her .. rule of thumb never offer help to a drama queen

6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
Let him that is taught in the word = Christian brethren.
communicate = talk to

him that teacheth in all good things = The Holy Spirit, as he is the only one that can teach us ALL good things.

This is telling us to seek counsel from the Holy Spirit before we speak to our brother about his sin. Seeking forgiveness for our own sins and then how to help our brother with his . Just my opinion.

As we sometimes cannot see the planks in our own eye, I found a good way of finding them.
If I knew a person who had a particular failing, and it put me off them. I would think about their good points, and I soon found one that I did not have. I began to like them for their good points, and I would work in myself with prayer, to change my heart and help me achieve the good thing.
I find it a good way to shift the plank from my eye.
if we tell someone they should stop judging others, we have just judged then. Pray instead.
Pastors and elders are the ones to correct.
Just my weird way of thinking.

I don't think there is correlation between intelligence and morality. It seems many intelligent people are morally foolish.

For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” (1 Corinthians 3:19 ESV)

Good morning, Cosia;

Just so I understand, do you mean Pastors and Elders are the ones who need correction? Or, are Pastors and Elders the ones who need to correct others (in the Church?)

Either way, Pastors and Elders need correction at times. Their biggest priority are people. They're going to make a lot of mistakes. Problem is, they get criticized behind their backs instead of meeting with the Church leader one on one and pointing out their error. This is beneficial for the Pastor, Elder or Deacon besides praying for them.

On the other hand, a Pastor and Elder have a responsibility to correct a person besides praying for them when they visibly go astray from Biblical obedience or display immorality.

God bless you, sister.

Hi Bob,
I didn't word that very well. I meant that the Pastors and Elders are the ones who should correct others, especially the Pastor should correct.

I am sure somewhere in God's word that it says (apart from another Pastor,) we should not speak against the Pastor. It is not up to an ordinary Church member to correct a Pastor. Just my views on this. Pastors are ordained, if anyone is worried about them pray for them, perhaps ask advice from another Pastor.

God Bless

1 Timothy 5:17-20 (NLT)

17 Pastors who do their work well should be paid well and should be highly appreciated, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scriptures say, “Never tie up the mouth of an ox when it is treading out the grain—let him eat as he goes along!” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”

19 Don’t listen to complaints against the pastor unless there are two or three witnesses to accuse him. 20 If he has really sinned, then he should be rebuked in front of the whole church so that no one else will follow his example.

Easier said then done in many cases as Pastors do not hold the respect they once did.
There is a wind changing, and making it very hard to have people listen when a opposing side is pulling them back.

Hey LTLG I agree!
My brother had a philosophy degree and was always going on about wisdom…
I learned today my sister challenged him once after he had a spot on his chin and didn’t know what to do with it.
She told him to put some cream on it and shut up and he didn’t know what else to say haha

Hello Cosia;

Actually, you worded it well because I was able to share both sides in the Church.

God bless you, sister.

At this time, half the country (USA) thinks the other half are morally flawed. That is to say that each side thinks the other is flawed, all the while failing to see their own flaws.

To me, this is a case of not seeing the log in one's own eye.

As a nation and as a people we need to pray for clarity that only God can give.

Perhaps one day we can re-earn the mantle of Shining City upon the Hill.
