Liberalism Is Destroying The Church!

Outside the Catholic church... I briefly attended two fellowships ( in the span of 3 years )... before moving to where I am now.
Both churches have split.... and it was UGLY.

Both churches believed in the callings of prophets... apostles... evangelists.... with heavy emphasis on tongues... prophesy... and prosperity.

The first church I attended... the pastor died and appointed his brother to take over.... The church split after this occurred.
The second church split came yet again... after the pastor passed away and the wife wanted to take over.

Both instances... there was minimal biblical training/teaching.... simply people who were "prophesied over" and told to
start a church. Both fellowships had a heavy emphasis on BEING mentored by someone who claimed to have prophetic
giftings.

I did not know better at the time... and thankfully I moved before any damage was done.

I am taken back to something Major said somewhere in one of these conversations. It was a question/query/understanding.

Is it NOT our personal responsibility to ENSURE that we are receiving TRUTH? That statement demands we do our homework... our own
due diligence to research the history and beliefs of the churches/fellowships we are attending.

Another point is oversight and accountability.... If no one is accountable to a higher level of committee ( I don't know how to properly say this )...
I believe this is a very dangerous thing. We have seen SCANDAL explode like wildfire in this last decade due to this very thing.

I am in the process of trying to get a hold of a set of books by Dr. Vernon McGee ( Thru the Bible )... This is going to be a costly venture of which I need to save up... however... I am not comfortable going through scripture on my own for the purpose of study... and so.... I have been encouraged to use Dr. Vernon McGee's study notes.

It is the FORUMS that have prepared me for a time of STUDY. It is the trust in the forums and several pastors here that have encouraged me to dig deeper... and I am grateful for that.

WE never know what being KIND and PATIENT will do to someone who comes into these forums.

I am so thankful that these forums have collected some very wise and educated men who are willing to share their gift of teaching. I have benefited GREATLY from this. I am grateful for this.

take this for what it worth or if you want to accept it.. jay vernon mcgee is very good very plain and does not go over anyone's head... you can listen to him every day in bible study. yes he just a man .. but i do recommend him . this link to his bible study monday through friday. saturday is question and answer day.. sunday you can hear him preach. https://www.ttb.org/programs/the-5-year-study/study-contents

That is the set I'm looking for... I contacted a man I know who is a deacon at a church... He has tons of connections... so I am hoping he can find me a set. I will start there.
*Edit.... I am trying to find a set in CANADA because it's very expensive to ship here from USA.

I bought my set through Amazon USA. They are still kind of expensive but worth it. They're 85 USD on Amazon for all 5 volumes.

My daughter has AMAZON Prime... so that will be my last resort... I am just trying to be FRUGAL... and start with attempting to buy a used set that is in good condition. Here in Canada... I think a brand new set on Amazon Canada site... it is 272.00. I don't have that off hand. HA.
I don't mind doing my homework and being patient... This will definitely be an investment.

Good morning, forgiven, LearningToLetGo, and BibleLover;

It's amazing that Dr. McGee's sermons are syndicated after all these years. I started listening to the Good Reverend on AM radio back in 1998.

Beside him being a calm and thoughtful man, Dr. McGee also has a sense of humor. 😇

Anyway, forgiven, your recommendation is a good one!

Here are some examples of J. Vernon McGee’s wisdom that many have copied over the years:

yes i have them.. they are word for word what you hear taught on the net he dont like the hippy movement lol and he is anti women preachers .. if he was alive today just think what he would say

The best buy is to get the USB from back to the bible, as on that flash drive are the 5 volume commentary set and many other articles and sermons

And think what really has been a harmful wedge into the loical churches was when the limited inspiration view on bible was taught into seminaries and then into the pulpits, as that view opened up the flood gates for evolution, alternate lifestyles, emergent theology, etc

Even though I am a Reformed Baptist holding to more Covenant Theology then His Dispy view, have learned a lot from listening to his 5 years bible bus on radio all these years
